Nice looking door, but at first I thought you made the Necronomicon to continue the book theme.

I haven't tried scupting that small....... yet.

Don't read it. But you would need to use a microscope, no? Very cool stuff.


This sort of reminds me of the demon face from Tomb of Horrors. Y'know the one with the sphere of annihilation for a mouth. You could try sculpting that demon face?

That face is kind of what inspired me to do this one, although I didn't use it as a reference. I've always liked dungeon doors and walls with faces on them.

I may take you up on your suggestion.

A boy, some cardboard, and a desire to make something Orks could use to get across the battlefield

Start with some thin card


and more thin card


Fold and glue that card into something shaped vaguely like Optimus Prime


Forget the enclosed back section, as it would prevent the boyz from firing their guns wildly everywhere


Driver section should probably be enclosed


Something along the lines of a Garbage Truck


Too much open space up front


Divider creates windowed sections


Side doors would probably help as well


Some reinforcements along the back also add more texture


Can't decide which way the back section should be facing

Added vertical bars by the grill, Thickened the Bumper and widened the top strip to better support the removable roof



Internal horizontal support for roof.


Added vertical supports around windows and horizontal bar across top of grill


Added plating for additional texture and material strength.

That's a great and simple Trukk. Certainly a good base model, and you can glue more scraps and rivets to it easily. Nice work.

I did make this fast and loose, but these should help you get the general dimensions right.




I built the model in 1/4" (6.25mm)increments. None of the measurements are overly critical. As long as the right side is the same size as the left, and the back as wide as the front, you'll be good.

Long story short... I had camera issues. I'll post new pics soon.

Anyhow, can't figure out anything with Orks that makes the work involved/ stuff I want to work on / game effectiveness love triangle work in any way I'm happy with. I'm going to finish the truk I'm currently working on, and a sister one I've started as well, before moving on to Tyranids.

I actually loved Tyranids back in second edition, and I've flirted with playing them every edition since. I'd pick up a few models, build them, and then move on before fielding them.

In any case, finally decided to sit down and figure out what I had available.

Cool. I like your work. I like tyranids for the most part. Seeing them combined should be fun.

First of all grats on the 50.

Orks are a labour of love. You don't collect them to win or be clever. Sometimes it is just nice to smash stuff, even if it is your own half the time. The truck looks brilliant. Can't wait to see it done.

Your tyranids on the other hand look like a serious force to be reckoned with. Not that I know anything about playing these days.

I got my camera issues sorted, and took a bunch of pictures, but I don't have it in me to edit, upload, and post them all right now.

Used up all my free time today scratch building a Tyranid Tryanocite

Second Truk

Started with the air sacks underneath


Then I went to work on the orifice and gun ports on the top




Then I started working on the armor plated sections. In the picture there are 4 layers of overlapping plates. There is an additional 5th layer, but I had scrapped the initial version of it.


I mounted it on a 2" piece of clear pipe and used hot glue to make tendril like textures on it. The base itself is foam core covered in a layer of hot glue.


I added some plastic tubing for a base for the gun barrels. Still need to texture them.


I added 5 3" tenticles underneath made of thick floral wire and textured them with hot glue


Still want to add 5 more tenticles to the main body, and little talons to the ends of the tentacles.

I've added 5 tentacles coming off the body. Thick floral wire, coated in hotglue. An unexpected benefit of that method is that the tentacles are posable. Didn't expect that.



You can also see how I did the smaller armor plates. Cut, folded, and then creased to give it more of a 3D presence.



Here, the ventral tentacles have been reposistioned off the ground, and hot glued on talons were added to each of the tentacles. Also, half round beads were glued here and there on the upper body, representing smaller gas bladders, for extra texture.

was sold on that piece when seeing the parts even...!

what did you use for the ...well...balls?...and that red stuff... is that glue?

The gas sacks are glass beads, commonly used as counters for card games. They are flat on the bottom, and round on top. Not being symmetrical, they have an organic look to them.

The red stuff is colored hot glue. The dollar stores around here have packs of colored hot glue, with sparkles in it, 15 sticks for a $1. I'll likely paint over it eventually, but the colored nature of the glue makes it easier to work with when your layering it.

Thanks. I can never bring myself to go full Mad Max with my Ork vehicles.

I'm pretty happy with how well the Tyrannocyte is coming along. Honestly, it's my first attempt trying to make anything custom for Tyranids.

Probably going to make a pair of Sporocysts next. I found a foam football just the right size.

Start with one Dollar Store Football



Cut it in half, for 2 Sporocyst hulls



I drew a pentagram on the bottom and used that to divide it into 5 sections



Forgot to take pictures of these steps. If anyone is interested, just ask and I'll be happy to do my best to explain what I did.
