This Saturday will be our second Adepticon style Team Tournament. Here are the rules as posted on our club forums by the organizer.

2007 Team Tournament At Sci-Fi City
The Ebon Night Crusade
<!--emo&<_<--><!--endemo-->
BASIC RULES v1.1 Based strongly (and sometimes directly) on the Adeptacon Team tournament rules
• The Warhammer 40k 4th Edition Rules will be used and all rulings by the tournament judges will be final.
• You must bring all materials needed to play including dice, measuring devices, templates, models, calculators, and any rules that you will be using, including FAQs.
• In order to keep the team tournament running on schedule, when time is called for a round, all player's must drop the dice and stop playing - no exceptions. Because of this, please be aware of the time left in the round and do not start a turn you cannot finish. A penalty of 5 battle points will be levied for every five minutes or fraction thereof that your team keeps your opponents waiting when the round is officially started.
• If illegal units or Team Tournament rules violations are found in a player's list; at a minimum, the models in violation will be removed from all subsequent play.
• Models judged to be unsuitable conversions will be removed from play. See the section on Models for details.

<!--emo&<_<--><!--endemo--> TEAMS
Teams will consist of 2 players. Each player will be responsible for bringing a 1000 point army. Note: A player's HQ and first 2 Troop choices must come from the same Codex or Army List. Allies can be used for other slots as long as all standard ally rules and prerequisites are met. Each player's 1000 points must fit the Team Tournament Force Organization chart which is as follows:
• 1 HQ 1-3 Troops
• 0-1 Elites 0-1 Fast Attack 0-1 Heavy Support
* Each team must bring a total of 2 objective markers based on 40mm round bases. In addition, each team must bring at least 1booby trap marker and 1 minefield marker. Booby traps must be based on a 25mm round base. Minefields can be based on a CD or a 4”x8” rectangle. These objective, booby trap, and minefield markers should be themed with your coalition forces.
• Each player on a team is allowed to utilize one "floating" selection if they wish. This "floating" selection may be used for any category except HQ or Troops and MUST be from a different category than your other teammates. In other words, one player may bring an additional Fast Attack choice in addition to the standard Team Tournament Force Organization restrictions (making it 0-2 possible), but the other member of that same team may not choose Fast Attack as a "floating" selection.
• This Team Tournament Force Organization supercedes all special rules (i.e. Space Wolves, Iron Warriors & Nightlords as each player does not have 2 Fast Attack/Heavy Support slots to give up, Word Bearers may still trade one-for-one but may not field more than 9 Troops selections when the two forces are combined, Alaitoc, etc.)

<!--emo&<_<--><!--endemo--> GAMES
There will be 3 rounds in the Team Tournament. During each game, each two-player team will also be known as a "coalition". During the course of the tournament, each game will require you to work in concert with your coalition partner to battle an opposing coalition. Each round will pit your team against a different team in a series of challenging tournament scenarios.
<!--emo&<_<--><!--endemo--> MODELS
In order to allow players the greatest creative flexibility in building their armies, your models do not have to be Games Workshop miniatures (though it is preferred). However, it’s important to maintain the established look of the 40K universe. In addition, it is important to strive for a level of modeling and painting that is above average. It’s respectful to those who spend a great deal of time and/or money to grace our battlefields with beautiful models and it encourages those who desire to do so to push their skills, and in doing so, grow as modelers and gamers. Everyone wins.
• Models MUST at least look like the model they are meant to represent and fit properly into the context or theme of the army AND the 40K universe. The judge will have final say, so it is advised to present any questionable models prior to the tournament, as any judged as ‘unsuitable’ will not be allowed. As a rule of thumb, ask yourself this question, “Can someone look at my model on the table and know what it represents without asking me?”
• For scratch-built vehicles, every attempt must be made to disguise the original item(s) used, as well as modeling the vehicle to fit as closely as possible to the size and look of the vehicle it represents, including things like fins, hatches, rockets, and weapons. For example, a scratch-built drop pod should be 3-5” in diameter, have 3-5 fins, 3-5 hatches, and a rocket/turbine engine. If you can still see the word ‘SOLO©’, you have not done enough to your cup.
• Weaponry must fit the standard template for that weapon type, such that your opponents will easily know what is shooting at them.
• If you are fielding a Special Character, you MUST use the official miniature for that character, or a really outstanding conversion. You cannot field the sergeant from your Battle of Macragge box as Dante of the Blood Angels.
• All models MUST be fully painted, and mounted on the appropriately sized base where a base size has been designated by the rules or provided with the model (Terminator models must be on 40mm bases). Larger bases may be used for aesthetic or balance reasons.
• What You See Is What You Get (WYSIWYG). If you wish to use an item or piece of wargear, it must be represented on the figure, including weapons, marks of Chaos, purity seals, bonding knives, bionics, sarissas, spiky bits, master crafted weapons should be ornate, etc.. The only exception to this is the standard exception for grenades unless they happen to be integral to the troop type such as Ork Stikk Bommas.
• If a model is listed in an official GW -CODEX- and it does not have a GW model available for it, you may use an appropriate scratch-built model or conversion to represent it. Otherwise, you must use an appropriate GW or Forge World model to represent the model in question. Conversions and Scratch-builds are allowed, but understand that they will be scrutinized according to the criteria already mentioned and will not be allowed if deemed unacceptable by the judge.

