BSF baddies look great with their finished bases! Terrain is off to a good start and cheap make-up brushes are the best. I have about 10 or so lying around and they are perfect for drybrushing.

I'm a big fan of the Dragon's Rest BSF terrain, fits in really nice on the board and was really easy to paint using a heavy dry brush method.

Cheers Yorkright, I’m starting to feel a bit better, just want it gone now!
Not Online!!! wrote:The bases look well done. Atleast that was worth it i guess.

Yeah, I suppose I got more painting done as a result!
youwashock wrote:That purple base really suits the Ambull. Terrain also looking good.

Cheers, I thought purple would work for the Ambull as it’s one of her accent colours (purple prickles on her back)
Olthannon wrote:Awesome stuff as always Gobert, looking forward to seeing the assault marines painted!

Cheers Olthannon, I’m planning black back packs for the assault Marines, so I’m keen to see how they look too. Might be a while at my pace though

Thanks Viterbi, the make up brushes are doing some pretty heavy lifting with this BSF stuff, definitely worth the money so far!

Yeah, they’re cool stls, lots of interesting details and fun to paint so far!
Guardling wrote:Oooo... Looking forward to seeing that BSF terrain painted up, I think I've only seen it as renders or unpainted so far

Cheers Guardlokg, I’ve not seen many people do it, only really Midwinter Minis. It’s fun so far, the hours of dry brushing to come might not go down so well though!
The Red Hobbit wrote:I'm a big fan of the Dragon's Rest BSF terrain, fits in really nice on the board and was really easy to paint using a heavy dry brush method.

2 comment was well I’m honoured  I played a game with it unpainted and yeah, it fits well and helps understand who’s in cover much easier.

Another Sunday, another GP painting session. This weekends F1 was a much more entertaining affair. Controversy galore and great driving from the 2 title protagonists. I decided to push on with the BSF terrain, getting all of the block colours down, doing some dry brush on the skull and finished with a heavy Agrax wash all over. It’s starting to look like real terrain, and is pretty much ready for the dry brush OSL stages now. I guess that’ll be several sessions worth given I don’t want my wrist to fall off! One of the barricades looked to have Necron pillars in it, so I painted that up to match my Necrons .

Thanks for all the comments and stopping by to look at this pic

Will do CB, slowly slowly catchy monkey/painty terrain seems to be my way.
Not Online!!! wrote:Nice terrain you got going there. Do you own a table or are attempting to create one?

Thanks Not Online, the terrain all matches up with the Blackstone Fortress tiles. They match the line of sight blocking lines on the tiles. There’s a load of corridor pieces too. Ultimately I plan to have a multi-level display in my miniatures shelving using the tiles and the terrain. Kind of like the classic Mike McVey Warhammer Quest Diorama but not quite as good and still having the stuff usable for games.
Olthannon wrote:Nice stuff Gobert, liking that metallic turquoise colour.

Thanks Olthannon, it’s a cool colour courtesy of John Prins’ Necrons.

Thanks IGtR, it’s a really cool set of stls. I should probably get the packs for the expansions too. That can be a project for next.
The Red Hobbit wrote:Nice work on the terrain, really like the brass motifs, I painted most of mine a gloomy twilight color but I really like what you've put together so far!

Thanks Red Hobbit, I’ll be borrowing some of the Midwinter Minis techniques when I apply the OSL. I want to try to match some of the feel of the tiles. I though Guy held back on the brightness of some bits so mine will have the base materials more visible and brighter OSL type effect. I’m looking forward to slapping on the Pink lightning and blood splatters!

No painting update just yet, though I did spend a dull meeting sorting out the terrain in to piles according to the OSL colours I’ll be using. Some of those will be my project whilst watching the Qatar GP on Sunday night. In the week my latest eBay purchase arrived, I bought it mainly for my Indomitus Marines who will be Dark Angels and I wanted some DA bits for them. I thought the pile was only DA veterans, but it turns out there were lots of other useful bits in there too; the odd smattering of Chaos Warrior/Marine bits, Deathwatch bits and a load of Imperial Guard bits (possibly Tempestus Scions). I also seem to have acquired a load of Devastator legs that will come in handy for my Panthers and a whole squad worth of Sanguinius Guard less their backpacks. I reckon I could print some of those anyway. So what I thought would be a decent price for a much of DA bits turned out to be a great haul of bits! The only disappointment was there were very few helmeted heads!

Thanks for all the comments, progress pics on Sunday probably.

Thanks brushcommando, the Ambull is a really cool mini, hopefully you’ll like the latest additions to my BSF collection.

Another late Sunday night watching Formula 1 and decent painting session. The race was ok, and the next couple will be interesting, but I really enjoyed the OSL dry brushing on the terrain. Even better is they seem to be a decent match for the tiles, so I’m pretty chuffed. It’s late so I’ll just post the best pics now and add the rest tomorrow;

The makeup brushes are working well with this technique, I can’t wait to get on with some of the other pieces!

Thanks for looking

Thanks Theophony, I’m pretty chuffed, one of the lighting streaks even matches with the floor tile! That was pure fluke though

I seem to have taken quite a few pics of those 2!

This next one is my favourite so far

And there we have it, dead simple paint jobs, but I’m very pleased how effective they are. The terrain was awesome without the paint, but it’s even better now it’s painted. I’m not sure my wrist will be up for all of the turquoise dry brushing I’m going to need to do!

Thanks for all the kind comments, hope you enjoy the extra pics!

Outstanding job with the blue and purple matching each side of the terrain, I went for a quick approach and layered purple, blue, white over the entire thing but seeing how you did it is making me consider painting a spare.

Ha, thanks Olthannon, but I promise there was nothing complicated on these, lots of dry brushing on the main colours. The lightning wasn’t any harder, if you look in the gallery they’re not quite a nice as they look in the post. Still dead simple though; I started with dry brushing abut more around the area I wanted the lightning (I’d maybe skip this on a mini though). Next i went with a thinned down Fire Dragon Crimson (a dead old Citadel paint) not quite to a wash consistency but thinner than contrast, with that I did a wide line following the edges of the triangles on the terrain. I then added 50:50 white in the thinned Crimson and followed the first line but a bit narrower. I finished with adding some of the previous mix to some white and picking out a few corners and the dots at the peaks of the terrain. See simple!

Thanks Red Hobbit, I wanted them to match as well as I could manage. The practicing on the bases helped get decent colour matches too! In fact If you look for the pics of the bases over the past couple of pages they show the colours I used. Your stuff looks pretty cool from the pics in your gallery too, but if you have a spare, why not give it a go!

Wow, what a difference that terrain makes. The board looks so much cooler with it and great job on using the OSL to tie it perfectly to the tiles. Haven't played in a while, but next time I do, I will be sad that I don't have that fancy terrain
