I really like what I've done with this model. I was a little bit worried when I started painting it, I was not sure how I would paint it and what it would look like in the end !

That paintjob is excellent, the purple metal areas play off really well against the mutant skin.

Congratulations on Eden giving your work official support! I'll be keeping an eye out for that kickstarter! Might be time to start playing Eden!

Thanks a lot for your support guys !
I tried to take all the best from Eden, and to add loads of fun in it. I hope people will like it and it'll be a success. It also makes the game easier for beginners, since I've made a lot of demo games I think it's an important point.

Regarding Masakh, I think I've never used so many layers on a miniature's skin ever ! And you know what ? I didn't get bored or so, in fact I loved it. Well, a friend asked me a photo with standard sized models nearby to see how big it is. It's big like that :

Whoa! He's a lot bigger than I thought, I think I'll have to pick Eden up when the kickstarter comes out. Will they have discounts on the stuff that's already available as well as the new stuff?

Yep, he's quite big. He's even bigger than other Askari mutants. Here's an in-game photo from yesterday's Burn Out playtest :

During the previous Eden KS campaigns, it was possible to buy current stuff with a discount, I guess it will be the same this time. I'm not in charge of the KS itself, I "only" make the game rules, so I at this point I don't know exactly what the prices will be.
As soon as I know more I'll tell you.

One of the new aspects that Burn Out brings to Eden - but it's only a part of the whole thing - is the possibility ton play on terrain heavy tables.
Since I've recently bought a 3D printer, I had the perfect excuse for printing lots of stuff and I made a Laboratory table, both for playtesting and demo games.

All the photos on my blog : http://code660066.blogspot.fr/2017/02/decor-le-laboratoire.html

And a top view of the whole terrain :

Yes please let me know, it sounds very interesting and could be a good opportunity to get involved. Are most of the players in France?

I love terrain. I love dense, realistic terrain. I love that terrain. It actually makes Eden more appealing to me if it plays well in this sort of terrain. What was the inspiration? I'm guessing Portal?

Having a 3D printer must be brilliant, endless possibilities. Is it expensive to run?

No problem !

 Casey's Law wrote:

Indeed. The reason is quite simple : it's a french game. The Happy Factory team is based in France, thus it's easier for them to developp a french community. They can more easily attend to events in Paris, Lille or Lyon than in foreign countries.
That being said, there are players at least in Germany, in Australia, in the US and in the UK. The team was in Chicago for Adepticon last week, I know they went to Essen in Germany, and I think they come back to Salute in London in April.

I love terrain too.
I found inspiration in lots of sci-fi movies. First of all, I need to say that I did not create all the 3D models I used, I found almost everything on Thingiverse. I wanted something that looked high-tech, a bit weathered but not too much, in order to change from the piles of rusted crap I usually do. The idea was to make a part of a subterranean base, like the ISC or Askari laboratories. I went for a light grey because it sounds "lab" to me. I added red stripes because I was reading a Simon Stalenhag artbook and found a great illustration of a grey and red machine and it inspired me.
I also tried to keep it simple, so that the scenery reveals the miniatures when we play on it, and does not overwhelm them.

Btw, if you don't know Simon Stalenhag, google him. I LOVE his work. Here's a sample :

 Casey's Law wrote:

That's the point. You can do almost anything you want. There are tons of files available on the internet. And if it's not enough, I can create my own models.
As for the price, the printer itself I use costs 300 euros. The plastic spools cost around 25 euros for 750g, for the whole table I used 3 spools. It's not really cheap, but it's reasonnable. Where it becomes financially really interesting, is for smaller terrain pieces, or little accessories.
For example, I also made this :

And a friend created a truck for W40k. I printed it, and I finished painting it yesterday. I'll take pics !

Thanks for pointing me to Simon Stalenhag, that's some brilliant work, very inspirational.

That's some really lovely scatter terrain you've got yourself there and well worth the cost of materials I reckon. Great paint jobs too!

I've got some experience with 3D modelling so I'd love to get my hands on a printer for a while.

If you can do 3D models... then you could do almost anything with a 3D printer.

