Hey guys, I'm wondering how much longer GW is going to support this game - because suddenly I find an urge to get a force. Rohan is so cool - but I don't want to blow $90 then have GW pull support the next day. Anyone have any idea? Chuck

They still have items coming up in their advanced orders section, so I think you're safe.
Even if GW suddenly pulls support, so what? As long as you have the models and the rules you really need nothing else from GW, especially since the storyline cannot really evolve.
From what I hear, the people who play it love it. I say go for it.

I imagine it will be around in one form or another for a long time. If you're into it do it.

As they are bringing out new campaigns ansd models to go with them. Ruin of Arnor, its clear they want to actively continue to support LotR as the third core game.

LotR isn't going away anytime soon. It continues to make more money than all of the Specialist Games combined so go for it I say.

Chucky:
Go for it. At every games day people ask the GW designers on hand: "How long are you guys going to keep making LotR stuff?"
They always answer that LotR is a third gaming system for GW now. They are not letting go of it anytime in the near future, if ever.
I would say that you can safely pick-up the minis without worrying about support being pulled soon. That said, it is in a pretty complete state right now. Even if support was pulled you'd still have everything you'd need to play.
And as Blue Loki said, everyone I've talked to who actually plays the game thinks it's a blast, so there's yet another reason to pick it up.

I heard that they renewed the contract with New Line or the Tolkien Estate or whomever recently for another 5 years, so you should be safe, I think. Go for it. The figures are generally very nice looking, and it looks like a fun little game with a bunch of interesting scenarios. Definately a beer and skittles ruleset (even moreso than 40K 4th ed.) in my opinion, but what's wrong with that?

Their current licence expires at the end of 2010. There'll be still people playing the game though for years after I reckon, even if GW don't renew the licence. And with "The Hobbit" coming out in a couple of years, I reckon the chances of them renewing the licence are pretty high. In anycase, who needs GW support? The new stuff that is coming out at the minute (Fall of Arnor) is pretty poor compared to the stuff they were producing a couple of years back, which you can pick up for peanuts on eBay and the like. And the "support" that is offered in White Dwarf isn't worth the paper its printed on. And if you want non-retail support, then you need look no further than: www.thelastalliance.com

Five years? That's how long it took me to build my Eldar army! I would do both forces, though, just in case (Another reason to buy more figs).

It will be around for some years now (it's still making money afterall) and even if GW dropped it tomorrow, it's still a good game and pretty much "complete". The suppliments they're coming out with now are basically little add-ons, you could easily buy the rulebook, whatever models you wanted, and never have to deal with GW again.
