Ok, so I got my copy of No Quarter today. Really fun read by the way, I highly recommend anyone interested in Hordes Evolution go pick one up. Anyway, they preview one new warcaster from each faction (Grim Angus, Morvanha, Xerxis, and Rhyas). All of them are really quite powerful and I can definitely see people using any of these. There's also one warbeast from each faction previewed. For those interested in the Winter Troll like I was, here's some more info: -He has a spray attack that crittically freezes anyone for one round, making them forfeit their movement. -He has a chain attack where if he hits with both claws he can make an additional ice breath chain attack. -He can be forced to gain an ability where if something else hits him and doesn't kill him, it becomes a stationary target for one turn. -Lastly, his animus makes it so any enemy that ends it's activation within 2" of it will become a stationary target for a round. Very useful especially since your warlock can cast it on any other warbeast or unit. All in all, he's looking like a really useful addition to the Trollbloods army.

This one should be fun to provoke Free Strikes with. "Hey, I'm going to walk or charge right past your big 'Jack/Beast! And if you hit me, you have to stand still next turn!"

They only had one warbeast per faction.

Unfortunately they didn't have the Trollblood alpha beast in this issue. I think it will be in issue 12. They did have Skorne and the Cirlce's alphas though. There was a post in the News and Rumors thread that had the info in there. Linky: http://www.dakkadakka.com/Forums/tabid/56/forumid/6/postid/143849/view/topic/Default.aspx Basically, there's an alpha titan for Skorne and an alpha warpwolf for circle. People are also surmising that there will be an alpha seraph for Everblight (ugh) based on an art sketch at the end of the magazine.

Because, obviously, seraphs aren't good enough.....
Legion is giving me some real pause about PP's ability to keep balance.

I just hope that with the addition of more units in Evolution, that each faction will have more ways to deal with the Seraph. Grim Angus seems like he might help some, with all his movement impairing abilities, so I'm still mildly optimistic about the future. Also, I'm hoping that if the legion player has more choices for units, people might move away from Seraph spam in general. Like with the new warcaster Rhyas, she seems more suited to be used with Warmongers, and more melee oriented troops.

Seraphs would be fine if the POW of their gun was on par with the Trencher and Sentinal Chain guns. It's the POW 14 that kills me. I don't care about the rest. It shoots like a ninja? Fine. Make it Pow 10/12... then I'd be fine with it. Nuke my heavy warjack with it? THAT galls me.

Seraphs Blight Strike is only POW 12, Ash.
It's the ability to boost their hit rolls and get that first hit that is so good. And that nasty ability to see through almost any kind of DEF buffing environmental effect.

Posted By ski on 03/13/2007 12:31 PM Seraphs Blight Strike is only POW 12, Ash. It's the ability to boost their hit rolls and get that first hit that is so good. And that nasty ability to see through almost any kind of DEF buffing environmental effect. I think he may be refering to the +2/+2 from incite - which would make the Seraph POW14. The Caveat there is that Vayl needs to be within 8" of the target, and she is uber squishy. If she looses her dark sentinel a-la-Sorscha's icy gaze or Menoth's Wrath, she's dogmeat. (Sorscha and Kreoss' feat also completely negates Vayl's feat.) Eyeless sight does not ignore cover, nor does it ignore elevation IIRC. These are pretty common buffs. Since Seraphs are only RAT5, any buff is pretty significant. As far as boosting to hit goes - pretty much every turn, you have 1 fury devoted to slipstream. A second fury goes into boosting your "to-hit" rolls. Due to my notoriously poor die-rolling, I don't trust a boosted hit to reliably hit anything better than DEF14 (74%), even though it should be able to hit up to DEF16 (50%) on average. That leaves a single fury to boost further hits, and/or damage. Against hard targets like warjacks, it will usually need to boost damage. If the Seraph is full of fury, no damage may be transfered to it. (Not that you'd normally want to... but it does come up!) So while a DEF10 warjack is pretty much seraph-spam bait in the open, one standing on a hill drops my accuracy by about 8% on 3D6 and 25% on 2D6, and one standing behind a wall drops my accuracy by 25% on 3D6 and 70% on 2D6 meaning that a wall makes the difference between being forced to boost the "to hit" roll rather than going for straight damage. Anyhow... that's just my observations from using the damn things. (They also die in a spectacularly messy fashion if attacked by ANYTHING - and are extremely fragile for something that costs 80 points.) YMMV.

A model with that DEF, SPD, wings and Slipstream should not have to worry about getting hit by too much (I know when I play them, they don't), and have a Carni as back up. Especially in Hordes where there are no LGes, etc. For 80 points they are undercosted/overpowered much like zealots w/MB, and similar "must takes". I believe the problem is actually how broad Eyeless Sight is. It negates far too much, especially for factions like Circle who, except for a few exceptiosn, are remarkably easy prey for Legion. IMHO ES should have just been 360 LOS (except for drawing free strikes....) The All Terrain should have been reserved more to Circle as well to keep every faction in a niche. That way Legion is the fastest on open ground, Circle are the terrainers, Trolls beat face and Skorne pack armor. And everybody gets a few neat tricks. As it is Legion kinda trumps everybody ATM in that they can pretty much do it all better than any other faction. Maybe Evolution will change that. If not, I suspect I will be shifting back to WM exclusively. Let that Seraph shoot at Bane Knights ;-)
