Well, I'm just doing white resin casts now. I tried just dipping the stirring stick in the color, just a drop's worth, and it was still a bit oozey when cured, so I'm not even going to try it again. I'll wait for the Smooth-On color.

In lighter news. I am progressing on several fronts at once, but that means, not a whole lot of progress on any of them.

I have one more cast to go for the bottles I was working on, then I'll have 5 of the "hourglass" shaped bottles, AKA the "Nuka-Cola" bottles, and 5 of the straighter hipped bottles, AKA the "Dirty Water" bottles.

Also, I made a Press mold tool to make the bottle caps, and I have over 50 of the little buggers now. I figured this way will work better tham trying to make them out of resin. Thay are just too small.

I am getting futher on the Steampunk Walker too, but nothing to update the other blog about, hopefully soon.

I also got some painting in this weekend! I know right!?!?

The Steampunk Laser Weapons Painting in Progress:

And the Skull Helmets Painting in Progress:

They still need some details, and a good wash, and hightlighted. But you can kind of see what's going on there.

I am about halfway done on the second female head, 2 or 3 more, and I'll show them to you.

Thanks for looking,

RSJake

Very Cool Jake! Looking GREAT on the caps! -What do you use for pressmolding them? I want to so something like that with aquillas and skulls. I can get those instant mold boiling plastic things from Anvil in the UK cheaper than Amazon.com here in the US, but once you have the mold, what goes in it?

I use ProCreate. You can use green stuff, pretty much any sculpting material. Not sure if you can use that liquid putty stuff you have, I would think not, as you need it to stuck to what you are pressing it onto, and not stick to the mold.

Personnaly I would get the brand name Instant Mold. There is an "InstaMorph" out there, that sounds pretty cool, and I want to get some, but from the description, it sounds like it cools to a more rigid form, and you realy need the elasticity of Intanst Mold, to make these buggers stick to the target area.

Anvil says his is the same stuff, bought from the same mfr. I ordered 12 bars for cheap-
http://www.anvilindustry.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&path=79&product_id=112
I'll let you know how it goes. I have a huge tube of 2-part (yellow-blue mix) GS that I bought from Neil at the War Store a few years back. It's still soft...does it have a shelf life?

My weekend experience with mold-making has zapped my confidence a bit, I need a sure-fire win here

Looks like the same stuff. The great part about this is the re-useability. I made lots of horrid press molds and 2 part press molds before I saw anything good at all. But it's fun.

GS has a shelf life, but it's almost as long as Twinkies. As long as it's soft, you should be good.

Speaking of vents.....I usually see people use sprue or scrap plastic for these...It always gets thrown away right? Why not make the vents a riveted strip??? Then at least you could use it instead of wasting it??

I know right? Damn inventive people!

I thought I had a great idea in the late 1980's when I thought, why not just make a tea pot that has the heating element in it? Plug it right into the wall? Then my Grandpa brought out this thing from the cupboard from the early 50's at least that had been collecting dust for the past 20 years. Same darn thing I had in mind.

He just looked at me and said "NOOB!" not really, he was very kind about destroying my dreams.

I really thought I had something there.

I always thought a video game console controller that was completely flexible would be a good idea. Then when you die in your game, you can TWIIST the thing in anger and it would just spring back into shape

Just looked at this thread again, and I completely retract my previous comment. I was unimpressed because I thought you were going to leave her half-naked, but the final result is brilliant. Not so sure about showing her cleavage, and I think the base needs work, but other than that I take my hat off to you!

Thanks Squigsquasher! I'd have to say 90% of the sculpt was at the request/approval of the client. And if I recall corectly, the term "busty" was used. The other 10% is my interpreation of the model. If I had free reign, there would be more cleavage and bigger bewbs, but we all saw where that road leads from my first sculpt on page one. So I try to keep it toned down now.

Thanks Vik! I'll throw a few in when I send the Steampunk Weapons, and see what you think. You don't have to have skulls for your whole army, but maybe as a special kill team!

well...skulls are like pepper... it can spice up a meal up a treat but if overdone it may ruin it completley...

i think the regular GW look has too many of them... i like arches and colomns and all that gothic architecture...and also on tanks and guns and uniforms too...but maybe it is a german thing (SS) but the skulls are a bit of an overstatement for me...BUT...

if i can get my hands on some fleeting images made skulls i am more than willing to give my best to make them all spicy^^

actually i had planned a session of modeling on my knight today...but again RL kicked in the groin so i rather look at them shiney pics here on dakka...

i really need to finish the knight... i want to go into mini painting assembly and all that stuff again...^^

Working on it!

Alright, I burnt out on the centaur front...the semi-finished female torso is staring at me on my desk.

I have great plans to finish it. I really do. It is letterally at the top of my to-do list! I swear!

Skulls are just part of the grimdark aesthetic. Modern society associates skulls with death and evil, just like people associate the swastika with nazis... but that wasn't always the case historically with either symbol.

It's not that. I was burnt out after my first Female Military Leader too, took me forever to get the second one done. I got two horse torsos, a human male torso, 2 heads and several arms done...I kind of burnt out on it for now, but I am getting that tickle to do it again, so it shouldn't take too long. And I will be doing some variations on the male torso when I get some copies, like one with armor, and one with conquest trophies on it. I need to do some more hands and arms too. Not to mention the older and larger cantaurs, I have a lot to do on those still.

Hehe yea, like I said man, work on it as the mood takes you. No sense in rushing great talent like yours! I will just try to feed you interesting concept art to get the tap flowing. Unfortunately most centaur art is pretty questionable, between a general lack of interest and a fetish culture that is WAY too interested (and creepy even for me.)

I wasn't complaining Wehrkind, just trying to explain in long form what Vik seems to sum up quite nicely, "project rotation".

And yes, I have learned stuff about equine anatomy that I really didn't need to know!

Looking back at this thread and the Steam-Walker thread, I seem to get the two confused at times. I'll have to add the pictures and relevant info from there to here at some point. No sense having two current project threads going. But the Steam-Walker on that thread started out as a "Hey I want to scratch-build something!" and turned into much , much more.

I just counted...I have 31 current projects ranging "concept" to "casting"! I need more time to work on these things!

Actually, I do plan to use some Instamold to create some dimmer switches that disappeared, so there's that.

Not a bad plan if they are nice and slightly expensive. If you wanted to really trick them out, you could get some bronze powder and do cold cast versions of them. Angela won't let me do anything fancy like that though, just little covers so you don't have to manipulate a slice of steel to turn on the light. Apparently she is worried I will make little cthonic heads for the switches. Which would, of course, be awesome.

More disappointingly, she doesn't get the "Who's the Boss" references I make when we discuss such things. "ANgelA!"
