That looks like a modified version of the Jump Pack Autarch that GW made. I bet it is a cast conversion (however a nice one)

Trust me, no matter what damage they have the potential to do, single-shot weapons always flatter to deceive in 40k.                                                                                                       Rule #1

Hehe...looks really funny him looking sideways like this. I couldn't help but thinking: "Hey Baby, wanna ride?"

That's an Autarch i would like to see.

But other than the Jetbike Canopy (sp?), it's pretty meh.

The canopy looks neat, but otherwise a shoddy recast job. The arms are those of the plastic jetbike rider already. If you look closely at the autarch crotch area, you can see alot of obscired detail.

Even though this is a recasted fake, I think the canopy is nice and it shows how little work is needed for GW to simply make one themselves for release. Of course, that is alot to ask....

I'm sure there is a lot that goes into deciding whether or not to produce a model. No only "Is it possible to make it?" but "Can we sell enough of it, taking into consideration our costs - shipping, shelf space, manufacturing costs, etc.?"

I just don't see a market for a Jetbike Autarch, especially when GW can sell their Autarch model _and_ a Jetbike model.

Nifty work though - I would love to dabble in casting metal minis.

What we really need are some Warlocks and a Farseer as biker models.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

Those castings looked suspiciously poor for a studio show piece. Glad to hear it was due to being an obvious
recast rather than some continuing decline in their metal sculpts as that cowling looks utterly amateur (not to
mention the casting flaws as well). As to GW actually making one, it really would not be that hard to do a run
of metal cowling, legs, torso and head assemblies (all sculpted better than above) as some add-on pack. But,
as Furious mentions, it probably isn't cost efficient enough for them. I could, however, see Forgeworld doing
something like this, as it would be even easier to do in resin.

"Is it the most popular option for this particular unit?"  If the answer is "yes", then they won't release it.  But they will make it a 0-1 choice in the next version of the codex.

And by "easier" you mean "more expensive for us".

But of course! After all, why sell something in metal when you can make twice the profit using resin?

This definately is a shoddy recast done by a guy in his garage.

Theres no way that GW would make a cloak that crappy, i mean just look at the robes on the all metal Dark Angel Character on Jetbike. They far surpass the cloak on this autarch.

Also its a doggy mix of components. Bits from the Scorpion Exarch, and Scorpion Autarch. The back pack is also very badly done.

If GW planned to release a metal kit of a Autarch on bike it would have A: be scheduled for release this summer along with the Harlequins B: would have been kept under much better wraps that this. and most importatly C: There is no way that Jes Goodwin would allow the studio to make a sculpt this amateur. He has ruled over the release of the new Eldar range with an iron grip and this example is well below par compared to the quality of the new releases in the range.

It's still good enough to be sold to clueless idiots over ebay, which is probably what the original recaster planned.

The supply does not get to make the demands.

Sometimes I think "there's no way that GW would make a _____ that crappy."  Then I remember the new Chaos Possessed and die a little inside.

Interesting strategy for GW, not a bad one either.

The key words here are Eldar and Jes Goodwin. He is one of GWs most iconic sculptors and held a tight reign over the development and artistic direction of the Eldar range.

Whilst i agree that some GW stuff is terrible, thats because the design team is different or goals are not important. Ie a summer campaign splash release (chaos possessed) over a major re release of a long awaited codex (Eldar).

I think it's more a matter of trainee sculptors (and Gary Morely).  Afterall, they're Possessed - they're supposed to look retar- err... I mean, chaotic.

Either that or someone did it as a prank to see if they could get it past quality control.