<!--emo&<_<--><!--endemo--> ARMY SELECTION
• Rules and Army Lists marked as "Trial" or “Optional” are not allowed.
• Armored Company armies (any variation) and Minor Psychic powers (any variation) are NOT legal for the 40k Team Tournament.
• Specific zone fighting rules will not be applicable. Rules as clarified in Codex: Cities of Death will be in effect.
• Imperial Armor units (but not army lists) may be used with the following exceptions: Flyers, Super Heavies, Super Heavy Fliers, Tyranid Monstrosities, or anything with Mass Points are NOT allowed. Imperial Armor Greater Daemon characters are also not allowed. If you choose to use Imperial Armor units, you must bring a copy of their rules for each of your opponents to review.
• If the Codex is available for your army you must use it and have it with you during all games. If there is no Codex available for your army how are you fielding it anyway?
• Any HQ choice designated as a required choice by a Codex becomes an optional HQ choice in the Team Tournament. Each player must still bring a single HQ choice. This essentially allows Orks to use a Big Mek instead of a Warboss, for example. If every player in a 2-person team has access to the same Special Character via their Codex rules, then the TEAM may take a single instance of this Special Character as long as the Special Character is normally allowed in games of 2,000 points or less. This is the only case where Special Characters are allowed.
• For the purposes of Commander’s Heads, army HQ’s which do not have a distinct commander model count the entire unit as their Commander. As such, during the course of game play, it will be necessary to destroy the entire HQ unit to claim the Commander’s head.
• The Emperor's Champion in a Black Templar army counts as a possible HQ choice for a Black Templar force. (i.e. either a Commander, Chaplain, or Emperor's Champion could be chosen by a Black Templar player as their designated HQ choice for their army). As there may only be ONE Emperor’s Champion, only one member of the team may field one.
• Each Player on a Team must provide their opposing team during each round a copy of their individual 1000 point army list.
• All Team Tournament Missions are considered "Standard" for Space Marine Drop Pod special rules.
• Space Marine Chapters of Legend (p45) must be fielded with the advantages and drawbacks listed unless fielded as a “Codex” list with no Traits. Blood Angels, Dark Angels, and Space Wolves may be fielded according to their own books and the appropriate FAQ or as a “Codex” list.
• Note that the “Faithful Unto Death” drawback removes one selection from the Elites, Fast Attack, and Heavy Support categories. As each player only has one of each of these available and one minus one equals zero, armies using this drawback must then use the “floating” selections in order to field those units.
• Chosen of Ahriman from White Dwarf 306 are not usable in the 40k Team Tournament as their rules are unofficial.
• Tyranid players may count Carnifexes that costs less than 115 points as an Elites choice for the Team Tournament.

<!--emo&<_<--><!--endemo--> IMPORTANT NOTES
• A coalition fights as a single entity during the course of the game. This means that each coalition will perform all of their movement, shooting, and assaults simultaneously as a team.
• Wargear and abilities that affect enemy armies are cumulative, treating the enemy coalition force as one army (i.e. a Kult of Speed Fighta Bomma raid would affect both enemy coalition players as would Black Templar vows).
• Wargear and abilities that affect your own army are not cumulative with your coalition player unless he/she is able to normally purchase/use the wargear or ability in question (i.e. the special rules for a Blood Angel Sanguinary Priest could affect a fellow Blood Angel army but would not affect an allied Ultramarine army because Ultramarines cannot "buy" a Sanguinary Priest from their Codex listing.)
• Wargear and abilities that affect your coalition's armies do NOT stack. (i.e. two Inquisitor’s with Emperor's Tarots do not potentially add +2 to the die roll to go first nor do two Space Wolf Venerable Dreads allow you to re-roll the first turn twice.)
• Vehicles purchased independent of a squad that have a transport capability CANNOT be used to transport troops from another teammate's forces (i.e. a Land Raider bought as a Heavy Choice for one player cannot transport a squad of marines from another player).

