Yesterday I took a brief glance at the 40k GT rules. Though most every army conceivable is legal including Armored company from WD ???. I found it strange that the point level has dropped to 1750. I don't know the reasoning behind this, but find it disturbing that everyone I know including posters here and on other sites base their armies on 1850. Will this point change (other than GTs) affect your army points? RB

I believe Jeff hinted that some GTs will have higher points limits, and my guess is that those will allow additional 250 pt blocks in some games. So 1750 just works better. Personally, I'm fine with it, as it's fewer models for me to paint. Although I have a sneaking suspicion that Baltimore will have the extra 250 pt blocks anyway.

I find the game is more interesting with somewhat smaller armies as there is more space to maneuver and plan. This would be doubly true given the sparseness of terrain at most tournies.
This particular change likely won't effect my typical army sizes though (500, 1000, 1500, 2000).

i dislike the points change a lot. considering over a year ago when i started working and building my newest armies it was based around the points in gt's.
i know i can re-arange my lists but it means buying more miniatures to fit in with the new list. it also means re-learning the new lists' weaknesses and strengths. which i've been working on with the armies i have now for over a year.
one good thing though tank companies can be used. i've been dieing to use my 9 leman russ list. although with the points change i could take away a tank or two and add a few basilisks. mmmmmmmmmmm......

well i havn't played a GT in years since they downscaled the US ones but i can say the points drops would be brutal for my deathwing and ravenwing in thier current incarnation. i build everything now to fill the 1850 tournament list because thats what our RTTs always are

I am all for the change and I actually wish they'd return to 1,500 points in the USGTs.
I personally believe it encourages players to take more horde armies to tournaments, something that is not encouraged with 1,500 points where completing a game with a horde army is difficult for non-veteran gamers.

Yak,
You mean...less horde army's at 1850 because of too many models and too little time, vice 1500 where its a little bit more manageable, right?

yak i see that as an arrogant attempt to make people play your way and not the way they like to play, especially for those of us who do not like horde armies.

It's not a big deal. In most cases the drop in points is just one unit for most armies.
I don't see much point in it myself but whatever, heh. It will cause at least some change in the lists that most have become comfortable playing and that may have some small impact on the higher level competition.

It's not a huge deal. 1500 would have been nice, if only because 1850 has been the standard so long in the US. And 1500 requires aging your cheese a who different way than 1850. I'm doing fantasy for this GT season though, and 2000 is ideally suited to the army I wish to field (Brets).

I respectfully disagree Yak. A good horde player can finish within the time period of a GT. I know a comrade intends to bring his 8 Gazillion Feral Orks to the Vegas GT, reduced from 1850 only by a few models. I don't think 1750 from 1850 is that major a deal, but a drop to 1500 begins to shift the balance of favor. The smaller the game, the easier it is for min/maxed MEQs who can meet their minimum requirements easily in the TAC squad department, vs. say troopy guard.

My horde conscript guard should be ready in time for the Baltimore GT, so Im very apathetic to the change, since I have yet to play a GT, and this will be my first

I think yak was trying to say that a GOOD horrde player can do it, but any "non-veteran" would find it hampering. I also think he meant to say "1850" in his second sentence instead of repeating "1500." Please correct me if I'm wrong though yakface.
I have to weigh in on the side of the 1500 point game myself. This point value seems to be the most balanced for the armies in my experience.

Apparently no one in the UK has figured that out as IG are one of those rare armies at the 1500 point heats.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby. |

I would have rather seen a move to 2000 points for 40k but I cannot complain with the GT circuit this year.

marine heavy weapons are cheaper. 5 men tac squads with heavy weapons will outgun their IG equivalents.

Make a 1700 point list and play 5 games of 40K. Deal with it. The good players will win,and the bad players will lose, and it will not matter if it was 1500, 1750, 1850, or 2000 points.
