They are Slayers.....Fyre Slayers to be more precise , the warband was in charge of protecting the city of Shadespire long ago and failed, so now they are back trying to avenge the city and break the curse. Thanks , in the mean time they also decided to be nudists.

I thought about it, but I was hoping to find some gratis grass that was orange, but maybe brown will work .

I actually went to the FLGS to try and get a game in, sign saying Demos every Saturday 11-2......this Saturday they all went to play Kill Team at the GW store instead. As I was walking out the door a guy named Dan came in and was looking for a game, so we both lucked out. My deck was not optimized a small I have never even looked at the cards, only put them in sleeves, so I got crushed by naked dwarves against my Skaven.

Dans an excellent painter, says he’s more a painter than gamer, but he dished me out on both accounts today. Good fun none the less.

Agree with YWS, the armies look pretty on par to me. And in what kind of World does a rat wear more clothes and armour than a Dwarf? Strange times.

Your too kind, not false modesty, but I don’t think the camera picks up all the differences. I do think that he uses other paints though, probably the P3 line as the colors just look more...vibrant i guess is as good as I can come up with.

ListenToMeWarriors wrote:Agree with YWS, the armies look pretty on par to me. And in what kind of World does a rat wear more clothes and armour than a Dwarf? Strange times.

It’s a world that has been blown up and turned into the bubble-verse . We are modest rats and they are Flameboyant dwarves.

Little bit of progress on the dwarves, almost all basecoats are done minus the weapons and bases. Tried the new to me Retributor armor gold , that’s some shiny yellow gold there. It really pops against the Dwarf skin.

I also got some of The Nighthaunt gloom blue paint to try out on my Briar Queen gang. Not sure if I’ve decided to move them up the cue or not as I primed Magore’s Fiends last night, though it rained suddenly and before I could grab them and bring them inside. Hope the rain didn’t affect the primer, I put them next to the dehumidifier to help them dry last night.

Retributor is my go to gold, great colour, great coverage and looks great with an Aggrax wash. GW posted a great video on ghostly colour schemes just yesterday if you need any inspiration for the Briar Queen gang.

Thanks for the heads up , now I wish I had also picked up that hexwraith color .

Da Boss wrote:Your dorfs and rats look really good in play. I have to give this shadespire malarky a go one of these days.

Shadespire is a great affordable game. $60 for the core set which will give you plenty of play as you get lots of cards to use, but each $30 warband gives you more models, variety and around 50+ cards to add into the core set. Plus it looks like they actually are doing a great job with having tournaments and stuff.

Well got the base colors down on the Dwarf axes and glazed their beards with the last of my Lamenters yellow (which is going away apparently )

Still lot so if tidying up on the weapons to do, but definitely happy with the progress.

Started the reds on Magore’s Fiends, was going to try something different with the hellhound, but he will most likely get redone as im not liking how he is going so far this morning.

Edit: couple hours of painting this morning.

The trims are painted in Balthazar Gold for later brass work.

Morework on doggie and other angle on The Fiends.

And my gift for keeping stuff out of the landfill, four old office paper shelves turned into a model shelf. There were more black ones, but I knew the clear would be useful for letting light through.

Not much painting time lately, but what time I have had has been taken by the big guy himself, Magore Redhand.

Im liking how the jawbone axe and cape turned out. My brass paint has been dried/clumped up for a long while, so the gold will eventually get toned down.brown boots are just a quick coat, long way to go with him still, but Khorne demands paint .

The clear shelves are cheap office supply file trays in clear. I’ve seen 6 packs of them in black for $12. Haven’t seen clear ones in a while, but honestly haven’t looked.

youwashock wrote:Paint for the paint god!

The axe is a bad case of gingervitous left unchecked , it might get some blood for the blood god around it’s teeth later, but I’m really Leary about doing any more to it.

Super quick paint jobs on the Thorns of the Briar Queen warband. 2 hours from prime coat to this, really just need the basing done.

The queen and a few friends

And the others in the group.

You smashed it on the Briar Queen gang, great work. Is the main colour Nighthaunt gloom or Nikilalakakakakak Oxide? Either way it looks great. The only thing I would be tempted to do is maybe add some colour to the roses just to differentiate her as the leader and add a final bit of pop to her, can see why you may not want to do that though. That said a red or violet rose colour could look pretty cool.

The skin is Niknakpaddywhack oxide, the non-organic items (swords and stuff) are the Nighthaunt gloom. The roses have Nighthaunt gloom then glazed with guilliman blue and then Nuln oil. They are black roses on a more green vine (Waywatcher glazed) her base size is also larger than the rest of the gang, which helps set her apart from the rest. I might give her red gems on her tiara and her shawl though.

