I know what you mean, I'm not a total convert but I do see how out of proportion classic marines are now and I can't unsee it. It's also future proofing. But thanks, glad you like them.

Nevelon wrote:Great progress!

Thanks!, there's more!

I've finished this squad of 5 now...

Squad pic..

Sargeant Fisty-pants...

Stripes to denote rank, I added a little shield thing to his bolter too. I considered adding another to his fist, perhaps with a 'U' but don't seem to have done so, do you think it would be better?

Added some thin brown as mud to his legs too.

Grenady guy...

'Thmffffff' Pleased with his face.....

When viewed from this angle I wonder if I should raise his bolter arm a bit? It's odd how big the AGL looks too, considering it's supposed to go on a IG trooper. The arm holding it is one of the pointing arms from my easy build Sargeants.

These 3 previously completed guys got the mud added and some scratches too, done by thinning one of the highlight grays quite a bit...

Another group shot, bit small here better to click through..

I hope you like these guys, I'm happy with them but am still improving my highlighting to get a better finish, I'm getting there.

I'm back from holidays now and hope to get on with my Eliminators who are next up, so more on them sometime.

Squad looks great.

The bolter arm on the AGL guy is fine. He’s obviously letting hang down while focusing on the AGL.

Thanks! The new brushes are definitely a bonus, really help keep the paint in check.

Glad you think so, I think from the 'intended viewing angle' he looks OK and only looking at him from unsanctioned viewpoints makes it seem odd. So that will be punishable by mind scrubbing.

Not had much time with one thing and another did manage a bit today, mostly converting arms on a Eliminator, pics soon. I did accidentally buy a Venerable Dread off eBay so that's a thing too. Whoops!

Howdy.

So the Eliminators have begun..

I wanted the Sarge to have this Intercessor arm..

So I shaved down the arm with the cool casio calculator watch and cut down his proper arm to just a shoulder pad that I then scooped out and filed the interior of...

I then GS'd it all together 'seamlessly'. I also added a cross draw pistol holster with purity seal and cut down the 3 stack ammo pack to a more manageable 2.

I had to fill in the back of his cloak too..

I built a little wibble onto his gun arm to help alter the angle to get it all to fit.

I've some bits like this column capital laying around and I think it will make a nice base decoration and will help blend them into my KT OG boxed set ruins that form the basis of my terrain set.

This next guy involved a lot less faffing. I, again, cut down his ammo thing to 2 and also removed the attached, massive medal/purity seal thing. I repositioned the head so he's looking at what he's doing too..

I think it make's his pose a bit more natural..

The last guy had the ammo trim as per the others, a normal seal added to his belt and a knife to his boot so he's all special forces-y....

More bits of KT terrain. Makes them more unique and they will be hiding in it most of the time..

I used GS to change the angle of his head and arms so that he's actually looking down his scope, rather than next to it...

I will spray them as soon as I can. Then I'll undercoat them. I'll get my coat.

The Ven Dread arrived and I've been tinkering with that. I totally failed to notice it doesn't come with a Missile Launcher. Cock. I've checked the parts shops and, shockingly, they are all out. Ebay had one added yesterday, but it's already getting up there in price, I may try to convert one out of the fist arm...

More soon!

xx

Nice work on the eliminaotrs. Building a few fireteams of them is on my to-do list.

I made a spare ML arm for my deathwatch dread out of a spare arm and a TML launcher from a speeder.

Well if you've definitely a spare, I could take one. I have started a conversion of one before I read this, see what you think of that but worst case I'd probably use it on one of my other Dreads (one has swappable arms). Let me know if you want to go for it in light of this new info (I've moved as well from the last time you sent me something).

Thanks, Elims are a rare bird in Primaris land in that they have good rules AND nice models. Now if I could only take squads of 5....

I started one last night incorporating a Repulsors Frag launcher into the fist arm. A Typhoon would probably have been a better call as I'm not sure the Frag has enough weight and that it may be too recognisable. I'll post some pics and you can all see what you think of the conversion.

Those Eliminator models look great. Your extra work is really worth the added time.

Nice conversion work on the Eliminators! They are on my list, when I'll flesh out my marines second half of the year. Even if they'd perform bad, they just look to cool to miss.

Thank you. They look good and perform well so you don't hamstring yourself bringing a pretty unit. Not that I mind doing that anyway. I don't use Cents and Aggressors, even though they are very good (esp. for Ultras) but I can't get over their ugliness (IMHO).

