I think it's worth pointing out:  People seem to think that BWBits are required to lose money on a deal because they're a business...  "They said they'd sell bits off the sprue, so if that doesn't make them a profit, tough luck!  It's their bad business model!"

I mean, we all know how BWBits' business works.  They buy the full sprue, they clip off the bits you want, they sell them to you for less than the cost of the full sprue.  We all know that if there's a sprue with ONE bit on it that people want, and a bunch nobody ever wants, then BWBits will have to either charge the full cost of the sprue for one bit, or they'll have to lose money.  Somehow people have convinced themselves that if they go and order 500 Assault Cannons, BWBits has to eat the cost of the extra sprues, otherwise they're a "dishonest business."

That's not legitimate.  It's not legitimate to have an advesarial relationship with companies providing a service, simply because they charge you.  BWBits provides a service.  They get you the bits you want, for less, within limits.

So, imagine for a second there was a guy out there who decided to act as a "bits broker."  He's willing to take in bits from various sources, establish the relative demand for various bits, and manage trades between players so they can get the bits they need affordably.  That'd be a nice service for him to provide, right?  Very generous.  Would you begrudge him tacking on a little surcharge to cover the time he invests, the cost of his website, etc?  I'd hope not.  And that's basically what BWBits is doing.  Let's not fool ourselves into thinking they're getting rich on this thing.

Now, if they're failing to deliver orders, charging and not sending, etc. etc.  That's another thing altogether.  Poor customer service is poor customer service.  They've never failed to provide me with what I ordered at the price promised, but I don't doubt others experiences.

Okay Phryxis I read your post and I have a question.
What exactly is your point?
Is it, "BWBits is good people doing a good thing, leave them alone"?
If that's it then you've managed to hamstring your own message just by virtue of the fact that you brought the topic up.

I have nothing useful to add.

I love BWBits. Best idea for a hobby store in some time. Is there a debate about this? I've always had excellent service, excellent packaging, and quick shipping/responses. I recognize that they are now turning a tidy little profit, and I get exactly the bits I want at perfectly reasonable prices. They made money off of me when I bought my car, my TV, and even the day care that watches my son makes a profit. So what?

Where is the negative? How much they charge for assault cannons?!?

It's not show friends...it's show BUSINESS.

I love BWBits. I'd love them more if they offered bits from the Warhammer Giant, but hey...

If thats what you think, then your silly.

If a business advertises a price, agrees to sell at a price.....and then changes its mind once the transaction is in process....then its a problem.

Hellfury had a valid problem.....and I can see his point. *shrug*

I've used them once, and the bits came on time and as promised. But many of the items I look for are out of stock...so I cant say I'd always use them....

Hope more old fools come to their senses and start giving you their money instead of those Union Jack Blood suckers...

I've read a few posts where there were some references to some people having a real problem with BWBits, and I just don't get it.

What is the problem? They list thier products at a price. Pay it or don't pay it. Do you walk into a bagel store and start complaining to all of the other customers cause they want to charge $2.00 for a piece of bread?

also, for some of thier more expensive items, like the assault cannon bit, that is the fair market value, whether you like it or not. BWBits sells a lot of bits on ebay, and I regularly see a single assault cannon bit going for $12.00 or higher, on a bid with no reserve. So it's not as if they pulled these prices out of thin air...it's what a lot of people are willing to pay.

Business 101, you don't charge $1.00 for something if everyone is willing to spend $2.00.

I have ordered 2 or 3 times from them, and always got exactly what I paid for in a professional manner. Sure...they have some things to work out, any new, growing business does, they're not perfect.

Meh, the Hubaloo is overated anyway. It doesn't even have a 3+ armour save.

"Bloodstorm! Ravenblade! Slayer of worlds! Felt the power throb in his weapon. He clutched it tightly in his hand and turned towards his foe letting it build in the twin energy spheres and then finally! RELEASE! Actually, BWbits lowered the price for the AssCannon...

was 14.99 now only 12.99...

