Huh. Wow.

It looks like there is no terminator assault cannon on the sprue afterall.

Though, I swore I saw some new DW gubbins on warseer.

$250+ for that....words escape me.

Is the price somewhat right? (always a pain to calculate with foreign currencies) Or is it, dare i say, a rip-off?

Other than that: hurray, another space marine box!

(But honestly, the Terminators are always cool in my opinion...)

Edit: looking at the picture, I don't think dress wearing Devestators fit my taste of style...at all.

I wonder if this means that DA assault termie squads won't have to have the idiot sergeant with a bolter and power weapon like they did in the 3rd ed. rules.

Adding it up with the DA Sprues (10 marines) at the same price as the current Tactical box, the Librarian at the same price as the current Librarian, the cost of a current metal Commander, and assuming the vehicle upgrade sprue is the same price as the BT one, it comes to $128.

It's fairly safe to assume that the DA Marines will actually be more expensive than a regular Tactical Squad, and that the new Librarians will be more expensive than the current ones... so it seems to be priced pretty standard for the Army 'Deals' which are always simply a bundle with a Ltd model rather than representing any real saving.

It's 11 new DA models... 1 metal Ltd Ed Commander, and the 10 plastic guys from the DA Upgrade sprue.

No, that would be 1 metal ed commander and 1 new sprue.....

personally the librarian is new either.

I really really dont think its worth it. Assuming all the robed guys are the new ones in plastic, it just doesnt seem worth while. And I really like DA...

Anyone know why the NEW DA were removed from Alliance? I had some preorders through them and now... they seem to have evaporated...

I dunno it seems interesting; the new models look nice... But way too over priced maybe $135 CDN would be better.

£135.00?!? 135 British Pounds Sterling, for, what, 32 guys and a razorback? Wha?

Moopy, it'd be funny if the reason Alliance pulled it was to "update" the price (to something higher). Which would be typical GW.

5 HTH terminators, 5 scouts, preadtor, 15 troops, 5 man dev squad thats not really coherent, and 2 new metal figures.

Not. Worth. Even. Half. The. Price.

Not worth it.

I already have 4000 point of Dark Angels, so I'll just be adding a couple characters this time around, so I'll give it a miss.

I haven't priced it out, but at least it's a solid core of useful models.

Edit: My bad: It's actually 2 sprues of 5.

So 6 specific Dark Angel models, rather than 11. But still more than 2

Never really understand the point of big army deals if NO savings are involved.

I think for many people it's "getting the models and codex first and fast."

Never really understand the point of big army deals if NO savings are involved.

Because GW target audience for such a deal is unable to understand the trick.

It's like "A deal! They say it's a deal! Woah!" and they buy it straight. I guess they fall for those stupid "Save BIG" TV ads too.

Actually, this army deal is a steal.

sure thing but one month at best earlier and since i doubt someone will paint that quantity of models in one month no need to have all minis so fast. but thats just me.

Painting's got nothing to do with it. Nor is the actual time span that important. For some people, it's just the thrill of having something before everyone else.

Plus there's the Ltd Edition model, which is a bit of a drawcard. They're sometimes not very good, but being limited is enough to make people want one (and really, the Army Box models and Centurius are the only real Limited Eds that GW seem to do these days. The others all seem to get re-released at some point)... and if the only way to get one is to buy the army box, that's what they'll do.

Perception (just like the value for minis type posts).

Why do people rush the vendor rooms at cons even though some releases don't come with
limited editions? The perception that they're "ahead".

$270-ish value for $210 (so $160-ish if bought online). Not too bad really, if that is indeed the price. If I still lived in the UK I would order it from the states though.

so what are we saying... errr who buys these deals are not the people who whants to save money on such huge package, not the people who wants to paint/built a army, just the people who wants to be at the frontline of a strange freaky race for... a thrill?

That's about it, yeah. The people who are serious about building an army generally want a little more control over what units they get... or are prepared to wait for the battleforce/megaforce, which will have a more substantial saving.

Posted By NAVARRO on 01/07/2007 12:44 PM
and since GW continues to insist on these deals its because the majority of costumers are like that?
Definitely not the majority. The Army boxes are only released in limited quantities, and quite often stores get stuck with leftovers that sit on the shelf for the next couple of years.

The trick about waiting for the fig on Ebay is that it could end up costing a disproportionate amount when compared to the army as a whole. I've been thinking of putting together a DA force for a bit now, as they were my first army years and years ago and I don't have the prerequisite Marine army at the moment. If I could find this set for about $160 I'd probably consider it, since I need much of that stuff in the long run, even if it's not neccassarily in the order I would have bought them. Full retail though? Not a chance.

There is an assault cannon on the sprue. It has feathers on it. Since DW squads can only take 1 heavy weapon, its all you will need.

The REAL deal for Space Marines is the Megaforce. I think its like 250 dollars for 175....
