I've so far been quite happy with my pledges, but looking at them and how much I've played them ... well, that's a lot of wasted money.

Maelstrom's Edge - $126, built the models, still waiting to be painted, never played.
Shadowstar Corsairs - $64, never played
Pillars of Eternity LotER Card Game - $64, never played
Divinity: Original Sin 2 - $30, hasn't been completed yet (is running late), but looking good.
Battletech - $85, still in development
Warpath - $80 for jetbikes and some troopers, arriived a bit late, still unassembled and unsure what to do with them
Dropfleet commander - £205 - arrived half a year late but still very happy with the models and the game, played a bit and waiting for others in my area to get their stuff built and painted.
Fleet Commander - €133, still waiting for delivery (looks like half a year late, too), not sure I'm going to play it.
Battlestations: Second Edition - $125, going to be late, not sure I'm going to play it.
TGG2 - $200, just arrived with a full year of delay, super happy and it turned out to fit with my plans for a 40k army extremely well since GW updated Celestine and her ladies in the meantime.

I'm still looking at KS projects but I've become very reluctant to back anything I'm not 100% sure I'll be able to use / play once it arrives here.
The basic idea still appeals to me, and I've always expected the projects to run late. I only got angry at Hawk Wargames (Dropfleet Commander) since they did not update the backers on the progress over long periods of time. Products have all been top-notch though.

That's what eBay is for!

Out of all the KS stuff I got, I've sold off something like 80%, only kept the stuff I really like. On net, I effectively got those KS items at an even deeper discount, so I'm totally OK with how this has turned out.

Again looking back on my last post, not much has changed in the fulfilment department..

- Bones III, which was supposed to ship around August last year but is well over target, though I have been told to not be so entitled about it and just shut the feth up already.

- Mantic's Warpath, still need my GCPS vehicles, though Mantic is being a bit dodgy about when these will come and in what medium.

- Kingdom Death 1.5, though I should point out that I secured the pledge for my brother so he could get an upgrade pack, adventure book and tie-in mini, but nothing else. This one should be on target, unlike the first one.

As for the other two I had on my list:

- Astropolis went off without a hitch and shipped ahead of schedule! If his second KS has as interesting minis as the first one and keeps it on target as well (as in, a small and focused campaign with little to no stretch goals or the like), I will most certainly back again.

- This is Not a Test has really slipped and overshot, with the EU pledges being shipped out just before Christmas and my pledge (or is it the replacement I requested? I don't know) showing up around the end of February. Bit disappointed with the final result, the book looks and feels cheap, certainly not something I'd personally attach a $50 price tag to. But feth it, I finally have the rules in dead tree format.

Q1 2017 is easily the most I've ever spent on KS stuff, by far.
- I pledged Kingdom Death 1.5, and then added a bunch more in the PM
- I also put down a $1 marker on Rising Sun
Looks like I'll be looking at base pledge for Smog: Moloch to try and stick to my budget.

Unrelated to gaming, I have been tracking Fidget Cube, which I put a buck at, but never converted to a pledge due to increasing unease with how poorly Antsy Labs were running things, how little information they shared with their backers, and how obvious it was that much of what they shared were untruths if not deliberate falsehood and fabrications. Ultimately, I ended up buying a knockoff for far less than the KS price, receiving it in days rather than months. For how poorly they treated their backers, I feel exceptionally good buying the knockoff, rather than supporting those scumbags.

Wow, it's been a year since I last looked into Kickstarters as a whole. In that time:

Kingdom Death 1.5 delivered 2 Waves to me:
1. Core Game
2. existing Expansions
This is basically "on time" with what Adam had estimated at the end of the KS Campaign, and the shipping prices ended up below estimate. I added more money, still have 2 more Waves to go, likely stretching out to 2019, but we'll see...

Smog: Rise of Moloch delivered to me, and it's hit the tabletop *twice*. I'm still awaiting FAQ / Errata & corrections to be mailed to me.

Ogre Miniatures Set 1 delivered late, and Set 2 is still pending late (and growing later). At least they're delivering.

