Great work on the cannoness. It’s good to see that her flame goes the correct way! . Her sword is quite nicely done too, with the fade on opposite ends. The banner looks fantastic, really nice highlights you’ve achieved already

OMG, that canoness is the real deal, how do you paint such intricate details on the face? Banner is also coming along nicely and in size absolutely fitting for religious fanatics

Thank you Tallonian, and welcome to the blog! I'll hopefully have an update on the banner bearer soon

Thanks youwashock She was a lot of fun to paint, and yes I thought the banner seems almost made for the SoB!

Hahha, yes! Hot on the inside, cold on the outside, just as a flame should be Thank you, I've been trying to practise painting that contrasting effect on the blades in the army, slowly getting better with it. And thank you, I'm quite pleased with the banner so far.

Thank you Viterbi! Hahah, with a tiny brush of course! The face has really nicely sculpted details which helps a lot as well. And yes a big heavy banner seemed only right for the forces of the Ecclesiarchy.

I haven't had quite as much time for painting the past week or two in the meantime some reinforcements have arrived. My Vostroyan Firstborns have been patiently waiting for their time in the limelight and whilst I had the constituents of the force planned out I hadn't acquired all of the pieces, namely the tanks! Two Chimeras, a Leman Russ and three Sentinels are now patiently waiting along with my coveted metal Firstborns. I was lucky to pick them up a number of years ago when GW still sold them and recast weren't rampant. I have yet to paint any of them up but they are next in line after my Sisters of Battle.

Reinforcements have arrived!

I also mentioned a few posts ago that I was thinking of taking some updated pictures of my long neglected Ultramarines. Along with the Terminators I had started this blog off with a picture of my Venerable Dreadnought. Although I painted it three or four years ago I'm still relatively satisfied with the paint job. The purity seals and base will be redone at some point. But that can wait.

My Venerable Dreadnought in a slightly better light! Aside from the base and purity seals I'm pretty happy with my old paint job.

The Army Standard Bearer is still a work in progress so hasn't quite made it into this update but stay tuned, she should be making an appearance soon.

Thanks for stopping by.
Until next time,

Thanks gobert, its a great old model. The Vostroyans won't be too large a force. If they ever come back as Made to Order I'll probably pickup a few more models.

Hello again! When I said last post that the SoB Army Standard Bearer would be making an appearance soon I didn't quite mean two months, but better late than never!
Life has been busy busy so not as much time to paint. I have also made some new acquisitions over the past two months which may see the Vostroyans pushed back... But more about that next time. For now, my Army Standard Bearer is done! I am pretty pleased with her. I had the idea for the conversion many moons ago and was looking forward to painting her up. A good opportunity to practise painting scrolls as well!

My Army Standard Bearer. The old Bretonnian Questing Knight banner fits right in!

I hope everyone has had a good year in amongst all the pandemic craziness.
Enjoy the holidays.

Excellent standard bearer, the conversion matches the styling of the old sister's sculpts and is well weighted visually, great work!

Are you planning any henchmen conversions for your inquisitors or will they be played straight from the box? I'd be interested to see your take on the retinues with these fantastic conversion skills

Thanks ValhallanWinter and welcome to the blog! Very kind words. Ah yes, the inquisition! They are certainly on my hobby horizon. I fortuitously picked up Inquisitor Cortez and his retinue as well as the unnamed Witch Hunter and his retinue when they were still being made (in metal) so have been looking forward to painting them up. I am planning to keep the models pretty vanilla however. I've seen some amazing retinue conversions but my love of the old sculpts outweighs my desire to make a wild and whacky war band.
--

Painting progress has been slow. I've been working on the last infantry models for my Sisters. Due to the age of my collection some parts have unfortunately gone missing or been damaged in one way or another. To remedy this I purchased some BlueStuff. I had seen it pop up here and there on Dakka and on YouTube and it seemed like an interesting (and useful!) product.

After a bit of experimenting and a couple of attempts I got some okay casts sing Green Stuff. The sword hilt has been basecoated and it is looking surprisingly good. I haven't done the backpack yet, I think this will be the real test.

One of my Retributors was missing a backpack and one of my Howling Banshees was missing a sword hilt.

Now you may have noticed something rather unusual about that second image. Yes that is in fact an Eldar. I don't know what I'll call my blog now

I haven't mentioned my Eldar before as for the longest time my collection consisted of a single squad of 3rd edition Howling Banshees. I had always loved the models and had them just because. However, recently I decided that they needed some friends so I scoured the webway and ended up placing a rather large order with the Troll Trader in the UK. The models are a mix of 3rd and 5th edition, mainly Aspect Warriors and some HQ. I plan on expanding the force with some vehicles and troops down the track but this is a project for the distant future...

Supplies!

No new hobby updates unfortunately. The holiday season kept me occupied with other things. Hopefully this year I will manage to finish off my Sisters of Battle. There are still a few old models I need to strip and repaint, namely Saint Celestine and a Penitant Engine. After that there is just a few more infantry and then my two Inquisitor squads. And all the vehicles. But the vehicles may have to wait... The Eldar beckon from the webway

I hope you all had a safe and happy holiday period.
Happy New Years! May 2022 smile kindly upon you all

Well, well, well. When I posted my last update I certainly didn't intend for it to be my last before the ensuing radio silence. But alas, life got busy and before I knew it one month had become two, two became six and then a year had gone by and before I knew it almost a second year had gone by! 2023 saw me move overseas and sadly my hobby gear didn't come with me. It may be some time before I am back in front of my painting desk but I didn't want to let the blog go beyond two years without at least some small update (thanks for the prompting snrub ). So here I am!

Despite not posting any updates here in many a long moon, there was some hobby progress over the past two years. Most of this was on my Vostroyan Firstborns with nearly two infantry squads now painted. I have included the first sergeant I painted up for one of my two squads as a little teaser. I also made a small start on my Eldar by painting up some of my favourite models of all time, a squad of the 3rd edition Howling Banshees. After some trial and error on a test model, I managed to get a scheme that I was happy with and I think matches the Studio scheme quite well.

The first of my Vostroyan Firstborn Sergeants. Quite the moustache!

The first squad for my Eldar and some of my favourite models of all time: the Howling Banshees!

As mentioned above, it may be some time before I am back in front of my painting desk. But in the meantime, I have been keeping a lookout for old Warhammer models and sourcebooks from my bucket list and picking them up when I find a good deal. I have also been keenly awaiting the re-release of Warhammer Fantasy and have managed to get my hands on a few old metal models which may one day turn into an army or two. I used to collect Bretonnians and Beasts of Chaos back in the days of 6th Edition and have always wanted to jump back in. So these are exciting times!

I hope you enjoy this small update and apologies for my long absence!

I hope you’ve all had a great start to 2024.
Until next time,

Thanks mcmattila, looking forward to sharing more when I am back at my desk I was really happy with how the Banshees turned out. There was a bit of colour variation between photographs I could find of the studio scheme, so took a bit of experimenting. The bone armour especially took a bit to figure out.

Well its official, I am diving back into the Old World! I took the plunge and purchased some of the Made-to-Order Bretonnian and Tomb King models. I haven't received them yet and even when I do it will be some time before they get a lick of paint, but I am looking forward to some fantasy goodness. I have also being eyeing the beautiful terrain from Tabletop World.

Speaking of terrain, I recently acquired another piece of Forge World's old Cityfight range, the Censorium, for a decent price on eBay. It will take a bit of clean-up but that's all part of the fun
