I just put the finishing touches on a Fire Prism while watching The Thing by John Carpenter.  It's a great flick and that is more or less how I prefer to paint, with a mug of coffee and a good movie or music in the background.  I find that its best to watch movies I've already seen so I don't need to really pay attention, but I've definitely found that there are certain movies that improve the painting experience.  Here are a few of my favorites...

Robocop
Lord of the Rings
Zombie Movies in general
Star Wars
A Bridge Too Far
Band of Brothers
Battlestar Gallactica
Die Hard

These movies seem to share a few themes.
1. Lots of action
2. Relatively straightforward plotlines
3. Supernatural/Sci-Fi/Fantasy/Wartime setting
4. Excellent special effects
5. Tension and Iconic scenes

Anyhow,my goal for this thread would be for all of you to share some of your favorite painting movies and explain why you like them and how watching the movie improves the painting experience.

Nah. Anything with good commentary (I like Babylon 5 for this since they
just goof off, or Big Trouble in Little China), or a voice over (Rounders).

I've been going through the documentary section of the local independent video/dvd rental place recently. I'm a big doc fan anyways, but they're great for painting since most are more about the talking rather than the picture anyways. Standup comics are good too, though it's hard to find ones who are actually funny..

Recent ones:

Guerilla: the Patty Hearst Story
Fog of War
Loose Change
The Weater Underground
Bill Hick's standup

The girlfriend is a Jane Austen fan; 6 video tapes and a lot of "yes dear"s later, I had finished up a huge block of painting. So if you're going for production rather tahn enjoyment, well, I don't think that you can do any better

1. Boondock Saints (which is good for ANY occasion)
2. Chronicles of Riddick (which is a good 40K feel)
3. Conan (the Barbarian, not the Destroyer....because its so much "darker"
4. AVP (more good 40K feel)
5. Predator (goes without saying)
6. The Matrix (cant beat the action)
7. Underworld (both the first and second movies, for the obvious action reasons and who dosent want to look at Kate Beckinsale for a couple hours in tight black leather)

Thats my list....I could go on but those are probably all atleast in my top 10, off the top of my head.

Not to get to far off topic but this post brings back the feeling after watching the cinematic at the start of Dawn of War....that GW should do a full movie like that.  I mean how kick ass was that first cinematic, I must have watched it a dozen times or more.  It was so well done and I think that if they did a full length movie it could be amazing.
