A patch that adds more high-end stuff.
- Uranium, plutonium and solarium now work as fuels
- You can now REALLY craft a grappling hook
- Boss balance has been tightened even more
- Platinum armor is now unlocked on tier 5
- You can now ‘recapture’ pets
- some more fixes

The damage handling system could still do with more work. A tier 1 weapon can do the same damage as a tier 3 one, despite the difference in difficulty of receiving either. I've found that my enchanted sword that I found within minutes of starting my character is much more effective than anything I can make or buy in the Gamma sector (though that may be down its mediocre lightning enchantment). Previously the weapons were overpowered yes, but I'd rather not have to hit a level 1 mob four or five times to kill it (and that's just the day time ones). Guns seem to be fairly worthless now too. The strongest one I could find (a sniper rifle that takes away a quarter of my energy per shot) still takes longer at killing monsters than a regular sword will. So I could shoot at a bird in the sky all day, or instead (in a much cooler fashion), slash at it with my sword and the pulse jump tech.
The Ai fix seems to have broken birds a little too. Unless you kill or trap them, its common to be followed across an entire planet due to their overly aggressive behaviour (other mobs lose their aggro once they're off the screen mostly). Aside from birds, monsters could do with the ability to retreat. Instead of bouncing aimlessly against a wall as my character shoots them from safety, they could instead move to away if they don't land a strike in an amount of time or something. Or alternatively, should they have decent health and strength, smash any blocks between them and you. Both of those of course have their flaws, but I do kind of feel bad that all it takes to say kill the second boss is a one block thick cage about it and a something to prod at it through the gaps.
But meh, beta. =P

Thanks nomotog, always good to see more people online.
Wyrmalla, it may be a beta but it's an open beta for a reason, to get feedback, and that's some good constructive criticism. Posting things like that over in the Starbound forums can help the devs.
However, there was an update last night that addresses some of the items you've mentioned:
Changelog for v. Indignant Koala 11/12/2013
There are a whole bunch of improvements to balance here, particularly in the early game.
We aren’t wiping characters or worlds, but if you want to experience the proper balance
you should make a new character/worlds to play it on!
Also..
- Nerf the hell out of birds, they no longer attack you at long range, lower damage, don’t follow you forever.
- Monster projectiles across the board better balanced
- Shields better balanced
- Early armors better balanced
- Melee weapons better balanced
- Ores better balanced
-AI improvements
- you can now craft lanterns (similar to sixxes’ lantern mod!)
- you can now craft a new back armor to help light caves
- fixed the bubble gun crashing on mouse over
- improve grass ( Suggestion by Dracyoshi)
- You are now invincible on your ship (this requires a new character)
- You need to be hit a lot harder to get knocked back
- some UI updates
- Drills now destroy 3×3 blocks
- nerf fall damage
- You can now turn 10 unrefined wood into coal in the furnace
- New “melting” status effect on lava makes lava super dangerous (watch out)
- Other misc changes

This is the current DakkaDakka base, apart from the first floor and the basement which are purely functional rather than decorative. Two floors still need decoration if anyone is up for it.

Okay then. Well. They still need to add in content for the later tiers as well as the end game in general (and theyr';e doing that; they said something like half a tier a week or something?), as it's far too easy to progress to the end. Still, it's cool looking.

I upgraded to drills so I left my diamond pick on the server. I also dropped off yet more seeds. It think I might need to re do the farm soon, so it can grow them all.

I've updated the server to the new version:
Changelog for v. Offended Koala 15/12/2013
There are a whole bunch of improvements to balance here, particularly in the early game.

- Experimental gun rebalance
- Experimental biome settings
- Streamlined mod support, more details here
- Unique monster changes
- Enable plasma guns
- Fix naked NPC merchants
- new portable pixel printer item (you must unlock tier 2 for it to show up in crafting).
- Tons of new blocks and items to craft
- New random encounters with unique items to find
- Lots of work in progress server changes
- Pets only attack npcs that are attacking the owner
- New songs to play on instruments including christmas carols
- New novelty hats
- Pets now level up
- you can no longer warp to gas giants
- Lots more fixes and small additions
More coming really soon!
While I'd like to avoid resetting the "home planet" we have, because of the buildings we've made, if anyone wants me to reset specific planet(s) to "experience the proper balance", let me know.
I've also changed the server to use the new accounts system (so you have to type an account name in the account box). I'll be PMing you your new details imminently.

So finally feel like I made some progress with Starbound, got a load of weapons. My burny hammer of doom is awesome XD
Thing is though, I now have no idea where to go. I'm guessing its the UFO boss but didn't somebody say you need silver armour for that? I'v currently got full iron.

You don't necessarily need to defeat the UFO boss to progress either. Yes, if you want to head to the second tier it is required, but there's still an infinite number of planets available in the Alpha sector. But if the UFO has been nerfed I see no reason not to just spawn the thing and give it a kick about.

You can still use terrain and an iron bow with no armor if you want. It doesn't quite destroy blocks that quickly anyway, especially harder blocks like stonebrick.
