A bit too much bling for my tastes, but still a very nice model. Dynamic and a decent pose.

It just occured to me that the nose of that jetbike looks like the prow on Imperial Gothic ships. Hmmmm...conversion potential? Super Mega Stardestroyer...of DOOOOM!!!!

I like it. It's a bit over the top with all the flowing robes, you'd have to imagine that even a DA would take off the robes to ride a flying bike, but I guess not.

Yeah, well, I take it that nobody will put the box in your hands, place a gun next to your head and force you to buy it now, will they? Is it expensive? Yes. Can people see the price? Yes. Will they buy it if they want it? Probably. I don't see what the problem is.

Here's something interesting to note about this guy:  The master of the Ravenwing is NOT listed as an independent character.  Not on his jetbike, not on his speeder.  Implications?

It is a very nice model... until placed on GW's flimsy plastic flying stands that snap as soon as you try to ransport a model...

At US$39 (Bloomberg this morning) thats a little steep on the price curve.  One could convert an eldar jetbike or a marine bike dude though.

The model itself to me is interesting if you can remove the flying robes and book.  A book on a bike equals pages in your face. And where's his bug shield? How is he going to stare down the enemies of mankind with fly bits in his mouth?

"Neee tatoroth theenoth scummm why are wo waughing! "

Totally with you there, especially on the book.  My concern is actually more aesthetic than concern over the reality of junk hitting the marine in the face though.  With the book removed, the front section of the bike might not look so short and cluttered, because it actually looks a bit neat with the prow and such.

That said, I can happily say I'll never buy the model, as I don't play DA nor have $40 to burn

$40?!? What? Not that I was particularly impressed with the model, it's ok. I like a lot of the bike details, particularly the engine bits, how the twin-linked bolters have been incorporated into the cowling (as opposed to tacked on), the underslung plasma cannon (whoah), even the BFG-esque Eagle hood ornament. But, as usual with any characters these days, the marine himself is comically misproportioned and posed with the awful robes/toga flying in the wind and an unabridged dictionary chained to the handlebars. Sigh.

At half the price I'd have a hard time rationalizing the purchase of this figure (even if my Spase Mahrinez have always used DA iconography & miniatures) but $40 guarantees I'll never own it despite how useful his rules may or may not be. I'll run around the room with my converted oop jetbike or kitbashed version based off the plastic bikes (this, btw, is a much cheaper and possibly better looking option).

Thirded!  Whats' with the books? AT least make them closed on the aircraft stuff, sheesh.

I think I am going to make one on the ground or crashed and paint the book like a chiltons tech manual, with little cutaway views of the bike in it, and put a tech marine on the base.

I can see it now, a vignette titled:

Maybe you should take a wheeled bike from supply Sir? This will take a while...

Hmm..... Gravometric Flux Capacitor interfaces with the Hydrostatic Pulse Inverter. Overloaded intake valve air whatzit....

I see the problem, theres a bit of robe stuck in this vectored thrust intake turbine!

Or maybe...

Lament with me my brothers, the Master of our Ravenwing Company was killed this morning by a flock of seagulls as he surveyed landing zone Momentus.  A vile beast struck and decapitated him while he was aproaching the peremiter and they took flight in feer of the sacred hood ornament of infinite wisdom .

In better news, the sacred hood ornament of infinite wisdom has been recovered from the trees nearby.

As to the mini, it'll almost definitely need a B5 metal flight stand or the abominable 3 plastic flight stands glued together that keeps my Chaos fleet's metal monstrosity flying.

Not to dig up an old thread, but it should be noted that in US White Dwarf #326 (March '07), the Master of the Ravenwing on Jetbike is only $35, not $40.
