Thanks, Klaus! Good to see you around!

Well, it just took me a bit less than a year to come back and finish her up, so I wouldn't hold your breath for the paint

On a more serious note, I think I have an idea about how to paint her, so it might (only might, mind you!) not take that long...

Cheers!

Fantastic work on the commissar Lt, and that new plane looks fantastic now that the primer ties all the bits together!

@Gits: Thank you!

@Dr H: Thanks!

Well, to make a long, boring story into a short and boring one, painting is not going as planned. What I guess might have been some paint/medium/solvent incompatibilities wound up with the paint peeling off from the wings down to the primer, so I'm working my way back up from there, re-basecoating now, so progress will the forthcoming.

I did remember to take some notes this time, so I think I might even know what went wrong, too

Meanwhile, I finished basing the Astropath from the IG Regimental advisors group, still have the other two (though I think the Officer of thee Fleet does not "exist" anymore in the current rules iteration) to go.

I tried a pale and consumed skin tonne on this one, plus making him blind (there's a purple shadow on the eye sockets that I could not make come out in the pics), for a "it is tough, being a psyker" look. It kind of worked out OK, me thinks.

C& are welcome!

Thanks for stopping by.

With the gray primer, Valk looks like it is made of HIPS. Cool effect. But painted, it will be even cooler...

Mini looks a bit 'undead-ish'. Which is fitting, if you think about it. Nice work.

Thank you both. Glad the sallow (Had to look that one up, hobby and culture, ) look shows, that, and the contrast with the robes, was the idea, good it seems to have worked out!

Speaking of paint, Valkyrie WIP, second try:

Some paint bleeds to touch up and/or battle-damage conceal later on, but not unhappy with her overall.

And a sneak peek of the cockpit-to-be:

(Ignore the base below, it was just there to hold it straight for the pic, )

Time for some brushwork next.

C&C are welcome!

Excellent cockpit detail. The paint reminds me of a Grumman Hellcat-- that blue with white on the wings. ( a quick image search will suffice to see what I'm talking about) I like it. It says Imperial Navy much better than the usual green one sees on the Valk.

Sallow is cetrino? Or ictérico? (Had to look up ictérico. )

@Red H: Thanks, great to see you around!!

I was set on the white wings on blue even before I started the build, glad it looks well, then!

Both cetrino and ictérico would work for sallow, I'd guess - as in greenish/olive yellow skin tone -, the former would refer to the complexion itself, the later, for the skin tint from a liver problem.

@dave: Thanks! Can't go wrong with that,

Calling her done for now.

(Poor pics, but real camera batteries died on me, and phone camera is just meh for close up and light-challenging pics. There's somo more colour depth in the real thing)

@Gits: Thank you, much appreciated!

@Brian: Officer of the fleet it is, then!

@Dr H: Re aerodinamics, one of the ideas for this one was to make it look like it could actually fly. Seems I pulled it off,

@stonned_astartes: Thanks!

For another change of pace, and since Brian brough it up, I digged out the Officer of the Fleet from the IG Advisors team and got right into it. I hadn't done this much in one mini in a day since... ever, I guess,

Lighting, the right camera settings, and good software to edit. But mostly, the lighting. I've taken to using to lamps with 13W daylight bulbs in them, with the camera set specifically for that sort of light, and oddly enough, lowering the exposure setting. This may help avoid the washout.

The fleet officer is turning out well. Maybe some paint for his eyebrows?

I tried to cut some corners and used my (not so) smart phone camera with no adjustable settings for macro or exposure for example.

Will stick with my old but "real" camera for the time being.

As for the eyebrows, thanks for the vote of confidence, but I doubt my hand and eyes are up to the task, !

+3.00 reading glasses for the really fine details. Use your thumb as a rest for the paintbrush and voila, easy peasy to paint eyebrows. Also, if they don't work, have another wet brush handy to 'erase' them. Do one eyebrow at a time, and match the 2nd to the first. It's just a matter of experimentation and practice. The results are worth the effort.

Also, if one is a bit thick, simply thin it by painting the flesh tone over part of it. This also gives a nice bit of 'shading' under the eyebrow too, as a bonus.

Thanks, Dr!

@Red H: I have and use every now and then a magnifying glass on a mobile arm, with its own light (dayight bulb on it). +3, so same idea. As for "simply thin it by painting the flesh tone over part of it", I guess that's why taking notes when painting is a good idea after all, I guess! (Had a bit of a hard time trying to match the skin tone, 'cause it turned out I hadn't taken proper notes,

Lets see,

Nice work on the creepy flail guys.

Any c&c on the models has been erased by zooming in.
Instead, I'll c&c the photos: more light. The real shadows are a bit too strong and make the skin in particular look flat from afar with all the shading coming from the shadow, not paint (whereas zooming in shows that you have shaded and highlighted).

A diffuse light from the front (close to the same angle as the camera) would help eliminate real shadows and let us see all your hard work.
