The dragon's face is kinda weird-looking...like the hydra's but with about a billion more teeth.

5:00 A cockatrice! I can't think of anything negative to say about this. A genuinely decent model from start to finish, and I quite like the goose-bumpy skin texture.

3:00 A manticore. OH DEAR.

2:00 A throne. If I played Vampire counts I'd be really excited about this. Since I don't, I'm not.

1:00 Some kind of pedestal tower thing. From what little we can see it's not bad, but the gargoyles are just odd. I guess the warping powers of the nightmare realm can make anything possible, but I'd hope the ruinous powers can conjure something a bit more impressive than impractical architecture.

12:00 (center) Another manticore. WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?!

It's hard for me to judge the manticore really, but from what little I can see of it...oh dear. The pose looks terrible and I dare say that the metal one was much better posed...despite being anorexic and uglier than sin.

Honestly they could have done a lot better. Look at what some of the smaller miniature companies are putting out.

They're not bad, they're good, but I was at least expecting better looking dragons that didn't have a goofy looking head.

White Dwarf Release will change a little bit.

The plan is that noone gets their WD any time ahead of the release date. For prescriptions that means that there is a likelyhood that they will get theirs AFTER the actual release. No more early scans and peaks.

Well the new DE sorceress looks better than the other one...glad to see the dragon has two head options because I'm not a fan of that one.

I didn't think it was possible, but honestly? I think the new manticore is worse. Seriously, that's what I was waiting for this whole time? I hate everything about it.

I quite like all the monsters, even the manticore. Though I could've done with out the burning skulls and wind skulls.

I'm actually excited for the release, rather than filled with diabolic dreadfire portal dread of magic further ruining the game.

In a sense I'm glad as it'll make it easier to get models for Warhammer Quest. I don't play 8th Ed fantasy currently but I quite like the Cockatrice (IMO it's the best there) but the Manticore's look static, for some reason I just heard "I WANTS SWEETS!" and the Chimera looks like it's got head shaped tumors instead of actual 'free' heads? I quite like the scenery though, shame they couldn't find more room for some skulls

It is funny how they think their work is top secret though, yet we still manage to get sneak peaks like this

I really like the cockatrice. That Dark Elf sorceress standing on the Dreadfire portal is pretty great too, and this is coming from someone who hates Dark Elves.

Not surprised on Ancestor Runes. Dwarfs had to get something, and that was the obvious route. I'm guessing one will let them "control" monsters to get in on that action too...

Wow, that Dragon is simply amazing, looks like I'll get one of them and a Manticore for my DE, hoping to make the Lord and Sorceress mounts interchangeable on the two beasties, hope it can be easily done. So long June's pay-cheque!

Just a point, but if you're going to swipe images from Warseer, it's considered polite to rehost them (whilst indicating the original credit), so as not to steal their bandwidth - especially when Dakka has it's own Gallery.

If you look closer, the dragon's head mirrors the Hydra's head, so give the army's monsters a unified look.
But read the describtion in the scan for the number of options you get with the kit.

Citadel's queen of creatures, Trish Morrison, has spent the last few years in her own lair preparing for the new monsters to be unleashed upon the world ...

I didn't expect much when I heard Morrison was behind these critters, and these pics just confirm my suspicions. The cockatrice is the best of the bunch (but WTF?! at hand on the end of its tail), and I suppose I like the chaos star on pillar of fire / wind on principle. The vortexes are nifty too.

Really though, I continue to look forward to not doing anything with Storm of Magic

At least it looks like DE and WoC get some new characters, which is groovy.

EDIT - Just noticed the chaos heroes riding those manticores. Plastic mounted lord models, that's kinda neat, just a pity that they come with an expensive, fuggly monster between their legs

Is the cockatrice a being of chaos? That could explain the tail claw I suppose

... I guess the Cocktrice could be used as a Quetzalcoatle-ish addition to a Lizardman army? (once you get rid of the weird third hand...)

I just don't know how to feel about all this. I will really have to wait till I can see the models/rules to decide I guess.

Sad but true. Many of these new monsters look extremely cartoonish, like kids toys.

The giant skulls throne is totally ridiculous.

I'm very keen on the new sorceress for the dark elves, I'm fairly certain she'll be succumbing to Slaanesh before too long. Perhaps then some good will come of this with some new character models.

As to the mounted chaos lords, the bits companies are going to be your friend there.




ALSO, did anyone else note the manticore wings having a scorpion-like claw...? Seems it's ok for GW to send Raging Heroes a C&D about their lammasu head, yet here are GW stealing a design straight from Raging Heroes.

Everything looks great, but by the time my armies get a new released, I'll have a new book. ( I play Dwarves, Wood elves and Deamons).

Not impressed. Maelstrom will be getting my monster money.

I feel the cartoony, toy look is mostly due to bad paint jobs. I could maybe accept bright colors on a Cockatrice, but a Manticore with an orange mane just looks silly not matter how good/bad the actual sculpt is.

I might get the dragon as it's body looks very well done. Chimera is meh and Manticore would require way to much fixing for me to consider it. It's better to just convert the griffin mount from the last starter box.

Yes, that's proper "plastic" plastic, NOT finecast garbage.

They are plastic!! Awesome! I really like them.

And @Alpharius it says there are two heads for the dragon, 5 mount heads for the sorceress.
