Because these "leaks" are actually part of GW marketing and they'll show the Necromunda pages when they think we're good and ready.

Its strange having Necromunda being released so close to Shadespire. You would think they would allow each game some space to maximize the sales potential rather than possibly compete for the same audience dollar.

Oh, it's perfectly normal at this time of the year. When december is coming, it's good to have plenty of shiny nice games to put under the Christmas tree. That's how they will maximize the sales.

I think they're targeting different core audiences despite the overlap of them being GW games

game with mates for Necromunda

gaming with strangers in with a tournament style rule set for shadespire, a first for GW with the aim of getting a slice of the ccg (magic) and x-wing pie

and even if they do get less of a week 1 surge on both since both are more than splash releases (unlike Kirby era box games) most of the lost revenue will be picked up by later sales

WD usually only features releases for the first half of the month, so this just tell me that Necromunda will be preorder on the 18th with release on the 25th, likely alongside the terrain bundles that were leaked earlier this year.

2000 Khorne Bloodbound (Skullfiend Tribe- Aqshy)
1000 Tzeentch Arcanites (Pyrofane Cult - Hysh) in progress
2000 Slaves to Darkness (Ravagers)

Seems bizarre that you wouldn't feature the rerelease of Necromunda in your monthly magazine.

But HBMC, if they did that, we might see pictures of things more than two weeks before they're available to buy! I mean think of it; I know I have the attention span of a goldfish with dementia and no doubt almost everyone else is the same, if I saw pictures of Newcromunda more than a few days before it was for sale I'd completely forget it had ever existed, GW would lose out on millions.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

I have the current month's WD in front of me. The mast head at the end for next month specifically says Necromunda, along with new codexs and more shadespire.

I'm confused, haven't all the Necromunda photos been in WD last month and we're now having a bizarre gap between that and the release?

We've seen images of Necromunda months before it was (or will be) available for purchase.

No, people are suggesting that because no leaks yet. But as I said, having the current issue in front of me (the one all the necromunda photos were in), the November issue masthead, that is the next issue that the codex leaks are coming from now for eldar etc, says it includes necromunda in it, in fact, its the first thing listed for the November issue.

If anything, this shows that the leaks are GW orchestrated, leaving the most anticipated till last, a true leak would show necromunda content first.

It's almost like they said ages ago that they'd be featuring the prior month's releases in White Dwarf for the most part.

I like how everyone is immediately jumping for conspiracy theories or suspicion of Gw's behaviour rather than the most obvious answer that whoever got the leaked copy simply does not care about Necromunda.
We have seen parts of three pages of white dwarf which usually has at least 10 pages of new releases. I would not panic just yet.

The idea that someone has the new WD and hasn't taken photos of all the new stuff just doesn't seem right.

It goes against human nature. We like to brag and show up and be the first to do things.

No one gets a WD full of new release and goes "Nah. I'm good. I'll keep this to myself."

True but we also like knowing something others do not. Who here is not a little jealous of whoever got an early copy?
How many people on here over the years have said that they know something but don't share details?

I used to get WD pretty early -posted pics here on Dakka once or twice- but my subscription lapsed, so no juicy Necro info for me/from me. For all the evil GW does forcing auto-renewals on you is not their thing.

Personally I don't know what I should be hyped more about, Shadespire that might interest my brother as much as X-Wing or Necromunda which is THE best setting this side of the Old World *and* has new plastic kits coming that are at least great for conversions even if you don't like armoured Goliaths (me) or accuse the Eschers of having man-faces. If the rules for both games are actually good I'll have a pile of plastic under the tree this year...again. Their schedule is brutal. But I could live with drowning in unbuilt minis if they were to, say, release Warmaster and Epic infantry and cav in plastic. Looking at the Nurgle flies stuck to crappy smoke effects I'd say they could do it.

Looking for a Skaven Doomwheel banner to repair my Nurgle knights.

We know it's coming, but with GW the "when" is always a bit fuzzy.

They do dynamically flex their release schedule based on all sorts of factors. A push left or right for a couple weeks would not be out of character.

If Shadespire ends up selling well, I could see them giving it an extra week or two in the spotlight.

WD schedule isn't that flexible though. It's sent for printing 3 months in advance after all.

So whilst Necromunda could definitely have been pushed back, Shadespire being successful wouldn't have time to be responsible.

Out of curiosity, is this official?

I often hear people say codex and basically everything printed by GW is done months in advance because that's how the printing industry works.
I don't know the first thing about printing, but news magazines (some of which are similar to WD in terms of size/finish) are printed weekly with content from the previous week in them, so I don't get it.

It's what GW have always maintained. And it doesn't sound unreasonable.

Can I absolutely confirm it? No.

The bigger the team and/or the bigger the print run the easier it is to run a 'just in time' style of magazine

lots of team members mean you've always got content to plug in (it also helps if you don't have to plug anything specific which at the moment WD does at least to some extent)

having a very large print run means you're an attractive contract and your printer (if you don't own you own press) is going to be flexible about when your copy arrives, it's too much money to make a fuss about,

GW has mentioned this a few times in WD's letter section since WD went monthly again. They have to finish writing articles ca. 3 months before the issue's release.

Those periodicals own their own printers and make revenue from advertisers, GW pays a company to print it and does so on the cheap.

A lot of newspapers & news magazines will be printed locally to the country that produces them; they're only sold to a fairly small audience compared to WD which can have English versions shipped all around the world. If your printed product relies on communicating news ASAP, historically it was worth paying a premium to do that in-house rather than wait for shipping times from countries with cheaper labour.

Most goods sourced from China will have production leadtimes of around 45-90 days, and printed products will definitely be towards the upper end of that as they're not practical to air-freight*. However they're also much cheaper due to lower labour costs. In the past we've seen GW use Chinese suppliers for the bulk printing then have UK or US-based printing suppliers handle top-ups if they're short on stock. A great example was Shadow War Armageddon; the boxed editions of the game had rulebooks printed in China. When they ran out of stock, GW used a UK-based supplier to print an updated rulebook. This undoubtedly cost more than the original print run, but allowed them to get product in stores within a couple of weeks (while demand was still high) rather than waiting months.

GW definitely still source rulebooks and codexes from China on a long leadtime (at least 2-3 months). This means the codexes we're seeing now would have been finalised very shortly after (if not before) the launch of 8E. It's been a long time since I've bought a WD issue, so I can't tell you if they're still printed in China or not.

I can't believe we are this close to release and still have so little info to work with. It seems really strange that GW are finally bringing necro back, which seems to be something the community has wanted for a long time and GW give us the silent treatment. I know they aren't one for advertising but if they handled this well they could really generate some hype behind the release. At least tease some of the other gangs!!
