I have played exactly TWO late war games, both in a recent tourney. While it was fun, I'm torn between updating my mid war stuff, and building up for late war. I'm just wondering where things are going in general, and particularly up here in the chilly New England area.

Hey bob,

I would stick with Mid war.

That will be the most popular.

Well heres whats going on at the event level...

2007 will see a mix of late and mid war events.

In  June we hope to do a D-day event and connect several battles up to the fall of Berlin in 2008. then we back track when the early war book comes out.

As you know when we plan events we often plan spec. tables missions and scenarios.

Thinking of late war would be a good idea if you like to take part in those events most mid war lists just need a option or two taken to make them a late war list so the jump is not as big as some would make it.

A good example would be any german list taking more tigers at the lower late war cost per tank......resulting in a few more tiger blisters to buy and paint to make that late war list.

I'm starting to put together a western-front compatible list, just for D-Day type scenarios. It won't be as BIG a force, but I figured having Ivan show up in France would be a bit out-of-place. Although I guess he was OK in England for the Sealion game.

I'm pretty well set for Late War Soviets. It's a bummer we can't get more than 21 T-34s on the table. Still, 5 more T-34/85 should do it. Sounds like it's worth buying those to round things out. I'll have to wait and see about JSU-122/152 if Late-late war stuff shows up anytime soon, since I'll probably want SU-100s and such too.

Always love your tables, Gordon. Looking forward to those events.

Thanks for the kind words Bob,
I'm wondering if a feature on that courageous cart horse Binky would inspire the troops?

I was very much relieved they didn't remove the Pioneer Supply Wagon (aka Binky the Cart Horse) from Festung Europa. No way I'd be able to conquer Europe without him!

Ooh, speaking of which: You've reminded me I want to work a bit more on ol' Binky. I need to find some crazed, galloping horses to replace those sedate ones. Also need to work up a large Soviet flag for him to carry. Must translate "Dig Faster!" into Russian for it.

Paint 5+ on his butt! Mabey that will motivate the troops to dig faster....

Started a late war with D-1 and then the store where I play started a mid war league.  Had to switch to mid war to play in it.  However, for the most part the units I play now will cost less at mid war then they will when we play late war.  The trade off is the support units cost less in most cases.

Most guys around Avid are playing both (Mid and Late War) with mostly the same stuff.  In friendly games, no one around here minds a sensible proxy or two (i.e. M10 for a Hellcat) to bridge the gap.  But then again, we haven't hit the tournament scene yet.  I am building a Kiwi Armored Car list for late war only, but for now I am also just converting... I think with the d-day book, is going to throw another wrench in the gears...  you will need yet another build to be competative on the beach... Its a good thing we love this stuff!

Support your local shops... before there aren't any...