Remember that I talked about an upcoming 3D printed project ? Time has come to reveal it !
A friend of mine wanted to create his own truck design for 40k. Seeing me posting 3D printed stuff got him motivated enough to finally make it. The project took us quite a long time, and you can see the progress on my blog : http://code660066.blogspot.fr/2017/04/40k-le-porte-container.html

Hi Gits !
The first idea of my friend was to make a truck that would pull a trailer mad of another armored truck. The design evolved until this, with a cab on the rear of the vehicle. But it's more an attached defensive bunker (my friend will add turrets) than a driving cab.
The exception is this version where we glue the two cabs together, and it makes some sort of tunnel vehicle. And this one is a push-pull concept. ^^

Ok, and for today, one more Askari. This is an alternative sculpt for the Defender. A friend challenged me to paint one Eden model a week, here's the first one.

Checking out the kickstarter now! It looks great.

The NMM on the Defender's legs is awesome, mate, so rich! You must be a pigmentomancer, it's the only explanation.

The truck is really nice too, one of the big bits companies released one recently but the scale is tiny, yours looks much better. If you ever have a crazy idea and not enough time then I'd love to have a crack at doing a 3D model for printing, just let me know, haha.

Hi Casey !
I really need to find times to see what you all have painted lately, I've been really busy and I'm sure Gitsplitta has posted a crap ton of photos and reached 40k pages on his blog...

Btw thanks for stopping by. ^^

 Casey's Law wrote:

Great !
The kickstarter was funded in less than an hour. It's crazy ! At first I created this game mode for my friends and I, that's less than 10 people. Today more than 500 people have pledged ! I'm... wow, it's fantastic, I'm so happy.

 Casey's Law wrote:

I'm a cheater. It's not NMM, it's TMP. I've always prefered TMP paintings, but I feel like people underestimate it. It's a bit like TMP is drybrush, wash, done, while NMM is the noble side of metal paintings. I try to get a lot of various results on a TMP base, and I really like the process.
For the defender legs, I made a tutorial, it's french (as always) but you can see the images for each step. And I can summarize it in english if you're interested. Right here :

If you remember who made a truck, I'm curious to see. ^^
The advantage with 3D printing is that I can easily change scale if I ever feel the need.

And I have tons of ideas for things to print. Lately I've been thinking about making a fair themed table for the Jokers. Like a big-wheel, a carousel, a circus tent and so on. But to be honest, if you model anything that looks cool, I'd love to print it.

And for today, the second painting for the One mini = One week challenge with my friend. It's a limited edition black panther for my beloved Askaris : http://code660066.blogspot.fr/2017/04/eden-peinture-de-panthera.html

Amazing work all round, too many favourites to pick one, all looking stunning as we expect, but you are managing somehow to take it up a notch, the NNM, the fabrics, that cat, you have cemented yourself at the top of the game bud, stunning.

Yeh TMM/TMP is what I meant to say. Most people just apply metallic paints straight out of the bottle, gold for gold, silver for silver, etc. TMM is a huge step up and just a wonderful as NMM in a lot of situations. I think the popularity of NMM makes people think all or nothing but TMM is a really good step between the two and you are proof that it's a skill well worth learning.

Ooh, might just have to dust of the cobwebs and have a play about with some 3D modelling software and see what I can come up with!

The painted fur texture on that panther is phenomenal and what a lovely model it is too! I love the angle of the base.

P.S. I checked and the badly scaled truck is from Puppetswar. Here it is with someone's Infinity miniatures, you can see how tiny the door in particular is.

I do'nt know if I reached the top (I hope not, I'd like to progress more and more) but I'm developping my style and that's maybe what I prefer in the whole process.

Anyway I love painting skirmish warbands, because the low models count allows me to spend much more time and effort into it.

CommissarKhaine wrote:That cat looks amazing! And forgive my ignorance, but what does TMP stand for?

TMP means True Metal Painting, it's the opposite on NMM (Non Metallic Metal). When doing TMP, you use silver, gold and so on paints with metallic pigments in them.
But I paint my metals using TMP paints but also NMM technics, I mix them both. Just because.

Casey's Law wrote:Yeh TMM/TMP is what I meant to say. That's exactly my point.
Painting nice TMM is not so easy and it's really interesting to do. But it's often underestimated. Personnaly, I love how TMP look and reflect the light when I hold the miniatures in my hands.

Ok, for today I have a new Eden terrain set. These are not for me, a player asked me if I could make him 8 sceneries for a standard gaming table. I knew he planned to put them on a mat with a road, so he wanted only things that wouldn't lookk out of place if placed on the road. Thus, no buildings or so.
