Adepticon 2007 ...

All I can say is WOW.  Those guys in Chicago know how to run an event... a BIG event ... scratch that ... They ran the largest miniature gaming tourney ever. (Really)

The team tourney alone had 360 gamers playing in 1 room.  Over the course of the weekend they gave away over $20,000 in prizes.   There were 3 40k Tounies, 3 Fantasy Tournies, a LoTR tourney and BFG tourney.  Not to mention seminars, classes, vendors, demos, and more.

I took over 1100 pictures, I've got to sort through them and then I'll start slowly blogging my adventures there.  Look for information to start trickling out over the next few days.

I was also pleased to meet more than a few of the regular posters here at Dakka, it's nice to be able to put a face to a name.

I should also mention that Dakka Detachment 1 did a great job.  They did the Dakka colors proud by taking home the "Headhunter" prize in the team tourney.  (They killed the most enemy HQ's)

Big thanks to team Bloid for giving me a bed, feeding me, and making me feel like part of the family.  And special thanks to the Adepticon staff for taking time to chat with me while running this stunning event.

Keep an eye on the Dakka front page for Adepticon details over the coming days.

OT Ninjas vanish!

Malfred, did you go to adepticon and make an OT ninja team?

If so, why did you become a turnrcoat and side with the ninjas? Pirates are far cooler of course.

I bet Yakface  forced you to be a ninja, didnt he? Damned sneaky ninjas.

Back on topic, nice to see that Dakka had a nice turn out. I live so close to chicago again and am ashamed I wasnt able to participate.

I really cant wait to read your more indepth review and see the oodles of pics taken there.

It was nice to meet you Russ. Saw you when you took pictures of my Word Bearers and my friends Eldar armies.

I was glad that my team tied for 6th and was the highest placing Eldar team.

BLOIDs Ork table was awsome, and was better than last years.

Current Armies: Blood Angels, Imperial Guard (40k), Skorne, Retribution (Warmachine), Vampire Counts (Fantasy)

Yeah I was there alright....hehe. It was cool to see a lot of faces from Dakka there. As always, I had a blast. My team Casus Belli took Best Team Appearance and placed 4th overall out of 90 teams. Not too shabby.

Yeah it was nice to meet you Russ. I had an awesome time and I can't wait to go back next year. The only sad thing was that Hellfury did not show up to talk to me about "scratch-built drop pods," I was really looking forward to that. Oh well, maybe next year.

Wow, Darrian. Youre as mature as ever.

Are you ever going to get over being wrong?
Or do you have to continue to make veiled threats on the internet?

Glad you had a good time. I'm actually really looking forward to reading about the results from all the tournaments and seeing the pictures.

From everything I've heard about the event it seems like if I ever was dedicated enough to get on a plane and go to an event for this hobby, Adepticon would be the event I'd go to.

Now get to uploadin!

Sorry I didn't get to chat with you more Capt K.  I did get some pics of your team's AWESOME tyranid volcano display.

Pics:  Some will be worked into blogs (such as coverage of the Bloid Ork Kraft Karrier, new GF9 products, the team tourny format, and my thoughts on the new GW Aircraft game) while most will go into the Dakka photos section divided up by the various codex types.  There are SO many great ideas in there.  The conversions and painting skills blew me away.  Many folks with excellent models said to me "At home people normally are blown away by some of my models, but here I'm just 1 of 20-30 exceptional armies."   The real scary thing is that even after 1100 pictures I still found myself realizing I missed stuff.

Darrian13:  How did you end up doing in the RTT on Sunday?  I had to leave before the end to catch my flight.

Hellfurry:  Several people asked about you, bummer you couldn't make it.  (And I was suprised that only half of them had tar and feathers.)   *JOKE*  that was a *JOKE*

Getting my broom incase there is shenanigans.

Dakka Dakka Detachment 1 came in 3rd place in the Team Tournament. Not to shabby for a field of 96 teams. So the last 2 years we have scored in the top for battle points (We scored the second highest battle points both years we have been together).

So the debate we are having is should we work on our soft scores and go for a better appearance and theme scores to compete for the top spot, or just kick back and try to crush everyone like we have been doing.

If you go for soft scores you'll have to change your
name to Bolter and Chainsword or something.

No, no. Let's not be silly here - we just have to LOOK better as we crush our enemies, drive them before us, and hear the lamentations of their women.

(We lost far more points on appearance/theme than it would have taken to clinch the overall. Wouldn't have needed perfects or anything, just a decent boost.)

I loved it last year, though. Awesome ork race track, crazy Chaos
display bases, multi-level cavernous BLOID stuff.

And then Dakka.

Four trays. Janthkin's models unbased.

Don't go to the dark side!

Yes, because I LOVE those "Bandwidth Exceeded" messages they put up in place of pictures.

Not playing to win isn't the dark side. It's actually much harder than winning

We upped our record to 3:4:1 this year. Yep. That's one more win that last year.

It does not seem to be an fibochi (sp) sequence Jankthkin, it's +1 win per year Two more years, we're a threat.

One question Russ, did anyone else from your area go as well? People like Evil Dewey Ennis or Craig Gallant, etc?

Just curious if this was like the old days where a bunch of locals made the road trip to game at Games Day and such.

@Russ, I went 3-0 in the 40K championships. Thanks for telling me that my second round opponent was the guy that had just won the Gladiator, nothing like adding pressure onto an already stressful game. You could have waited til after the game. :-)

Dude, they were SO based. It's just the very white-ish paint, with the very pale sand, was a bad combo.

Well, I just got back to home (and an internet connection - my folks, who live in the Chicago area, don't have one, and I can't go to Chicago without stopping in on pain of disownment).

Yes, there were actually 3 additional "local Dakka" lads that flew down: Jamie Hatcher, Ragnar (yes, your friendly neighborhood mod), and Christian Flores (aka theTinman/Alphalegionaire)

"Evil" Dewey has long since moved away. Craig Gallant is still around doing his insane modeling skills, but he is recently married and therefore could not escape. There may have been some other nonsense about work and commitment or some such drivel.

Did anyone get any pics of 2Oblit2Quit?  I didn't see their display, and I'm bummed because they won best theme.

If anyone has any pictures they'd like to share or e-mail me please let me know.  (webmaster@dakkadakka.com)

Thanks!
