Can Power of the Machine Spirit allow ordnance such as a demolisher cannon or a whirlwind battery to fire if the vehicle moves no more than 6 inches?

Demo cannon - yes.
Whirlwind - only if the vehicle doesn't move.

Out of curiosity, why can't it operate Ordnance Barrage weapons?

PotMS is not required to fire an Ordnance weapon if it moves. A vehicle can move 6" and still fire Ordnance weapons. Ordnanc Barrage weapons however, must remain stationary to fire. All PotMS does is allow them to fire one more weapon than they would be able to normally, even if stunned or shaken as long as it moved no more than 6".

So, a Leman Russ can fire its Battle Cannon as long as it moved 6" or less. A Basilisk however cannot. What makes it nice for SM is if you put it on a Vindicator, and its stunned or shaken, you can still fire the Demolisher.

A bassie can't direct fire? You sure about that?

Ordnance Barrage can't move and fire, naturally, as you say.

Basilisks can indeed direct fire, if they have LOS.

PotMS allows a vehicle to fire a weapon despite being Shaken, but doesn't override the rule forbidding ordnance barrage weapons from firing indirectly while moving.

Hijack!

So, I've seen this a couple of times before, but I just want to get a consensus here. Does being able to fire one more weapon than normal mean more than 0 or more than 1?

In other words, does the POTMS only kick in when the vehicle is qualified to fire ANY weapons? So, a normal vehicle moving 7" would NOT be able to use it right?

Correct

It specifically states that PotMS can only be used if the vehicle moved 6 inches or less.

Though, I'm unsure about the 0 or 1 weapon part.
