I'm making the leap into WM and starting with Cryx.

Not sure what I need to do to add or change in this list.  It doesn't come up to 500 pts.

I have

Denny
4 Deathrippers (I can add one more but That seems a bit much for arc nodes)
Slayer
Skarlock

I'm not sure where I should be going from here since I'm still very green with WM.

Any suggestions?

It is a good start.  Staple units include Pistol Wraiths for their useful snipe / chain attack abilities and bile thralls for crowd control.

Deneghra has excellent crowd control abilities with Venom, so the Pistol Wraiths would be a good complement to your existing models.

Other popular and versatile models are Bane Knights and Bane Lord Tartarus.

Most other models are a matter of personal preference.

Would you reccommend Bane Thralls/Bane Knights and Tartarus for someone who's just starting out?

Well, if you want to try your hand at Denny Assassination I would recommend
6 Nightwretches (Rippers work too, but don't have shooting AOE)
Skarlock
2x Pistol Wraith
Unit of Bile Thralls
Gorman DiWulfe

Basically, you use your superior mobility to Grasp heavies (Spd 2 isn't going to do much), debuff to tear apart models, and Venom/Biles/AOEs for infantry. The goal is to get a drop on their caster. Pop your feat,CG the caster, scourge if you need, then light them up with wretch shots, spammed venoms, PWraith shots, purges, etc. But if you need to rip a heavy a new one, Denny's feat, Parasite, and rust will take an ARM 20 target down to 11. Ouch. That makes even Venom sting.

However, this is a pretty finesse list and can't just charge in like Khador. If you want more resilience, Bane Thralls/Knights + Tarty are pretty wicked and the Levi is a solid heavy (so is the Deathjack....).

I can not in good concience recommend the Deathjack to a beginner at 500 points.

There is a high chance that Eyriss - who is seen in many armies - will disrupt it, and then.  If you don't have any thralls handy, he'll turn around and wreck your strategy.

As well he costs around 30% of your total army size at 500.

I can't recommend the Leviathan for Denny either, since he's a bit of a focus hog, and Denny usually wants to keep focus for spellcasting.  As well, with SPD5, he has trouble keeping pace with the rest of your Spd6+ horde...  IMO the Slayer > Leviathan in Denny lists.

-edit- woo.  400 posts!

For a beginner, Bane thrall+tartarus are pretty decent since they all have stealth. So they can take a little less finese getting them across the table. But in your typical Denny list, assassination is the normal route to winning. Bile thrall crowd control is nice for thinning out things such a zealots.

If you just have to have a helljack at 500, then go with a slayer. Not as much of a focus hog and it won't do something bad like turning around and hunting your caster. Plus, you'll have one form your battle box.

Skarre would probably be the caster to go with next. She is a good counter to Severius.

All problems can be solved with proper use of a high powered rifle and a water tower

Thanks for the advice all.

It seems that Denny is mostly used to massively debuff a target and
then use something else to go rip it to shreds.

The other question I have is should I be going death rippers or night
wretches or a mix? Their sole purpose to me seems to be to keep
them as arcnodes only. If that's the case then I should be going all
rippers.

Anycase, I do have a tentative list in mind. Tell me what you guys think.

Denegra 76 pts
Nightwretches X 5 220 pts
Pistolwraith X2 66 pts
Skarlock 16 pts
Tartarus 40 pts
BaneThralls (min unit) 82 pts

This is 500 pts unless I miscalculated something.
I guess the question is should I endeavor to put the slayer in the
list at 500pts?

That last list is pretty solid imho. Onto your questions.

Exactly.

The other question I have is should I be going death rippers or nightwretches or a mix? Their sole purpose to me seems to be to keep them as arcnodes only. If that's the case then I should be going all rippers.

Well in a denny list the nightwretchs shooting is an additional assassination tool. Debuffs and/or scourge make those pow14 Aoes downright deadly. Also consider that the nightwretch can be offensive and still be an arc node, unlike a ripper in melee which cannot channel. But you do have the right idea, in that some casters can save points by using rippers (and in the case of coven and terminus, can get some use out of the melee ability).

I guess the question is should I endeavor to put the slayer in the list at 500pts?

I wouldn't try and put the slayer in unless you switch casters, play in a mangled metal or just get bored. The slayer is a bit maligned as far as heavy jacks go. However I think certain casters, like coven, terminus can turn it into a beast (or in the case of goreshade, get the slayer into combat without getting shot at for several turns). The slayer can certainly tear stuff up after denny debuffs but as mentioned above the focus needed to power the slayer takes away some of denny's options. Bad ass troops like the bane/knight thralls are more efficient with her as they don't require focus allocation to take advantage of her debuffs.

Hope that helps.
