Just discovered this thread

I really like the LE Captain, and the paintjob, although I must confess I read "scourge" as "scrotum" the first time Now that is an insult to those he clobbers to death with it.

The three Captains together look great.

Scrotum would've better...would've gone with the number plate on my Land Raider..

What is wrong with the number plate..? Pen 15 is what you needed to beat Land Raider armour prior to 8th right?

It's great

Stuffs looking great.
How long has that contemptor been sitting about, was the bath to remove half a decade of dust???

How's the posing going for it? It's a real chicken and egg type kit, I remember staring at mine for weeks deciding whether to set the legs in place, then build a base or visa versa etc..

Thanks, I think that Captain turned out well.

I think I've had the 'Temptor since 2014 or so....*blush*

This is where I'm at with building the bloody thing it's very tricky. I think base up is the way I'm going to attempt it but without being able to dry fit and test poses it is liable to be hit and miss. I hope to have a chance tomorrow to try doing some leg action.

Good stuff. Have fun with it!
It's great that it has all of that articulation but getting up past the waist can be a bit brain melting.
The number of them that I've seen knock kneed or stood bolt upright doing nothing a la the plastic monopose is distressing.
When done right it's a great dynamic kit I'm sure you will nail it.

Thanks, i hope to do it justice. Yes it is an utter bastard to try and get it partially built, a bit like trying to blue tack an old metal HB Marine together. I think base up is the way to do it.

I've got one with a missile rack though they don't have rules for them anymore. I didn't find any in the FW books I have access to anyway and the SM Codex definitely doesn't allow for one. They are also 38pts which I won't always want to pay too. I decided to magnet it up but didn't want it to be visible.

I ground out a space in the central targetty thing from the Cyclone launcher that will fit a magnet....

I then drilled, cut and swore a slot into the back of the 'Temptor...and shoved another magnet in there.

This means there's nothing visible on top and metal won't be scraping on metal wreaking the paint work. The 2 magnets generate enough force to hold it together as I would normally only use one and a bit of metal.

A little GS baffle helps hold it in place and covers up the surgery..

Pew Pew Pew. Needs the rickety missile flanges attaching now.

Found a nice old bit of Necromunda terrain to be used in the basing.

More soooon!

Nice magnet skills. That's a tidy work around, a lesser mortal would have just smashed a magnet straight in and covered with GS. I hope no one overhead the swearing, if they did then f*ck them.

Do the legs, do the legs, do the legs!

Thanks for all the comments.

I did 'do the legs' but unfortunately I'd already started and was unable to recreate the classic 'crane kick' pose. I will try harder next time.

This is blue tacked and a miracle of our times. A butterfly went past and it collapsed moments later. The little exposed tab visible on the (his) right knee is how you pose the leg, it slides in a groove which you can fill with GS and so makes it easily positioned. This pose is too far for it and I'll have to snip it as it will be interfering with the slot in kneecaps. Posing it did demonstrate both feet would be on the ground which is grand.

Here the legs are fully built and the torso tacked on. I've the targeter head that comes in the cyclone set which is nice.

Magnetic cyclone. Pew Pew! I've been building as much of the arms as poss so will get into that next. I've also added a spacer into the torso-abdomen join, only a few mm higher but it makes him look a bit less fat.

Hope you likee.

Thanks! Yes I think it's a much cooler head and I don't see it around much.

Arms briefly both blutacked simultaneously..the AC is pretty much built but the fist is still needing work..

I'm going for this sort of pose..

Lots of possibility here, each finger is separate. Odd 'through hand' mount for (the newly buffed) storm bolter...note ammo that attaches onto the arm behind.

Pew! I've put the head in on a ball of GS so that it's a lot less lost in that cavernous space..it sits really low when properly mounted..

I've got in the habit of adding one of the old FW resin icons to each of my vehicles, I've long since run out and they are now discontinued (I think). I took a press mold off an existing one a while back and it gives an adequate 'print'. This is a handy trick to know.

He's chugging right along now and is nearly built. I think I will add some more GS detailing as befits a Relic machine of the 1st Company.

Hope you like.

FOR THE EMPRAH to you too princess. xx Lets try to meet up when I get back..

Yes I think it helps him a bit. Here's a bit more as I seem to be inspired at the mo and have the muse. I'm also off next week so will be without toys :(

Here's the GS icon added..

And with Cyclone..

I added a 'best in show' seal..

