TALISMAN, THE LEGENDARY FANTASY BOARD GAME, IS BACK! Black Industries are very excited to announce the launch of a brand new edition of Talisman. Releasing in October 2007, the classic Talisman game is back and it’s better than ever! Talisman is a cult fantasy board game for 2 – 6 people. Players control a myriad of characters from a heroic warrior to a powerful sorcerer. In this perilous adventure, play centres around the journey of these gallant heroes to find and claim the Crown of Command, a magical artefact with the power to destroy all rivals and make the bearer the true ruler of the kingdom. Only with strength, courage, and wisdom will players be able to survive the ultimate test and beat their opponents to victory. Talisman’s enduring appeal is that of a traditional fantasy boardgame and more. Players soon find themselves taking part in an epic quest of brave deeds, daring encounters and death defying battles, which deepens as the game unfolds. First released in 1983, the game continues to excite and maintains a strong following with a thriving Internet community. The new edition of Talisman will appeal to fans of the timeless original, and will also create a new following of would be adventurers. Marc Gascoigne, Head of Black Industries, said, “This is the best edition of Talisman we have ever produced. It’s the return of a genuine classic fantasy game, and I’m proud to be announcing its comeback. The gameplay is based on the very best aspects of the previous editions, but with added extras such as the all new speedy play rules written by the legendary Rick Priestley. The game looks fantastic, with fabulous new artwork. I know fans old and new will love this edition.” If you want to know more about the release of this long awaited new edition then visit www.blackindustries.com or e-mail enquiries@blpublishing.com for more information. I was wondering when they were going to rerelease Talisman. Wasn't it a case of they had to re-publish it every X years or risk losing the lisence? BYE

I think they really botched the job on this one by letting it fade. There was an obvious hole in the market for this type of game that Runebound and Descent have filled very well. Both are fun games and I highly recomend them. While I'm glad to hear this, it's kinda like seeing a new film from a movie star past his prime.

Heh. Talisman was already past its prime when 3rd edition came out, from what I've heard. Still, some classic can't be kept down. I still like an odd game of Cosmic Encounter, and how long's it been since that was first released?

Interesting. Very interesting.
I loved Talisman first time around, but haven't played it in over a decade because it takes more time then I and my friends have available. "Quick play" rules sound enticing though!

Now, are they going to release the expansion boards and characters?
Thats what I always enjoyed. THe basic board is fun, but the corners just add so much more. I wish GW had released them a couple of years ago when they made the short run of Talisman that they did.

The only thing I ever heard about Talisman was that it was totally sweet and awesome. Going by that limited information, this seems like very good news. I hope it lives up to the hype.

I loved Talisman back in the early 90's... when I could stay awake all night and still function the next day. Some of those games took forever... worse than Risk.

I highly suggest picking up Runebound to see if you like what they do. The story line evolves through the game as well, making for interesting turns of events. In a similar vein, the same company makes Arkam Horror, and we're enjoying the bejesus outta that one.

Talisman on the other hand is fun but realy not half as fun as with the expansions. I loved being the Archamage.

Nah, I liked it actually. I just went for the throat because I could sense Jester close by. Talisman was a fun game that you could enjoy after a single investment and keep going for cheaply. But Gorkamorka still owns my heart. No one laugh or you're all banned. *growls*

This is very interesting news! I'm curious to see how it stacks up to the past edition. That's the only one I've ever played - and still own, both the core game and all the expansions! Have a few of the WD Talisman characters as well. I have all my Warhammer Quest stuff too, that was pretty cool. They need to re-release that, update it a bit. Same with Gorkamorka!

Wide variety of characters, simple stats, lots of different encounters, and you randomly chose the ancient evil that stiring... Game is easier with more players but it always keeps you on your toes.

A first edition of Talisman (originally my father's) is one of the treasured ancient games loitering in the cupboards of my house since the mid 80s, along with Mystic Wood and Sorceror's Cave. They sure knew how to write titles back then... I'm looking forwards to this.
Is Descent really good? The look (ie Warhammer Quest) is good but the enormous price tag keeps putting me off...

I've still got the old 80's version, with all of the expansions except Dragons. Very simple to play, and lots of interesting variety in monsters and things to encounter. It can tend to get a bit long and interminable with a large number of players or if everyone is trying to get their characters tough enough to handle the Plane of Fire with good odds before making their run for the win. I agree that it's a lot more interesting with the expansion boards- Dungeon, City, and possibly Timescape (though the Astropath on the Timescape board is utterly broken).
The old art was one of the game's strongest components. Nothing grabbed my imagination in the 80s quite the way old-school GW art did.
Holy Mecha- Descent is quite a good game. Much more challenging for the players than Heroquest, Advanced Heroquest, or Warhammer Quest. And an even high level of production values, with very cool minis, very nice counters, cards, and dungeon sections. Takes a full evening to play, pretty much, but it's a heck of a good time.
Another great one to get non-gamers into is Betrayal at House on Haunted Hill. This is a really excellent horror movie game, in which one of the players (at random) inevitably turns against the rest, but the exact plot and victory conditions change from game to game, and the victory conditions for each side are secret from the other. Really, really good.

I have the second-ed version with all of the expansions, at the time i even bought around 50 or 60 of the metal miniatures that went with it....for painting more than playing i suppose. The only thing wrong with Talisman, is that it used to take a lifetime to play sometimes with several players....but it is a great game, a classic. This can only be good news Ghaz.

Descent is a great game, very fun, but it is a hard sell to non-gamers. Plus it is one player versus many.
Arkham Horror is a fun game once you get you brain around the rules. The great thing about this game is that you play cooperatively, so if you only have two players your not fighting against each other, this is important if you are playing with your wife/girlfriend.
Betrayal at house on haunted hill, is quite possibly the best party game ever. the best thing about this game is that the villain is not reviled until midway through the game. I have played this game with non gamers to much success.