I did manage to get building my new Dread and do some pics...

Ta da. I'm not sure if I like the 'balcony' face plate thing. I appreciate the 'sword thru nid head' logo which saves me painting it on. Not sure about the 'church window' legs but the other leg plates have no where to paint stuff on and I plan to...

I wanted to build this into the 'Hellfire' configuration (TWLC+ML) for some nasty fire support but failed to realise that this kit doesn't include the ML (FML)...stupid powerfist..

So hacking off the fist bit gave this as a start point. No I needed a ML of some description, what kit might offer me one of those?

Now I'm not sure but I think the Repulsor set has at least one. I got these sprues from CONQUEST! which saved me about 50% on the new price, though I will need to build/steal/buy a base...

I like the anachronistic vibe off this one but ultimately too weedy I think..

Maybe...

Probably..

I hacked into the arm underside to shorten it a bit and then added the ML (well frag launcher). I then added the cable off the PF arm to the back. I decided to add another, the Imperium loves exposed vital cabling, and broke out my wire wrapped wire I'd suddenly remembered I owned. I cut a small bit and bent it into shape..

I added that on and did little GS end caps...

And it looks like this! I changed the face plate bit and one of his chest plates to a blank one with added Terminator Hons. and thoughts?

Side view. Is it a keeper (the conversion) or does it look too small/obviously a Frag Launcher/crap?

Answers on a post card.

My kid is selfishly getting a bit ill so I may not get much toy time in before a friend comes to stay on Tuesday but I may start on the Elims tonight as they have been undercoated..

It does seem a bit small, but It’s OK. It’s how you use it. (That’s what she said, etc)

Of course, the giant box launcher on the arm of a dread has the same game effect as a little shoulder carried infantry based ML...

Yanno, I kinda like it. The 'real' box launcher is only eight missiles, and you have six, so that's close enough in my book. I think some decoration on the box would seal the deal for me, since he's a vendred.

Yes most 40k weapons are comedic-ly large (oooh eer readers) and the big box (I say) launcher used to have the 'salvo' option to fire D3. There's no reason for it to be so large (that's what she said) anymore really.

Briancj wrote:Yanno, I kinda like it. The 'real' box launcher is only eight missiles, and you have six, so that's close enough in my book. I think some decoration on the box would seal the deal for me, since he's a vendred.

Yes I'm adding some 'seals and there will be stuff painted on. I think I'll stick with it, I think it looks more realistic. Though my BattleTech addled brain keeps seeing it and thinking 'SRM 6'.

Here are some more progress pics:

What do you all think of this alternate head? It's my spare Contemptor one. I like it but think it's maybe too large (innuendo etc), it's nice to see something different. I could chop down the area below it so it sit lower..in between his legs I added a little plate with chains with trophies to guard his robot junk.

OG head for comparison, also not sure of targetty bit added to the contentious ML, I wanted to 'disguise' it a bit..

I wanted it to have a fair few 'seals and used all of them off the sprue and couple more...

A few were added to the front and arm too.

Any input on these changes?

What size base is the repulsor on?
I've got to go to GW to order a base and one or two other bits if you want me to pick one up for you?
Just drop me a text or PM here.

I’ve never been a huge fan of the helmeted dreads. Walking coffin all they way. I do think the first helmet is a little to big for the space.

I don’t think there is too much bling and purity seals you can put on a ven dread. It’s like Dakka that way; never enough.

And you say SRM-6 like it’s a bad thing. But you do need to be careful not to cross the streams too much, or you start pedantically correcting people when they talk about “riflemen” dreads, as a true Rifleman would be TLLC/TLAC, not the 4xAC dreads people normally hang the name on. (and convert them with one on each arm, not doubled up: the correct way)

I’d say “what other mechs could we do” but down that road lies Tau. Filthy Xenos. With mechs and battlesuits. But filthy, heretical, well equipped xenos...

I know what you mean about the helmet Dread but I wanted it to look different and the coffin fronts can be odd on Vens.

I'd love that configuration of a Dread, proper Rifleman would be cool, I'd quite like one but this will (probably) be my last washing machine dread I think. And yes lets not get too 'Tau' as that way lies exterminatus. Contemptors are pretty much the best balance and they look like they could actually walk.

