A fragment of an idea for a Scions of Mars list turned over in my mind so I thought I'd post it: cheap jump Chappy c. 132 6x10 Scouts - bolt pistol and close combat weapon/bolt gun, Terminator Sergeant with missile launcher and power weapon/power fist and heavy bolter 188 3x1 Landspeeder Tornado - heavy bolter and assault cannon 80 1500 Maybe go down to eight-man squads and get some more guns - two Whirlwinds say. Pretty much it uses Scions for move-and-fire heavy weapons. Someone jerk me to my senses.

Is the Vet Sgt. even allowed to take the missile launcher? I don't think he is... or am I wrong?

I thought that too but the scout entry is not worded like the other marine entry. Space Marine entry says "One Space Marine can be armed with a weapon from the following list". Scout entry says "Up to one model may be armed with--". So the scout entry does not differentiate between Space Marine Scout and the Sergeant like the other entries.
Seems legal to me. Probably be a pain explaining why its legal every game though.
I'd also go with a Master in this list. Those scout squads will take casualties quick and testing on Ld10 will be worth having.

This one has been coming up since the start of 3rd edition. The sergeant can not take unit options unless specifically noted. From page 27 of Codex Space Marines: Options: This lists the different weapon and equipment options fore the unit and any additional points costs for taking these options. If a squad is allowed to have models with upgrades, then these must be given to ordinary unit members, not to a character in the unit. The list is clearly illegal.

This list seems similar to one I had kicking around awhile ago and need to get to sometime soon. I was planning on a scout list based on Gears of war for the xbox 360. Anyway, I went with a master and had a couple of whirlwinds for some more firepower.
That's what I'd do...but it's just my 2cents
Thanks, Chappy P!!

I'm not one to fence with Ghaz over the contents of GW publications, nor engage in pointless lawyering. That post was as much a product of trying to find a use for the second Scions ability as toying with something with which to play. However, I left my Codex up at the club. I'm guessing the unit entry does indeed refer to the sergeant's wargear access under the heading "Character"?
@C.P.: Makes sense - hmm, maybe even PF/ML on the Sarges (Cyclone model) if using Whirlies.

Negatory, Ghaz is right. The passage he quotes specifically excludes characters from taking upgrades available to single models, while the in the scout entry it specifically allows sergeants to take bolter, shotgun or sniper rifle upgrades, but not the ML/ HB options: Options: The squad may be equipped with frag grenades at +1 pt per model and/or krak grenades at +2 pts per model. Any models (including the sergeant) may replace their standard weapons with either a bolter or shotgun for free or a sniper rifle at +5 points. Up to one model may be armed with a heavy bolter at +5 points or a missile launcher at +10 points
Note the second sentence specifically allows the sergeant exemption while the following sentence does not.

Alas, as neither weapon option is listed in the Wargear, much less has the "T" notation allowing it to be carried by a model in terminator armor, those are a no go too.

So true, but enjoyable modeling always trumps in-game poopiness. Hence why I have so many dudes with combi-weapons. Sigh.