I still say a deal at any price.

I use them as well and will again. I just cant stop buying heads.

Is this news or rumours? Or is it just spam?

How many threads do we need here? Whitedragon already has one on the same page that is on topic as opposed to this.

By the way, Phryxis. Your post title is misrepresentitive of your post.

Its choc full of hubaloo.

Not "people" just Hellfury. I am the only person who has made provacative remarks regarding their business model in recent memory. So, lets cut to the chase and just say it like it is.

Somehow people have convinced themselves that if they go and order 500 Assault Cannons, BWBits has to eat the cost of the extra sprues, otherwise they're a "dishonest business."

Who says this? Lets be real here.

Again, who said this? Have you taken funny pills this morning?

Really, if youre going to spam, atleast be coherent. And having a point is helpful as well.

While I appreciate you going out of your way and making a whole new thread of spam just to make a remark towards me without saying my name, I fail to see what purpose it serves. There is a PM service, if you have something to say to me, you can say it to me.
I had my reasons and thats that. That happened months ago.
Are you still bothered by it?
Well allow me to set your mind at ease so you can sleep again at night. I am over it, you should be too.

What the hell people? How many times does a *mod* have to ask NOT to stir this pot up? Whitedragon already has a snark-free post on the BWBitz give away (which is news & rumors) while this is yet more of the same crap Yak has three times now asked people to stop harping on. Drop it already, sheesh.

First off, the reason I posted this is because yak wanted to discuss it minus hubaloo. I thought that meant he wanted a thread on it. Apparently hubaloo flocks to this topic, so maybe yak's wishes are going unfulfilled.

Second, I think my point speaks for itself. If it's beneath your notice, then it's beneath your notice. I'm not really trying to protect BWBits, I don't think they need my protection, and I don't think people chattering endlessly about them on the internet hurts their business. On the contrary...

I simply think people might benefit from being given an avenue out of negativity. BWBits is providing a service. Being angry about it is not a good way to benefit from that service. If you'd prefer to be angry at them, that's your call.

If a business advertises a price, agrees to sell at a price.....and then changes its mind once the transaction is in process....then its a problem.

I agree. I also don't think that's what's going on. I also think there are mitigating circumstances.

It's not unusual for stock to be an issue. A company might offer a product for $10. If you want 50, and they have 25, is that unethical on their part? No, it's not. Let's then say that they go to restock, and their cost on the item is now over $10. They now want to ask $15 per unit. They don't have to honor the fact that you asked for 25 units at $10. They shouldn't just charge you $15 for 25 and process the order... That would be unethical...

But being limited by current stock, and by the cost of restock, is not an ethical problem.

There's a lot of businesses out there, trading models, that work similarly. Commodities trading comes to mind. Stocks come to mind. These markets are so large that individuals very rarely effect the price of something with their single purchase alone, or wish to purchase more than are currently available for sale, but BWBits is a much smaller market. However, the fact remains, if you have an eTrade account, and they're listing a stock at $3.00, and you want a million shares, chances are they can't get you a million shares for $3.

If thats what you think, then youre mistaken.

I was charged an agreed to price by both parties. A snafu in payment arose. I was told that inorder to receive the same product, to reorder. That wouldnt have been a problem if the reorder wasnt $100 more expensive.... for the same order.

Yes prices fluctuate. Completely understandable. Thats not the issue, even though you most obviously assume it is.

There is already a thread existing on this issue.

Rather than transferring this to "Discussions", how about creating a new Dakka category? Like "Dead Horses" or "Discussions for the Terminally Boring"? Adding an entirely new category will help de-clutter the News and Discussions groups, as well as make it much easier to identify who the fattest and most worthless posters are.

So, after this gets locked (oh, in before lock ftw!), who's going to post "Neal from the Warstore ate my baby!" or "those who hate Teh Drop Zone are the suxxor!"? 'Cause you know, we need to spread some love around...
