Just got into this last week with Legio and had a lot of fun with it. Kind of reminds me of a cross between Guild Ball and Monsterpocalypse. Quite liking it as a quick brawl to fit in between other games.
Does anyone have any suggestions for which Gladitors are good splashes into Legio? There are a lot of fairly generic archtypes, but I'm curious if its worth taking any of the more unique tricks like Zahra or Micon. Any lacking abilities in Legio that are worth pulling from other schools?

Some news
GenCon can't get here fast enough! Here is a preview of the Tribune's stat card. He is one of the new minis we are releasing this week at our booth and the first Ludus Magnus gladiator to be released since our KS campaign. The other factions had some catching up to do with respect to the number of minis available. As things leveled out a bit we knew it was time to give some more love to the classical roman style.
and Leika was released back in May

I feel like Tribune's card has been known for ages, but he's still a really interesting piece. Curious to see his model.

Sadly they've felt the need to post that the fasces round the axe doesn't mean they support the alt-right and that the figure has been in development for a while
(but I guess with the active kerfuffle around Reaper and their employee it's probably a sensible move)

With something so historically based, I don't think that was really necessary, since probably most people who recognize that origin, and recognize it on the model, and are interested in pseudo-historical fantasy would recognize that it has nothing to do with modern fascism.
In other news, I'm not very impressed with the model. IDK, maybe it's the sizes of the helmet and axe shaft, but something looks kind of awkward about the mini's shape/scale. Are the knees too low?

Or is the head/helmet too large/off scale?
You're right though - something seems off...

The head looks too big because he's basically wearing a second, larger head over top of his normal sized one. It's probably technically correct, but we're accustomed to basically just painting a normal face metallic.

I think that's definitely a part of it, but there's something awkward about his proportions. Look at his elbows and knees...

Red Republic Games are US based (Austin, Texas)

Unless your looking for a discounter which I'm not sure of and I notice Firestorm aren't selling with any discounts given RRG are a small company making resin minis discounts may not be possible for them.

Atrox should be released in January. We had planned to release the tiger at the start of November but it was held up in customs due to documentation issues, then he was lost by FedEx for a month. Thankfully he was found and is now at the caster
We'll have a new character that unlocks a third sub-faction soon after. Adepticon may see the first Helleniki mini, while Gen Con will see the release of many more.
Our release schedule will be a little funky until the Greeks come out. But the original factions should each be getting some love after Gen Con.

Hey all, pretty big thread necro but I figure it's not a bad place to do it! Just getting into the game (I think my group is the first in the country to do it) with the Helleniki and really looking forward to playing. That said, does anyone have any advice as to playing Helleniki? Looking at starting off with 2-4 man battles before going the full 6, and so I was thinking of scaling it up as follows:
2 man- Theophania and Archidamos. This is because Archie looks like a pretty simple blunt object, and I love the sculpt for Theophania
3 man- Add Antaeus. Board control and wrestling to help out with hazards
4 man- Argos. Shieldwall and Phalanx to have a fighting block with the other 3
Would anyone recommend swapping the order of these? I don't currently own Dimitrios or Telesto as I wasn't as fussed on them, but can proxy with other things if need be (Knight Models mounted and foot Wonder Woman seems appropriate enough)

I wouldn't stress about it too much. It's a pretty low variance game in terms of what you bring to the table. I would recommend focusing on your beatstick options at lower figure counts and adding tech as you size up. To that end, I think you've got the right idea as Theo and Archie look like the primary brawlers for the Greeks.
Also, generally speaking, 4 man is really kind of the minimum size to feel the fatigue system work correctly. Once you get your feat wet you can probably fully jump in pretty quickly. Adding models doesn't really complicate the game beyond just making your decisions on who to activate a little harder.

The rules actually aren't all that difficult to get your head around, but the fatigue system is really important. So like LunarSol said, you might actually want to start at games around 4 fighters a side, then scale up. I think 5-6 fighters is the sweet spot since the game is really, really bloody. It really only takes 1-2 good hits to bring a fighter down. Also looking at your faction benefits can give you an idea of a faction plays (Ludux Magnus, for example, like to earn and spend a lot of Favor, which their Flourish and Circus Maximus passives help with). From what I can tell: Helleniki like to be in contact with each other (Ekstasis), and you can then use this better ATK/DEF benefit to take a little damage with Hubris to earn and use Favor. And you can use Heroic Challenge to pull weakened or critical fighters out of position.

So I played my first game yesterday (closely followed by second and third) and I love it! Easily one of my favourite games, just how quick and brutal it is really sold me on it. We made a few rules mistakes and I slipped up on some plays (splitting off Helleniki was dumb) but the game overall is really smooth. My painting desk has had almost everything shoved to the side now (apart from a couple things on final highlights) so that I can crack into my Helleniki ASAP, because I really picked up the mojo to paint them. Also ordered Dimitrios yesterday, so I'm only a Telesto off having all 6 Helleniki

Well and truly into it now, I really do love this game. Worked out a lot of the intricacies in rules now and our games are very tense, it seems like the game can be decided on any dice roll (and indeed it was in my last game). Finished up Argos, Theophania and Archidamos this week, with Antaeus soon to follow, and even the sculpts are nothing short of amazing. Just waiting on my order for Dimitrios to arrive and we'll be scaling up to 5 man cohorts, while I'm already eyeing off an order for Telesto (and a sneaky little Morituri cohort)

Looking good! Overall like the look of the Greeks, but I'm trying to avoid faction bloat with the skirmish stuff these days.

It's definitely an issue, as you can see in my sig. I'm already looking at Morituri as a second cohort both from a gameplay and modelling perspective, but kind of holding out to hear if there's any plans on the Persians in the future (and for more Helleniki obviously)

Hi all, I've decided this week to get to writing up some things for Arena Rex, starting with a run down of the game in general for those who might be newer/looking at starting. Going to get into overviews of characters and the cohort benefits soon, in a similar format to what I already do for Batman Miniatures.