<!--emo&<_<--><!--endemo--> SCORING
Since this is a team event, points will be earned as a team. The total number of points available to be scored is 279 points, divided up as follows:
Team Points:
Points Possible % of Total Points Points Category
105 points 38% Battle
45 points 16% Theme
30 points 11% Appearance
30 points 11% Sportsmanship
30 points 11% Composition
15 points 5% Favored Opponent
12 points 4% Commanders’ Heads
12 points 4% Mulligans
279 Total Points

<!--emo&:ph34r:--><!--endemo--> Team Battle Points: During each game of the Team Tournament, 35 total battle points are up for grabs. There are three objectives per battle. Scoring is broken down as follows:
Type of Victory Battle Points
Complete one Objective 7
Complete two Objectives 20
Complete three Objectives 35

* For the Tertiary Objective in each battle, each team will randomly draw a Mission Card. This mission objective will be kept secret from the opposing team until the mission is completed, at which point the team will reveal the card.

<!--emo&:ph34r:--><!--endemo--> Team Appearance: Each player of each team will have his or her army graded by a painting judge during the course of the team tournament. The individual players’ appearance scores will be added together to get the final Team Appearance Score. A player's individual appearance score will be calculated using the chart below as a guideline:

Score Description .
15 Top Army. This is a representation of one of the top armies present at the tournament. It is a finely painted and converted force which any gamer would be proud to display as their own. Subtle shading, highlighting, blending, and conversion work abound throughout the entire army. This score is only awarded if the army has been built and painted by one or both of the team members.
11 A very well-painted army that looks nice as a whole. Characters stand out. Conversions are spread out throughout the army. Good shading, highlighting, or blending techniques were used. This army could potentially win an RTT Best Painted Award.
7 An average army by RTT standards. All units appear cohesive and uniform basing exists throughout the entire army. A good amount of effort was put into finishing this army.
4 This army meets the minimum standard for a painted army, but there is plenty of room for improvement in the painting techniques and/or conversions.
0 This army was not completely painted.
Judged Theme: During the Team Tournament, a Theme Judge will rate each team's theme. 25 Theme points will be given to a team based on if it would make sense for the two armies that make up the team to pair up as allies in the 40k Universe, as well as how the two players have thematically tied their forces together. In addition, up to 20 Bonus Points are available from the Judge, for teams that display extraordinary creative team effort and spirit. Past Team Tournament teams have brought banner poles, interlocking themed display bases, themed objective markers, coordinated clothing, and snazzy army background materials, for example.

<!--emo&:ph34r:--><!--endemo--> Sportsmanship and Composition: After each game, each coalition will be responsible for rating their opponents' sportsmanship and composition from the chart below:

Score Description
1 Our opponents showed ‘thematically appropriate’ spirit: yelling WAAAGH!, asking the Emperor’s blessing, making gribbly noises, etc..
1 Our opponents came prepared to play and brought all required items to play (dice, templates, rulers, rulebooks, codices, pens, calculators, etc.).
1 Our opponents appeared to measure movement, ballistic, and assault distances accurately.
2 Our opponents put forward a good faith effort to play at a timely pace and complete the game in the allotted time.
1 Rules issues that may have arisen during the game were handled amicably by our opponents.
2 We had fun playing our opponents.
2 We would voluntarily play this team again.

Score Description
1 Our opponents' armies were a representation of a balanced tournament force.
3 Our opponents' armies were not abusive and/or over the top. We would have fielded a force like theirs if we had played their armies.
3 Our opponents’ armies meshed together thematically according to the established Warhammer 40K background.
1 Our opponents’ force did not seem to abuse or take advantage of minimum squad sizes or any obvious loopholes in the rules.
2 Our opponents’ force featured a strong core of basic troops supported by specialists.

• Favored Opponent: At the end of the Team Tournament, each Team will be responsible for picking their favorite opposing team that they played against during the Team Tournament. Each Favorite Team vote will be worth 5 points and is added into the Sportsmanship score.