Then this which I fiddled with till this happened..

It's not even but will do as I had to stop somewhere.

Raawg. He's pretty much built now, I've added extra detritus to the base..

I've filled in the spaces/textured the base with some polyfilla (lent by MLCS on the proviso I credit him). I like this stuff as you can sculpt in nice detail and build it to any height etc. I will give it a good coating of PVA and sand once it's all been sprayed.

That's a tasty Contemptor, Randy. I like the little crux on his knee.

Those resin legs look so much easier to work with than the plastic monstrosity I put in a similar pose

No probs, I would be genuinely interested to know if the guide helps you.

I'm pleased with the Contemptor, It was an intimidating pile of expensive, brittle and instruction-less resin. So not totally inviting. Still, I think it got there.

I'm away for a while now so won't be getting any painting in. This is a bit annoying as I'm feeling it ATM and like to capitalize on these whims when present.

@Sherrypie: I looked at pics of those plastic ones, are the legs even 2 piece? I was thinking about getting one but they look like a restrictive kit? Any pics of your conversion?

Thanks!

Yes I built him with the base supplied. As one is supposed to. I don't hold with this putting the whole 'heroes on bigger bases' thing. And normal SM don't need to be on 32mm bases, that's for Primaris.

I'm back from a full on half term and hope to get back in to a bit of SM magic.

Before I left I managed to spray my robot and in the waiting times I accidentally built this:

Pew Pew

But what devilry is this!? I parts ordered a AC turret in a moment of weakness a while ago...

I will also paint the top hatch so it can be a basic Rhino should that be required.

A basic build not much fanciness, a press molded 'U' and a crate added. These thing fly together and it was built before I realized.

I will crack on with the 'temptor as time permits.

Wow. That's a really solid reworking of the Repulsor.
Love how you've given it tracks and toned down the armament.
It's got a really classic look to it now. 10/10

Yes it took a little imagination, some cutting, plasticard, greenstuff, a mitre saw and a 3D printer but I think the final result speaks for itself. Sorry it took me a while to respond I've had a lot on recently and didn't notice.

I've not been entirely idle during the last week or so..MLCS wanted to play a game around his birthday just gone and was also about to (nearly) finsih his first 1k of painting too. I wanted to play with a 1k themed 10th Company list I'd recently finished as well. We decided to do a scenario from CA18 which was an ambush'y kind of deal. To make it all nice, as we would both be using fully painted forces, we decided to paint up the KT terrain (from the starter box).

MLCS got some nice brown paint from Halfords and we spent most of a day spraying it all..

We managed to drybrush 3/4 of it before we had to finish for the day (picking up kids etc). I would call this colour Snakebite Leather and it got overbrushed onto the base spray. I wanted to make a nice job of it for the game and indeed for ever. Also to make it a bit more special for the upcoming game that MLCS had been working towards for some time.

I did 2 layers of Bleached bone over the top of the previous snakebite..

I mixed up a bunch of watered down vallejo black ink and scorched brown and liberally applied it to everything..

I painted the metal bits in boltgun and brass...a bit randomly to mix it up a bit...

I mixed up a wash of browns and oranges thinned with water..a nice sludgey mess (I don't know why this pic is in portait as it appears correct in my home gallery, I don't know if a mod can sort this, or someone tell me how to, as I've not had this problem before)..

I gave the metallic areas one coat of the thinner stuff and then....

Another of the sludgey end bit..

I added some areas of thinned green to look like slime or moss in the bottom areas of the buildings..

I also stippled some silver back on the metal areas as well as a bright orange to look like rust..

Pew pew!

The last stage was a light white drybrush to re invigorate the limestone type areas after the many washes.

I'm pleased with how it came out. It's also the first terrain I've done in ages. We took pics of the game we played on this new battlefield and we'll do a BatRep when we can face it. I've done a bit more on the 'temptor and hope to get the will power to finish him off soon.

Hope you like it all and that someone can solve the Dakka gallery mystery. Toodles.

Thanks guys. It definitely got me a bit of the terrain bug. I'll need to get those ruins back from you at some point Alex, I may paint them up in the same way. It may be good to try and re base them if we get a chance sometime.

Here's a pic of my force I used in the game we (MLCS and I) played recently to foreshadow a BatRep we will do soon (this year for defs). I think he wants to do a new thread in the Batreps section but I will do links in case anyone cares.