Super Dungeon Explore turned into a total clusterfeth of incompetence and lies, and I was lucky to get most of my money refunded.

Robotech Tactics pulled the plug and refused to honor the refunds they are legally obliged to provide. I've basically lost about $60 of the $80 stake I put down. Fethers.

Journey: Wrath of Demons putters along with zero money but lots of heart. I really wish they can relaunch and deliver more of what I paid for.

SUMMARY

I'm down to 2 active Kickstarters: Kingdom Death and Ogre Miniatures set 2, and it looks like both should actually deliver!

Thanks for the reminder..

Still waiting on my Mantic Warpath GCPS vehicles, any time now Mantic?

Also waiting on wave whatever for Kingdom Death's version of Hyper Light Drifter and the adventure book.

I have an open pledge on the Daughters of the Burning Rose KS, though not sure if I'll keep it, as next month is promising to be a release window of GW's stuff I'll be interested in.

Yeah, lots of interesting stuff that I just didn't pledge for. I love the look of Time of Legends : Joan of Arc, but I can't see it hitting the tabletop with all of my other projects and games.

2 Backed so far this year

Zombicide Invader
HATE but was a $1 pledge that I won't be taking further

6 Backed in 2017

KoW Vanguard
Everlasting Wet Palette - should be shipping in a week or 2 only a small pledge here
CMON ASOIAF - delayed but in production and looking good so far
Zc Green Horde - have the base game - wave 2 due in June
Terrain Crate - In production more or less on time
KD:M 1.5 (it funded in 2017 so I count it as 2017) have wave 1 nothing in wave 2 wave 3 and 4 expecting delays but it's a quality product so best not to rush it.

I still have 7 others outstanding in full or part including

Trollforged Assimilation Alien Host - 5.5 years still waiting we agreed I'd take 6 Dreadnoughts and write of nearly $80 that was last summer but still nothing. Ed will get this finished some day he'll see everyone right eventually.

SDE Legends - complete mess, been lied to about production for ages and now they are spamming stuff not even in the KS just to fill updates but you know it's all the backers fault!

Journey Wrath of Demons - They are making some small progress but the money is gone they want to do the right thing but ultimately I expect this to go on the write off list.

Heroquest 25 - Still think I'll get it some day but I'm not sure how they are going to pay for manufacturing and shipping as the money appears to be spent and they are getting tied up in legal issues.

I've been quite lucky really 55 projects backed no outright failures yet and my write off list is tiny - just the Maki Advertising boards they never produced and the AVP extra bits (conversion heads) I'm still owed the multi part marines and they just hit retail so I'll chase them up at some point. Some of the games themselves are a write off but at least I got them.

I'll bite, here's my gaming KS history:

MINIS

Arena Rex [5 minis starter] - unbuilt and unplayed, but club interest bump after PAX Unplugged

Wrath of Kings [1 faction starter] - sold to clubmate

Going Native: New World Monsters [3 minis] - unbuilt

Titan Forge X-Terra Stuff [bunch of demon minis] - unbuilt, keep meaning to sell

SDE: Forgotten King [game + extras] - love it, play a handful of times a year

Punkapocalyptic [$1 pledge] - watcher

Raging Heroes: TGG2 [loads of lust elves] - complete as of January, organizing for KOW

SDE: Legends [game + extras] - IN PROGRESS (and I late pledged so don't get updates?)

The Other Side [1 faction + shirt] - IN PROGRESS

Deep Madness [game + epic monster add-ons] - IN PROGRESS

Reaper Bones 4 [2 big monsters] - IN PROGRESS

HATE [game + lizard dudes + dice] - IN PROGRESS

Pacific Rim: Extinction [3 drone kaiju, no game] - IN PROGRESS

Zombicide: Invader [$1 pledge] - NEW (unlikely to back further, more interested in Black Plague or Green Horde)

