The Northmen in my opinion are the best heroic scale fantasy human infantry on the market. No crazy mono-pose "multi-part" infantry that is GW's M.O at this point. You get what you want for line infantry, similarly posed, not overly dynamic, a true multi-part kit to give just enough subtle variation between each model to keep a block of infantry interesting, but all preforming the same relative task. Plus a choice of spears or swords, and command sprues a-plenty.

Yea but only 12 models a box......

That said, fireforge just posted some potentially inflammatory stuff on thier Facebook page.

Ooooh, some fresh, spicy drama fresh from Zuccbook, what did they post?

I don't see anything inflammatory about that.

That said. Archon have in-house casting in Poland and their Kickstarter prices are about 1€ a sprue and presumably their workers also get to eat (at European prices), so how much is everybody else fleecing us?

Lord Marcus seems to have a connection to Wargames Atlantic (from that thread) and they outsource to China for manufacturing. Bit of a spat between rival companies? I don’t really see the issue with what was posted.

I suppose if you were a Chinese person, or worked for a Chinese plastic manufacturing company, that could be seen as inflammatory.

No, there's nothing really inflammatory here. It's a basic argument to justify your prices and also talk about their own principles.

the 12 models to a box, is the only thing I really dont like. But the models are great so I am ok with it.

If they are referring to Wargames Atlantic, thats a shame, since I love wargames atlantic as well.

I dont think the statement about chinese manufacturing was anything really terrible, but i can see how a company that does use chinese could take it as such.

I havent heard back about my suggestion for the left handed pistols. I even photoshopped a picture for them.

Now ill just build them as longbow-men and use these as hand gunners. Yay.

Have you seen the upcoming Wargames Atlantic Conquistadors? They should fit well with the Northmen, as the guy who designed them also designed the Northmen for Fireforge. I planned on using them as handgunners for my Northmen... I may still, but I am kind of planning a full conquistador army in addition to my northmen...

It will depend on how big the Conquistadors are, but you could probably just use Northmen heads on them and they would all tie together.

I like it, but I wish there was a second left hand gun option as I think all the same left hands will look a bit wonky in an otherwise diverse unit.

I definitely agree. especially since the pose on the left handed pistol appears to be straight out to the side.

I thought the advantage of plastic was that once you paid for tooling, each individual sprue was very cheap, giving plastic the power of scale. Scale means you can make your box a better deal by throwing in twice as many sprues/minis for very little additional cost, making your product more attractive to buy. These are not resin minis. So, limiting the box to 12 minis seems more of a calculated move to get customers to buy more boxes to fill an army rather than trying to entice customers to buy more boxes because they’re great value. I don’t like that.

Yeah, there was a discussion about this on Fireforge's old thread here. They claimed the price of sculpting and what not for fantasy was more expensive than Historical sets... and there are more options... so the price had to be higher to recoup costs... which is why only 12. I admit I am not really familiar with what costs are... so I am not sure its a valid argument... But I like the figures so? But this is a reason I have only gotten them through Kickstarter... as the discount makes it go down easier.

Well, just remember these models are game agnostic, so they can be used for more than just Kings of War. One box is plenty to make a warband of Dwarves for FrostGrave or other skirmish games. Also if Mantic still allows for 50%+1 for basing your units this has more than enough figures in a box.

Though I am now interested to see what the future orc box will be. Fireforge had said the orcs would be a horde type army, and have 18 in a box, like the militia townsfolk had... but... that was before the Orcs became Primaris... so will it still be 18... now larger orcs? or will it be 12... or will it be less because they are bigger.. Hmmmm

They could save a bit of money with the kickstarter if they just throw the sprues in large cardboard boxes instead of retail boxes. Then again I think Mantic tried that a long time ago and there were counting issues.

Shieldwolf did that with the shield maidens in their shield maiden kickstarter. It probably worked ok, but i was never sure if I got the right amount of figures...