I've been stuck nursing my sick boy all week so no toy time. Maybe next week. I did put some basecoats on the Elims and am thinking of making my unloved spare Reivers into another squad (or even 2) of them. Means I could try out the fancy mini lascannon.

Stay in all the time? Not interact with people except through a computer? It's like I've been in training for this all my life.

Even so I've not managed loads recently, my kid being home all the time is a pain as I'm often too wreaked by the eve to play with my space mans. Here is some progress on the Elims..

Basecoated..

I did a wash on the green and then reapplied the basecoat..

Added Scorched brown and Rotting flesh areas...

Seen more here...

I shaded the cloak again and touched up the topmost areas (Oooh Err) and added the black fine lines as a final component of the camo...I think I may do a bit of Devlan in the creases later....

Conquest has finally ended but I managed to source the last 2 so I'll give the gantry thing a build soon, hopefully..

I undercoated this guy. I want with the spare Contemptor head in the end, I lowered where it sits in the canopy thing and I think now it's undercoated it doesn't stand out too much.

Hope to do some more soon, hope everyone is well and not too stir crazy already. Thankfully we have a tedious hobby that can swallow a, basically infinite, amount of free time!

Thanks! It's the same as I did on my Scouts and Reivers. I do the armour black too for extra sneakiness. I always chuckle when I see Imperial Fist units in bright yellow armour AND a camo cloak....

Viterbi wrote:Minis are coming along nicely, that is some good looking camouflage.

Glad you like it! I love some classic woodland camo, it's supposed to be British Army DPM.

Nevelon wrote:Nice to see some classic green camo. Don’t see as much of it around as we used to. Great job.

I'm bringing it back!

I've managed a bit more...

The armour has been highlighted..and I've blue tacked them together to see how they look assembled. There's a reasonable amount of big bits to go on their bases yet too...

I've washed the creases of the cloak with Devlan and will do another later..

In other news..

I built this thing...

I built it a bit differently, placing the top panels in a more logical location. I rotated the back 'legs' through 90 degrees and reversed the big skull thing. I thought it was a bit too grim derp. I'm not sure if the backwards version works and it's the only bit not glued, thoughts?

Further progress on the snipers......

Starting the green highlighting...

Here they have had the 2nd layer of green and the silvers done, I only need to do the faces, all the detailing and basing (only!)..

But they are getting there..

Need to decide what how to do the calculator watch...was thinking about OSL but nahhhhh....

I'm pleased with how they are coming together..

In a spot of retail therapy, I got this guy off the excellent 'Bits and Kits' along with a few arms and a bunch of bases..this is the planned build for the Sarge of a laser gun squad and I will use the bodies of 2 (of my 5) Reivers to make the gunners. The remaining 3 could even be converted into another bolt rifle squad down the line.

I think once I finish the sniper squad I'll do the Ven Dread anyway and then maybe the terrain...more soon, hope everyone is coping with all the madness.

Nearing completion now. The bases obviously need finishing and I think I'll do some flecks on the armour. I'm also thinking of doing some face paint like I did on my Reivers..not sure though.

Have finished these dudes!

Decided to go with a large bush (snigger). I'm now wondering if the foam type foliage would have looked better..added some light camo on his face, didn't want to obscure all the face too much. Or make it look like blackface.

Annoyingly slightly blurry, I added some mud splats with a sponge but kept it light. Also light scratches..

Camo seen better here. Also little terminal has text added...

Reloading guy. I like that his face looks slightly annoyed, like he's having a hard time getting the magazine out..

Ample shell casings suggests he's not using good sniper doctrine and displacing after a shot or two...

I like the little bits of wall they added to these sprues..

Guy actually shooting.

Someone had to be.

Nice camo shot that's a bit glare-y. I'm still considering another brown wash in the creases..

"Is THAT the time! I'm missing Love Island!" Group shot.

Shot with a bit of the terrain they will be using a lot. They are wearing the wrong camo for it. I will respray them...

I'm really pleased with these guys, even if it was a bit of a slog. They can hang out with my similarly attired Reivers whilst the Reivers guard the shelf in 'OPERATION GATHER DUST'. I'm looking forward to building (but not painting) my 2nd (and even a potential 3rd) squad of these guys.

I'll be doing the Ven Dread after these guys so that will start soon. Maybe the terrain after, will see.

Thanks for reading.