CARDS

Minion [card game] - unplayed

Exploding Kittens [card game] - played a bunch, largely moved on

ADAPT [card game] - unplayed

OrganATTAK! [card game] - unplayed

Bears vs Babies [card game] - played a bunch, still relevant

Mythic Arcana [card game] - IN PROGRESS
-----------
So admittedly I've got a pretty poor record of actually doing anything with my gaming KS, unless the game itself is accessible and self-contained (SDE and hopefully Deep Madness/HATE), my wife wants to play (see Oatmeal card games), or I have a clear goal in mind for the minis and am able to keep busy while waiting. Really need to push on the TGG2 stuff and make it happen, just really burning out on the building step of army painting right now, and Raging Heroes can have a pretty brutal build phase (that begins with the clean phase )

But yea, overall I'm definitely trying to slow down on the kickstarting, or at least certainly gaming ones. I'm past capacity for hobby and gaming time as it is

I stayed away from Kickstarter for a bit but a few small campaigns sucked me back in, and their successful completion has led me to back more recently.

Here is my list:

  • Court of the Sultana by Effincool Miniatures: Late but regular updates and I am not worried about fulfillment. It looks like it will happen at some point.

  • Wreck Age: Post-Collapse Vehicles by Hyacinth Games: Late but now fulfilled

  • Dungeon Scenery by Johnny Lauck: On time (or close to) and fulfilled, excellent, no-hassle campaign.

  • Wild in The Streets Roller Derby Girls by Slow Death Games: Late but regular updates and fulfillment is imminent.

  • Ghosts of Gaia Two by Bad Squiddo Games: Late, still waiting on fulfillment.

  • Skulls and Bones by RBJ Games: On time and fulfilled, excellent, no-hassle campaign

  • 28mm Amazons by RBJ Games: In Progress

  • Zombicide: Invader: In Progress

  • So, about par for the course. Most were late, but are fulfilled, or in the process of fulfilling and no projects seem like vaporware so I am fine waiting.

As the closet accumulates I am trying to back down a bit. The list right now for gaming items looks like the below. The TLDR version would be lots of delivered projects to my satisfaction, a couple of duds that I was able to get some money back on (FOREX conversion each way is unfortunate and eats up some value) and a pending pile that appears to be on track.

    Delivered

Dragon Empire Tabletop Army (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1084608523/dragon-empire-tabletop-army) Somewhat late but not too bad, very happy with what I received.

Reichsguard Knights (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/lastsword/reichguard-knigths) Nice little project.

March Of The Dead (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/98300108/march-of-the-dead-28mm-fantasy-undead-miniatures) Not everyone's preference in sculpting perhaps but I am very happy with what I received.

Undead Resin Collection V1 (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1463917927/undead-resin-collection-vol-1) I have the death knight, beautiful model.

Dark Sword Miniatures - Stephanie Law Masterworks (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/823962857/dark-sword-miniatures-stephanie-law-masterworks-ex) I have been a fan of Stephanie Law's art for some time, going back to the L5R CCG. I have this original from her (https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/l5r/images/e/ec/Shi-Tien_Yen-Wang_2.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20090819174830) and it is one of my favorites. Anyway it was great to get some of her stuff in miniature form, hopefully they go back with some more ambitious pieces someday (i.e. chariot from her tarot art).

Warbands Of The Cold North IV (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1103158358/warbands-of-the-cold-north-iv) Always happy with Red Box to date.

Kensei: Samurai (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1372111648/kensei-samurai-tabletop-wargame) Ended up getting an editing credit on the rulebook. Love the undead sculpts.

Data Targets: 3D Printing Objectives (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/rocketshipgames/data-targets-3d-printed-sci-fi-miniatures-objective) I was very happy with the objective markers I got out of this, wish they would do some more projects.

Renaissance Skeleton Army (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/23535743/renaissance-skeleton-army-28mm-miniatures-for-game) Fun line of sculpts, looking forward to the next batch.

Legend Of The Sacred Sword 32mm Chibi (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/770568564/sacred-sword-32mm-chibi-miniatures) Good value, got lots of fun little models out of it.

Hot & Dangerous (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1263001724/hot-and-dangerous) I disliked most of the sculpts but there were a couple of not ridiculous ones that I ended up with.