<!--emo&:ph34r:--><!--endemo--> Commanders’ Heads: At the beginning of the team tournament, each team will have allocated to them 6 Head Tokens that represent their 2 HQ choices over the course of 3 games of the Team Tournament. If during the course of a game, a player's HQ choice is killed, their opponents will claim the “Commander's Head". At that point, the controlling player should turn over one of his or her tokens to the opposing coalition.
• If your HQ choice is not on the table at the conclusion of a game (i.e. Saint Celestine, or a teleporting terminator command squad that failed all its reserve rolls), the HQ choice counts as being killed for Commander's Head purposes.
• Armies that take an HQ choice that is not an Independent Character (for example, Tyranid Warriors) lose their Commander's Head when the nominated model is killed or destroyed. It is possible that the entire unit will have to be completely destroyed.
• If an Independent Character (the commander) is part of a squad that has fallen off the table or is fleeing when the game ends, it will count as having lost its Commanders’ Head.
• During the course of a single game, it is possible to lose a maximum of 2 Commanders’ Heads and gain a maximum of 2 Commanders’ Heads (1 for each player participating in the game) leaving a minimum of 0 and a maximum of 4 Commander's Head points to be scored during each game. In other words, your team will earn Commanders’ Heads points for killing the opposing HQ(s) while keeping your own HQ(s) in tact.

<!--emo&:ph34r:--><!--endemo--> Mulligans: During each game of the Team Tournament, each coalition will have the option to use a "mulligan". A mulligan will allow YOUR coalition to make a single re-roll during your game (you may not force an opponent to re-roll any of their dice). This can be used for any roll you are required to make (i.e. armor save, to-wound, first turn, leadership, difficult terrain, table side, etc) and as such, the re-roll may require 2d6 or 3d6 to be rolled. Please note, though, the standard rule of 40k applies - you may not re-roll a re-roll (so no Venerable Dreads getting two re-rolls to go first!) It is up to you and your teammate to decide when (or even if) to use your mulligan.
• For scoring purposes, if your coalition does not use their mulligan during a game, you will get 2 bonus points added to your tournament score. If your coalition uses a mulligan during a game, you will give 2 bonus points to your opponents. As such, you can score anywhere between 0 (if you used a mulligan in each of your games and no team used theirs against you) and 12 (if your team did not use any of your mulligans and your opponents used one in each of their games against you) bonus points.

The event has passed.

Thanks to everybody who attended. We had a slight issue where a lady was missing her partner, but somebody steped up to the plate and the team didn't do half bad.

My team (Eldar Domination, Eldrad/Avatar with Gaurdians Combo) was the Overall Winner, with Unholy Alliance (Godzilla Nids) coming a close second.

We had 10 teams overall, almost twice as much as last years. Here is to making next year's bigger and better.

Thanks. And to be fair, it really wasn't my event. Though I am a council member and co-founder of the Adeptus Orlandicus Club, full responsibility should be with our member Ernie, who ran the event and co-ordinated it all himself. I had very little to do with the event actually.

And also, we barely got the overall. Eric and Micheal brought a Godzilla Nid team, and totally dominated all of their games. If time wasn't called in the last round, they would have gotten full points in that one as well (litterally a Rhino and two Sentinels versus 5 TMC's, and the round was called in the 5th turn. They where one objective down so lost those points). They would have easily gotten the overall.

James and I lucked out really. We got three straight wins but not full battle points (each mission was similar to Adepticon Missions with a Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary objective, we only got all three in the last round). We litterally won on soft scores. They won best tacticians (more Battle Points).

Where where you though. We had several people hanging around at sign-up hoping to hop on a team, I am sure you could have filled your missing team mates spot. (It was a good thing we had people interested in joining, Lisa was stood up. Good thing she got a partner and had enough bugs to fill two lists. She drove two and a half hours to get there and almost had to go back home without participating)

I wanted to make sure I would have a partner before committing to the drive there. It is hard to be competitve when you team up a few minutes prior to kickoff. It is no big deal and I am glad to hear it was such a big success. I think highly of Ernie to be honest.

So on a side note it is sounding like zilla nidz are nigh unbeatable. I did have a chance to play against Eric and Michael in a friendly match with the Armored Company guy and it worked out to a draw. Eric had to leave early and I think we could have won if it had gone one more turn. That was back when DA still kicked ass though.
