New stuff on GW's Sneak Peeks: Black Orcs, good to see in plastics. Giant squig is ... unfortunate at best, like most of the new goblins. The troll however is very good, I was skeptical of the BfSP one, but I like this guy. - Boss Salvage

They all look very nice.
The giant squig isn't great - but the focus is clearly on the Goblin. If you use subdued colours on the Squig to emphasize that, it'll be a decent looking model.
I also wasn't sold on the troll in Skull Pass, but I like this one.
The Black Orcs look much nicer than the old metal models. I'm particularly sold on the axes.

I'm particularly sold on the axes. Yeah the troll is blatantly like "look at me, my Cousin was in the Fellowship of the Ring! Give me some love!" I really don't like the LOTR rip off trolls. The old ones had far better character and appeal. But to be honest if i ever collect O&G I'd probably just use LOTR trolls and convert them anyway the new arnor one is amazing and far superior to this imitation. This O&G troll is also a member of the Ogre Iron Guts fan club with that huge stone on stick.

Don't get me wrong. I love the old Stone Troll models' silliness. They perfectly catch the stupidity rule in the model. I'd use those if I wanted a unit.
Still, more options are always nice.

I don't like the Squig...at all.
The Troll is rather nice stylewise...but imo pales in comparison with the LotR ones.
The Black orcs are pretty 40k-ish for my taste (especially the commander-guy in the middle with the helmetless head...but maybe this is a good thing, i mean what do the ork player get these days? a little fantasy bone makes them probably happy.

Posted By NAVARRO on 03/07/2007 10:35 AM Giant squig is horrible But I hear he has a wonderful personality! I have been underwhelmed by the new GW O&G Stuff, I love the old Black orks done by Jess Goodwin.

I like the squig, but the rider looks weak. "Haaalp!! Me helmets fallin' off!" The Black orks.... are too dark to see anything clearly. No way I can make up my mind on that.

The black orks look like the metals, will probably cost the same and have the same cursed detail issues all the plastics have. If priced reasonably and if the details are on par with Nelsons older stuff, then they might be pretty cool. I just wish there were plastic Savage Orks. The squig rider does indeed suck. I like the Gobbo but the squig is awful. Nothing that I can say about that troll that hasn't already been. The one in the BfSP is even better than this.

Look out Crighton! The Scarab's on to us!
Sorry, couldn't resist. That Troll is just so...Jim Henson-y. In an Australian Sci-fi kind of way. It has charm.
The Black Orcs are, in fact, a lot like the metals...and BORING. Nice source of bits for my KOS I'm sure, but otherwise...meh.
The gobbo is really quite poor. Then again, GW has to compete with Rackham's gobbos, which have just so much more personality, and Tom Meier's (aka Thunderbolt Mountain) gobbos, which look like what gobbos should look like, if you know what I mean.

Guinness: for those who are men of the cloth and football fans, but not necessarily in that order.
I think the lesson here is the best way to enjoy GW's games is to not use any of their rules.--Crimson Devil |

I love the rider on that squig, but like others have said- the squig is utter crap. Good thing I've got 50+ new style squigs left over from that mega bits sale. *sighs* I love shovels full of bits