Fireforge did it too, for the peasants as the boxes were not ready and there was some delay/issues with some orders in that kickstarter. Most of my order came in wave 1, and then the peasants in wave 2. They were just in plastic bags, and it was not a big deal... but because of some issues I seem to recall people making a big deal. Not sure if it was about that though.

Mantic... it was the basaleans (sp) the paladin guys, the goblins and the ogres. The humans... well the bags were not something i minded. The only part i didnt mind... The ogres and goblins were fine though.

I have a connection yes, but my comments were personal. If I have to add a disclaimer to everything I post I will put something in my signature.

There was nothing directly inflammatory in the statement. However, it seemed they were implying the idea that others outsource their production capacity is a bad thing, which I see no good reason to do so.

Hence my personal statement.

Stormcast eternals

I haven't seen those Conquistadores until now, they look great, I just dont think they'll match the Northmen's size. I hope they do though. Either way I have two potential options now, thanks for the tip!

Actually, they're not game agnostic. Fireforge Games launches his own game Forgotten World with this series of new fantasy plastic kits.

https://fireforge-games.com/start-here-55

So the reason why they're multiple of 6 may be not just a whim.

I know, people like to dismiss their game as not relevant, but fact is : their Forgotten World series miniatures are made for their own game. Even though they still give options for using all kinds of other games with them.

I don't really think it was personnel from their own part either. It's like having a company taking pride they produce everything in their own country and justify their prices by saying "well we use our country's legislations, we're not trying to save costs at any cost by outsourcing in foreign countries where you know there are problems with how they treat/pay their own workers".

It's also a way to distinguish yourself from the others being cheaper.

And TBH...they're not wrong, here. It has a cost to produce everything in a country that you know respect basic rights for workers or current legislation in EU. In comparison to others that don't do that.

You are correct. The 'cult' of Gothic hit Poland and Germany most of all, but has a large following in Russia and the UK. It did not cross the pond because most minds didn't look further than Elder Scrolls hype and poor distribution. I don't even know if the game was officially localised into Polish. The Russian translation is a mod, and while all three games were localised officially into English and it has some penetration of the UK market it never went further than that.

 BobtheInquisitor wrote:
Huh. Never heard of it.

I’m kind of disappointed he wasn’t talking about some old gothic horror book, perhaps The Strange Case of Doctor Sniprot and Mister Gorguts.

Don't be disappointed, follow this five step plan.

1. Watch these videos:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kSc-WRl-0pM
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVYrALStucs
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4g7WQcEXcc

2. Buy Gothic 1, Gothic 2 and expansion, & Gothic 3 on a platform of your choice. They are older games so they should not cost much. Don't bother with Gothic 4 or the expansion to Gothic 3. Different company made them.

3. Update them here: https://www.worldofgothic.com Don't try and play them vanilla.

4. Go missing for weeks as you get deep into Gothic.

5. Thank us after.

You mean this:
"Every day we receive an email from a chinese company, represented by an employee with an english name, who proposes to make the molds for our products at an off-market price. Professional companies, who have experience in creating miniatures and scale models (from wargames to board games) that can provide a job at a price 90% lower than that provided by western companies.
There are UK and US companies in scale models and board game market that have decided to make of chinese low costs their strength.

And I've backed. could not resist those goat riders.

I've got a load of their undead, and being HIPS with all the extra bits to customise your models is so good.

I'm also very impressed they did a "choose your sprues" option, in case you don't want all the command sprues with every box (which is great because I don't want any command sprues!)

The command sprue picture I shared was wrong. There arent any torsos on the command sprue. Fireforge just advised in the comments. The sprue picture in the kickstarter is accurate... just extra legs no torsos.

Hm, I never thought about using them for Frostgrave. I was originally going to skip this for no other reason than the style wouldn't fit all the much more high fantasy Dwarfs I have, but that Not!Runepriest would make for a good Wizard, nevermind the regulars as Soldiers/Knights...
