Brotherhood of Blood

Played in a RTT over the weekend and the overall competition was great.  Let me say before hand that my intent in playing in the RT was to see how my painted GK's would do in the painting category I have previously won three overalls and winning was secondary.  I still went 2-1.

My List at 2000pts

1 Grandmaster Psycannon and hammerhand

3 squads of 6 GK's with 2 Psycannons each

2 Squads of 5 terminators with 2 Psycannons each

1 Land raider Crusader and 1 Landraider both with Stormbolter upgrades.

My first match was against a World Eater army

1 Blood thirster

1 Daemon prince

4 squads of 8 berserkers two with fists, one with chain axe, one with chains for summoning a thirster.

1 Landraider

1 predator destructer and 1 annihilator equivalent.

I basically deployed as far back as possible with fire lanes.  I concentrated fire on one Zerker squad at a time and wiped him down to two functional units the first two turns.  His first two he summons his Thirster and finds the range to charge my Crusader which is pulverized.  My next turn I shoot then charge the Thirster with terminators and bring it down  and shoot down more zerkers. At this point in the game I would say I definatley had the upper hand but in turn four I made the critical mistake that cost me the game.  Instead of pulling back and shooting for another round and withstanding his Daemon prince charge  I lost it and charged his last three Bloodletters who I all but wiped out in the shooting phase.  I wiped his Letters out and preceded to sweep into his prince with my Grandmaster and a squad of terminators.  This then allowed his remnant Zerker squads to make it into combat.  If I would have stood by my mantra of patience and shootiness I belive the outcome would have been a lot different.  My opponent Dave even stated at the end of the game that he was shocked that I charged in.  Great game overall and after speaking with Dave found out he also has won around three or four RTT's himself.  Out of time but will try and give an overview of my next two matches later.

On second thought I don't think I'll post the other two match ups because I won those decidedly. Great games with great people and I found it refreshing to play against others outside my area and really enjoyed the competition. Dave my first opponent won best sportmanship. As it was a RTT and a win was worth 15 pts with objective modifiers massacres really didn't matter as much which I thought was great because that made it possible for the Necrons to take overall as the Cron player won all his match ups. (Swell guy also). I don't recall who best Army comp went to so if he reads this I hope he pipes up. As for myself I did what I set out to do and won best paint.(whoop whoop)

Thanks for the compliment, Lemartes. I was the Necron player at the tournament, and was pleasantly surprised to run into another Dakkite. Dave is definatly a good player and picked up his last RTT win with a Thousand Sons army. He's also the one who started me on the path to running a Wych army.  I figured I was going to have a rough match when I had him as my final opponent, and I was right.
I have to say you earned your best painted award with the Grey Knight force you had there. I wish I had more time to have talked with you about how you painted everything.

Games people play eh?

I recall going there with some buddies of mine in 2002 for an RTT and had an interesting time. The strongest memory of that event was an eldar player being a huge ninny and throwing one of his wraithlords across the store, nearly hitting one of my companions in the head. I really hope that certain Orem local has devolved back into the woodwork.

Thats ok though, my buddy won best painted and took home the cool painted defiler they had.

I have to say it was run rather well also. I thought it was great that the store ordered lunch and had drinks available. I have played in tourneys were players were late coming back from lunch causing delays. In my experience thier always is that one ninny regardless of area and I would like to see more store banish those poor sports. You throw a minny = automatic expungement.
