It's like a Carly Simon song. You're so vain, you probably think this comment is about you, don't you?

Of course, your comments are actually aimed at me, like you're accusing me of something. But that would be silly, because I am fully aware that perfectly intelligent people can come to different conclusions than them based on the same presented facts. Also, I'm totally aware that opinions are opinions. Do you honestly think I don't understand that a = a? Why would you assume otherwise? That's something else that makes my blood boil. People who toss out meaningless and vapid accusations that they can't substantiate and won't defend, all because they got their panties in a twist on account of reading themselves into a generic comment not directed at them. Check you ego, "skippy."

Anyways, I was talking about conservatives. Conservatives don't have any facts, and when you show a conservative facts, he just starts squawking about liberal bias, or going off on some screed about the horror of brainwashing that is a college education. I mean you have to know what I'm talking about, Rain. You're always running around here ignoring facts, making up nonsense, and failing to support any of the ridiculous positions you take.

That's exactly what I was talking about.

You'll also find that other than a select few uncouth individuals I'm perfectly capable of having a discussion with someone with whom I disagree.

Whenever my GF says that, I always respond with, "well, that depends on what the favor is." Then, after I hear what it is, I decide if I'm going to do it or not. Works like a charm.

As for it being a passive aggressive order, maybe, maybe not. I use that phrase sometimes with my troops so that it isn't a direct order. So, they don't feel like I'm telling them, you must do this or that. It's a way to say hey, I really need this done, can you do it? I hate to ever have to say to a troop, you will do this. Most of the time things get done quicker if they are phrased in the form of a question, at least in my experience.

There's two types of 'conservative' though. One I can respect... the one with the 'less government' fiscal ideal. One I can't stand: the god-fearing, gun toting, prayer-in-schools, anti-gay-marriage, pro life, pro-death penalty type who vote based on their religious faith. Religious conservatives bug the sh!t out of me. Financially responsible and personal rights (like the bear arms thing for instance) conservatives are on my team.

I also hate flakey hippies just about on the same level as religious morons, self-proclaimed 'wiccans', women who throw punches with the assumption that they won't get hit back, I hate it when people who get to sit around doing next-to-nothing at work (cubicle culture), act like they think they are better than me for having a 'good' job, while I bust my ass for less wages doing the tough jobs, and don't have the luxury of playing 'mafia wars' or writing on 'dakka dakka' while I'm theoreticaly at 'work'.

Right with yo there, mate. I can't stand religous right wing conservatives....they...I...ugh, don't want to talk about them. Let's just say a year in a very Evangelical Christian high school has ruined my idea of that portion of the population forever.

Having had a lengthy conversation with you, Chris, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but...there is a very large gulf between your self-perception and your actual behavior. In short, no, you aren't the sort of conservative who "will listen to facts and change my arguments to deal with them." You are very much the sort of person I was complaining about, the sort who thinks his uninformed, uneducated opinion is worth sharing, can't be bothered to educate himself, and insists on "agreeing to disagree" when he should be recognizing the limits of his knowledge and trying to learn more.

I mean heck, Chris, my comment about people who are incapable of recognizing that some opinions are foolish and embarrassing was directly inspired by your post in the Blood Dolphins thread whinging about how dare I say that your completely uninformed, ignorant and pig-headed opinion was wrong, as if it were utterly implausible that maybe, just maybe, you might have been talking out of your ass.

Conservatives have plenty o facts on their side, and just because some conservatives are crazy, screaming, McCarthy-ist nut jobs doesn't mean they all are.

Nope, 'fraid not. All facts support liberal positions. Conservatives positions are all based on dogmatic assertion of ideological fallacies that exist in defiance of basic facts, except those conservative positions that lack even that much "support" and are little more than empty, rhetorical dog-whistles for racists, xenophobes, sexists and homophobes. Conservatism is not a rational position, it is a frothy stew of hate, ignorance, idiocy, and lies perpetuated to maintain the elites.

You can pick any commonly asserted conservative position, name any recognized conservative principles, and I can show you exactly why it's a complete load of crap. Except you'll insist on agreeing to disagree, even after we reach the point where anyone with a shred of intellectual honesty would have to capitulate and admit their position is filled with faults.

Feel free to test me on that, I do enjoy pointing out how stupid conservative positions all are. Not that conservatives are ever convinced. It's pretty hard to convince people who regularly deny the possibility of reason and truth that there is a reasonable truth.

I hate people who are deliberately belligerent purely because they disagree with someone's standpoint, and who seem to need to be able to see themselves as right, by trying to destroy other people's opinions.

Just because you have an opinion, which may or may not be backed up with evidence, doesn't mean that other people aren't entitled to their own.

Yeah. Whatever. I'm just sick of conservatives inciting hatred of gays, muslims, and other minority groups because of their precious right to have an indefensible, stupid and often inhumane and backward opinion they can't hope to support.

Call me belligerent all you want. I hate conservatives, and I'm not going to apologize for it. All week Fox Sports has been advertising that they would be showing the game between Philadelphia and Green Bay. They even published a map showing what areas would be veiwing which games. The "A" team of commentators even in Philadelphia.
So..... Here in Oklahoma, they are showing the Arizona/St. Louis Game.... because some former player for the local college now plays for the Rams. And its a massive suckfest of a game.
So why am I pissed? I grew up in Philadelphia, been raised as an Eagles fan. Anyone that knows NFL know about us Eagles fans.

Y'know Gailbraithe, didn't you already get a 5 day ban for personal attacks in debate? I reported you as well as the claim that dogma alone got you banned.

See the bolded stuff above? That is not necessary for you to convey your point that 'ChrisWWII's opinion is wrong'. That is random gak that you just tack on because you want to insult me. If you want to debate someone, cut out all the insults. A good debater shouldn't need insults to back up his or her points. THeir points should stand on their own merit. Yes, I hold the opinion that agreeing to disagree is a completely valid solution because some disagreements come from such deep seated emotional viewpoints that they are irreconcilable, and both can be right at the same time. In our earlier debate, we both had viewpoints that were on clean opposite sides, and were obviously not going to budge on. Neither was wrong, despite what the other thought, and the mature debater would smile and say 'well, this was a fun debate' and continue. It's only immature people who go screaming that the other is an idiot.

=Shakes head= I will feel free to test your opinion's Gailbraithe, as not all facts support liberal positions only. Socially, maybe, but I don't give a crap about social conservatives anyway. Fiscal conservatism has tons of good points and evidence backing it up. Here's a good, standard, conservative position for you: The free market is good, and overregulation is bad.