Bears Head Miniatures Gallery Series (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/98300108/bears-head-miniatures-gallery-series) Always up for some undead sculpts. The Kitsune on Panda was also quite unique.

    Pending Fulfillment

Going Native: From Out Of The Mists (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2139148164/going-native-from-out-of-the-mists) Not sure if it will be 100% on time but the creator has a good track record so no worries for me at this time.

Reaper Bones 4 (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1513061270/reaper-miniatures-bones-4-mr-bones-epic-adventure) Reaper has a long history, not worried in any way as this progressed towards delivery.

DIehard Miniatures: Undead Rising (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/diehardminiatures/diehard-miniatures-undead-rising) More undead, should be shipping soon.

Heroes 32 mm (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1209763618/32mm-fantasy-miniatures) Still a long way from planned fulfillment (September) so no particular worries at the moment.

Freyja's Wrath (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1512506318/freyjas-wrath-dark-age-and-fantasy-28mm-shieldmaid) Should have a giant pile of cats and other critters coming my way soon.

Kensei: Wako vs. Namban (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1372111648/kensei-wargame-wako-vs-namban) In for the Namban starter, delivery projected in September so still a ways off. Second time with this creator, no worries based on the outcome of the first.

Red Box Games - Warbands Of The Cold North VI (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1103158358/warbands-of-the-cold-north-vi-ulfhildrs-heroes) Sat out V but happy to back some additional models more to my liking.

Northmen 32mm (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/404694339/northmen) Seems to be coming along for June delivery.

Bears Head Miniatures - Wilderness Encounters (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/98300108/bears-head-miniatures-wilderness-encounters) Third project with this creator, looking forward to the undead rhino and tiger arriving in a few months.

Chibi Capsule (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/674003445/chibi-capsule-magical-girls-and-monsters) Recently funded, Impact! was the caster for another project I backed that went well and they have a long history on the platform so no worries for me.

    Failures

    Frazetta Miniatures (
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/killboxgames/frazetta-miniatures) Got a refund out of them. Would not do business with anyone associated with this project in the future.

Salvation and Steel (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1036171223/salvation-and-steel-28mm-fantasy-skirmish-miniatur) I think this one is actually getting towards for fulfillment. It was very late and I was able to get a refund when they announced a new campaign with this one unfulfilled. Would consider purchasing from them depending on what their delivered products end up looking like.

Kingdom Death : Monster is my only active KS. Sadly, Wave 3 (Gambler's Chest) is delayed until next year, not that I don't have enough on my plate, but still...

Journey is still in the background, but not having a bunch of KS to worry about is pretty nice.

I almost backed The Hunters, but ended up passing, as I have enough stuff. LOL.

My list is reducing and I've only backed 1 project so far this year

    Delivered
    ASOI&F
    Everlasting Wet Palette
    Zombicide Green Horde wave 2
    Terrain crate

I still have 5 due in full

Zombicide Invader is not due until next year
KoW Vanguard should be done by October
Assimilation Alien Host - Tom from Impact! is sorting me out so that should be clear shortly (its only been 6 years!)

Then the 2 problem KS/crowd funders

Super Dungeon:Legends and HQ25 I haven't written them off yet but it's not looking good for either.

    Still due in part

    Kingdom Death wave 3 & 4
    Star Saga wave 2
    Journey wave 2
Myth wave whatever it ends up being - I'm waiting for everything to ship at once.

That's the lowest level outstanding stuff I've had in a while by the years end there should be at least 3 more done although I may add Fireforged Games Forgotten Worlds depending on the price.

Mantic still automatically gets a pledge from me, but otherwise I rarely back anymore, and I was a big backer back in the first wave - Bones 1, Relic Knights, etc.

I'm happy with all the product I've received but there are too many games to play them all.

In addition, it feels lately just keeping up with GW's pace of major releases is equal to keeping up with Kickstarter in its strongest days.

