This has been up for awhile I think, but I haven't seen anyone post it here and thought you guys might be interested. I know I was. Anyway, the Urban War rules are now available for free from Urban Mammoth's website. They've got stat cards and Urban War magazine issues 0-4. I think the magazine/rulebook format is pretty interesting, and I loves me some Urban War minis. There's also a new game coming out called Metropolis, that from what I have read is basically a larger unit version of Urban War - i.e. instead of a skirmish game it's more like 40k with whole squads of soldiers instead of a single warband. Link: http://www.urbanmammoth.com/ It's all in the downloads section. Enjoy!

Agreed. In fact, unless there is some significant rules changes from UW, I don't know how it couldn't just be VOID with new units.

I d/l'd the old Void 1.0 rules a while back...they seemed pretty good actually, but I never got around to playtesting them.
Does anyone who has actually played Void have any comments about the ruleset and gameplay?

It plays a lot like 40K, with the following differences - play alternates between units, not armies
- "reactive" options that resemble the old Overwatch rules
- no long wargear options, or generic HQ heroes. More like special characters instead with little to no modifiers available
- Units have to be of a certain size to gain special weapon options, sort of like "one heavy weapon for every four marines" rather than per unit
- uses a d10 rather than d6

Hmmm, interesting...now if only the minis were a little cooler (although those "Eco-Warrior" dudes would make great IG Stormtroopers!).

Yeah, I downloaded UW a little while ago. Maybe I'll even get to play!

I think the lesson here is the best way to enjoy GW's games is to not use any of their rules.--Crimson Devil |

The thing I like about Urban War is that it just seems really easily accessible. I mean, the boxed sets are a relatively good deal (with metal minis), and since it's a skirmish game the model count is really low. It seems like it would be an awesome beer and pretzels game - something I could even play in the dorm!

I always liked the Junkers with their Rome by way of Mad Max style. They also had dune buggies and quads. Not so into some of the UW Junker stuff, but then not all the old Junker stuff was great either. The plastics were good though.

Didn't that change from Void? IIRC Void was Igo-Ugo like 40K and that's what kept me from looking into Void. I've always liked this sort of turn sequence better, so maybe I'll give it a go.

Metropolis is a squad-level expansion of Urban War, which is a skirmish-level re-imagining of the squad-level Void. There are IP similarities but they are distinct games. To avoid confusion between the two, the rights to Void were passed to Scotia Grendel last year: 1. Void (i-Kore) 2. Void (Urban Mammoth) + Urban War (Urban Mammoth) 3. Void (Scotia Grendel) + Urban War (Urban Mammoth) + Metropolis (Urban Mammoth)

No, Void always had this. It makes for a really tense game as you have to carefully choose which unit to move/fire first, unactivated enemy units could react fire to your actions. (defensive fire)
Another feature I really liked was a "doctine" for Sgts & heavy weapons that let them shoot at other targets than the rest of the squad.

Special weapons get to pick out different targets, alternating squad activation, overwatch, and so on. if you liked that about Void, wait until March and take a peak at the full AT-43 rules, and I think you'll like what you see.