Looks like you're making short work of those Underworlds warbands! I'm digging the earthy tones on the skaven, and Magore seems to be shaping up really nicely!

I just got my copy of Nightvault, and spent last night and this morning assembling the models. Hopefully I can get them painted in the next couple of months!

A very eye-pleasing use of a limited palette! I really liking the result, even though another highlight might have been good on these smooth surfaces.

Thanks , but I think it does need another layer, so I’m going to keep practicing on other models to see what else to do. I might have to sneak in another deeper tone on them, and I really want to bring out the queens headpiece more, at least differentiate it from her robes.

Funny you should mention banshees. The next Warhammer Underworlds set that comes out is more stormcasts versus Banshees. The models are ones from the Storm Strike set which I have been considering picking up as it has the basic AOS rules. The new set, Dreadfane, will be another US and Germany only release and only through bookstores .

It is the GW LOTR army scheme that Duncan showed off, just done on Nighthaunt models , so you could go to Warhammer world and see that in a case .

You might take a couple months, but they will blow mine away, just as your purple clad skaven inspired me to finally buy into the game.

Don’t think I can get another highlight as I believe Praxeti white is my highest color, but I have been considering putting in another deeper color in a few spots to give even more depth. Hopefully I don’t botch it up.

Wow, lots of replies there, sorry for the delay in responding, busy past few days.

I’ve got a couple hours of free time this morning before a phone interview so I might do a little more work on some models. I got into one of those painting spots where I’m just stuck on a model and don’t know where to go and the other models on the bench are not being helpful . So I grabbed one of the stormcast models and added a bit of bling to him to see if I can break the block I’ve hit.

I like the added detail, but I think the white needs to go. I’m thinking cream to replace it, but looking at my paints I didn’t see anything that really fit the bill. Perhaps I just need to finish off the red before moving ahead with changing any of the rest of the model.

Cracking stuff, Theo.

You're smashing those Shadespire warbands like nobodies business.
Those ghosty blokes are particularly nice.

Absolutely digging those demon monkey heads from a few pages back. They look like fantastic.

Also with your current stormcast guy, I think the white works, I personally would be tempted to change the red though. Go a brighter red or even an orange.

Thanks Snrub, been kicking some ideas around with the stormcast guys, todays shopping trip might have changed the plans though.

youwashock wrote:I agree with what graven said. Maybe hit the folds/creases with a bit of shade. Cream or a warm grey, perhaps.

The test guy I redid the robes with Ulthan grey, didn’t really notice a difference, but we will see something shortly I believe.

So, a couple things.

Went out and bought the Stormstrike box set, intro to AOS, has some stormcasts which will eventually get cards for Shadespire and some ghostly figs which also are getting Shadespire rules. I just couldn’t wait to grab them. Plus has a mini rulebook for AOS, which isn’t starting to tempt me .

My Saint Louis Blues Hockey team won the Stanley Cup , the 52 year curse is broken . Which if the red and white I’ve been painting doesn’t straighten itself out soon all these guys will get repainted in the Blues team colors.

I felt the Briar Queen needed more colors, but wanted to stay monochromatic, so they all got some Coelia Greenshade washes on their hoods.

I think they look good, now to sort the bases, probably just going with a black shadowy midnight colored base.

This morning I changed my mind and decided to try and grab some of the Contrast paints. I was going to wait a bit, but as luck would have it I got the last of the Apothecary White and second to last if the blood Angel Red. The White was the only one I was going for, but I saw how the red looked over silver and leadbelcher so I snagged it too.

Im going to slop it on some white primed B-Sieged figs that have been sitting around. Just to test them out, if it looks good then those might be the colors for my Shadespire stormcast guys.

My initial thought on contrast paints were...bad.

But, now, I have TWO feelings:

1) ANYthing that brings new people into the hobby (any game system, just painting minis) and lows the bar to entry for painted figs? AWESOME.

2) More ammo to throw at gate-keepers who poo-pooh'd 'dipped' figures...like these. It's CANON/OFFICIAL now, you bastards!

I look forward to your experiments, ESPECIALLY what you plan on doing with the white!

Thanks Briancj,

Well experiment with the contrast on the B-Sieged models. I used regular primer, Walmart rustoleum white that is as the base as I’m not shelling out $20 or whatever GW is demanding.

Single coat on each shield, the rest of the models have the primer showing still.
You can see some slight pooling that I missed, but otherwise nice vibrant red and the white is almost like ulthuan grey , a quick drybrush highlight of white and I think it will look great.

While those were drying I decided to put the base layer on my nighthaunts from the Stormstrike box set.

Such spooky ghosts .

I might have to break out some marines to paint

Ooh that red is really vibrant. I like it a lot. A quick drybrush will look excellent over that.

The white is one that I was interested in too. I'm keen to see a few examples of that used.