    Posters on ignore list: 36

Gangs of Nu Ork - Necromunda / Gorkamorka expansion supporting all faction. Feedback thread here

This is probably the primary reason I’ve only backed 1 KS this year, during the Kirby years I bought little to no GW product but recently I’ve bought everything Necromunda, AoS Soul Wars plus enough Stormcasts and Nighthaunts for 2000 Pts. of each, Killteam and the AT ruleset. So my budget hasnt changed it’s just gone elsewhere.

Once they are 'finished', they do in fact get moved to the 'appropriate' forum, and that seems to work well.

And if you're interested in any of them, and you've 'subscribed' to their threads here, they're easy to keep track of that way too.

The Kirby years got me out of the habit of buying GW product. If my group were playing more actively, I'd probably get the new rules.

My Kickstarter History has been mixed? (in no particular order)

Dwarven Forge (1st Plastic KS): Paid, received, happy.

Zombicide - Black Plague: Paid, received, happy.

Massive Darkness: Paid, received, sold off --- made a profit (not interested in the game by the time I received it)

Conan Board Game: Paid, received, sold off --- made a profit (not interested in the game by the time I received it)

Blood Rage Boardgame: Paid, received, played and sold off --- didn't keep my interest. I sold it for the same I paid the KS for to a buddy.

Mantic Dungeon Saga: Paid, received, sold off --- an absolutely gak product. Don't recall if I made my money, but no more Mantic KS for me.

Robotech: Paid, received 1/3rd, the rest of the money was stolen by Kevin Siembeda. Loss: $250+ (I had about four starter sets worth if I recall)

Hero Quest 25th: Paid, and never received a thing (risky and somewhat expected). Loss: $150

Of the two which I lost money on, the HQ25th was a genuine risk, and I knew that paying the money. Robotech, I expected a lot of backtracking, but not outright thievery. I'm sure I've forgotten a few KS, but generally my experience has been good with honest/competent companies. Dungeon Saga was absolute ass, but that's not KS's problem...and I'm pretty sure I made my money back selling it off. What's amusing and notable to me is that the two that I robbed on are the two I was most interested in, so obviously some nostalgia/emotional purchasing there. At tht time there was little reason to not trust Gamezone, and I hadn't followed the general shadiness of Kevin Siembeda, asshat extraordinaire...so it is what it is.

It's personal opinion, but the quality was just so woefully uninspiring. Crap plastic quality, loads of bent and broken miniatures, cheap card stock on the materials, a lazy and cheap rulebook/pamphlet etc. It felt like a cheap Chinese knockoff board game. I sell game components for fun, and as a hobby...and when my self-designed materials end up better quality than a large company like Mantic...it gives me serious pause. I know Mantic was founded on "cheaper than GW", but I've never been so disappointed with the quality of materials in the entire box as I was when I opened Dungeon Saga.

It was on eBay in less than 4 hours after I opened the box. The quality level of high-dollar board games (with similar miniature counts) has been far higher.

Thanks. What dungeon delving miniatures game would you recommend? I have Descent 1st Ed., but would like a more modern game with co-op option and more modern miniatures.

We've had a lot of fun playing Shadows of Brimstone, so we are looking for something similar in the fantasy genre.

    Good luck, unfortunately. :(

That's the holy grail no one has smashed yet. I would suggest Massive Darkness (a Zombicide in all but name) but the minis are silly and even though I own it, I'd rather play Zombicide Black Plague instead.

I've tinkered with creating my own dungeon crawl for...gah...15+ years. There are a lot of small time dungeon crawl games that I've seen people play, but there isn't a super strong candidate that everybody swears by.

There are loads of fantasy skirmish games, but few dedicated co-op dungeon crawls. You can find all of the materials for Warhammer Quest online but it's awfully clunky (if quite good). As a boxed game, that was the high water mark for me --- back when GW put loads of content into a game, even stuff they weren't selling.

I can't comment on Dungeon Saga as a game (only played with the Beta rules a few times), so maybe the rules are quite good, I simply felt the materials were wasted on me when I received it. You may want to research it and see if people love the rules?
