I'm going to be coming into Cincinatti for a weekend in a few weeks, and I was wondering if there are any gaming stores that are worth a side trip.  Bonus points awarded to any store with used minis for sale, tons of old back stock, interesting miniature ranges, or fantastic terrain/store armies.  Thanks a lot!

Hum, good luck.

Comic Book World, World of Hobbies and Games, and Acme Hobbies are the big three. Of the three, CBW is small but the most friendly, WoHG has the largest selection (think full GW store sized) and gives a decent discount, Acme has the most older models (but only a few years, nothing spectacular).

I've shopped at all three, but CBW is my regular haunting ground.

Where in the 'nati are you going to be?

CBW and Acme are both good. Acme is out by Eastgate, and on the smaller side. You should also try Clifton Comics and Games, owned and run by my friend Steve, over by UC. He's an old RPG hand, and does a lot of DDM and other such tournaments.

Guinness: for those who are men of the cloth and football fans, but not necessarily in that order.

I think the lesson here is the best way to enjoy GW's games is to not use any of their rules.--Crimson Devil

Hey,

I didn't know about that one. I'll have to check it out.

Thanks. (sorry about the hijack)

thanks everybody, looks like there really isn't a "gotta check it out" FLGS down there (correct me if I'm wrong). If I have the time, I'll check some out, but I know that some cities have really cool stores (like pandemonium in detroit, or the warzone matrix down here in cleveland).l

No. Cincinnati is not much on game stores. There are better ones in Lexington (The Rusty Scabbard) and Dayton (Bookery Fantasy).

Note there is one addition to the above list. The World of Hobbies and Games have just opened a second location in Florence, KY. I have not had a chance to check it out as of yet.

FLGS = Friendly Local Gaming Store, a place that usually both sells games and provides a place to play. It precludes both GW stores and a Hobbytown USA that sells a few blisters, and focuses on what I've always termed "Geek stores," places for geeks by geeks, where I can indulge in my hobby.

Anyway, I've been informed that lexignton is apparently pretty close to 'nati, so it's not a bad sidetrip. Is the Rusty Scabbard worth a trip to check out? I have the time, but there are other things I could do. Apparently our hotel is in covington, sort of downtown-ish. (This really isn't my trip, I just got suckered into it.)

It's about a hour and a half from Cincinnati to Lexington and about an hour from Cincinnati to Dayton. I've personally never been to either of the two stores I mentioned, just going by their reputations in the area.
