Thanks ShadowsAndDust, it’s been great fun and I think I’ll be buying the stl’s for the expansions soon (the dice tower is really cool too!).

Today I got a bit of painting done over lunch and then a bit more after some work this evening. I managed to get all of the gold back to Retributor armour done on all 5, leaving them here;

I’ll get on with the highlights on the good next

I also remembered to take a pic of my Blackstone Fortress collection in its new resting spot;

I think it looks pretty cool. It’s still pretty busy on the boards so I’ll expand to 3 or 4 shelves when I sort out a new display area.

Thanks for looking

The Black Star Fortress stuff is just amazing. You have not only mastered the design it looks like they had your scheme in mind. You matched the paint perfectly.

The Void Panthers are a tremendous endeavor as well.

Thanks Theo! That’s high praise indeed, it took a while to figure stuff out, but I’m well chuffed how it all looks.

Thanks darkkt, the OSL on the Plague Marines was inspired by yours so, I’m pleased you liked it!

Still more bling to come, I’ve only blocked in with Retributor armour so far. The BSF stuff is only about 6 or so colours in the main but they mix together well.
Not Online!!! wrote:I really need that gold recipe
Good job on them!

Thanks Not Online, the gold is a GW recipe; Retributor Armour, Nuln Oil, tidy up raised areas with another layer of Retributor (where I’m currently at), next will be a volumetric highlight of Liberator Gold, then another of Stormhost Silver

Today I decided to have a day off as Mrs gobert went to the big smoke, so I was on school run duty and it’s been a busy week at work and I needed to decompress. So I spent most of the school day painting! I tidied up the black areas, then I got out the purple and reapplied that to the shoulder pads and helmets. Most of the time though was spent edge highlighting the backpack and the weapons, also with the purple.

I’ll tidy up the black next before I finish off the Gold and Steel bits before highlighting the black and purple bits. Then green will come out to play before I finish off details like parchments and the bases.

Thanks for looking!

Thanks Maharg, I’m glad you like the new terminology and the BSF stuff. I’ll try to remember to get a few photos in of the game.

More progress tonight, I highlighted up all of the purple and black on the marines. Those jump packs are a bit of a slog but I powered through. I should’ve gone to bed at that point but decided to power through and do the gold and silver highlights

I don’t think it came out quite as well in the photo, but I think this might be the best gold I’ve painted yet. I turned off one of my lamps and positioned the other where I wanted the light source on the mini to be coming from. The reflection on the Retributor then gave a great guide where to place the Liberator and Stormhost highlights, really boosting the reflectivity (is that a word!?!). I’ll break out the greens next, and will try to remember to get my last batch of tacticals out too as I missed some cables on them. Then it’ll be details before I go for a glow on the engines and finish up with the bases. Doubtful I’ll finish them before the end of the month but they should be done early Feb with any luck

Thanks for looking

Yeah, for me they’re going very fast! It must be the lunchtime painting I’m getting in. As for inspiration, I had originally considered copying ListenToMeWarriors’ Celestial Lions particularly after he did the Space Marine Heroes Series 1 guys. That quickly became a custom chapter that was linked to my BSF Chaos Marines. Their 2 schemes; Gold/Purple and Black/Gold are a bit Emperors Children and Sons of Horus (1st Company). I crowdsourced ideas for Chapter icons, with Theophony & Don Qui Hotep (not seen him on dakka for a while, say hello Don if you’re lurking!) setting me on the Panther theme and brushcommando putting forward Void Panthers for the chapter name. Quite a bit later I decided the Black vehicles and 1st company are because they’re mourning their Chapter Master after he was overtaken by a disease of Nurgle. That then led to a cult and eventually their fall.

Thanks Steve, the BSF stuff has very much been a labour of love.
youwashock wrote:Really coming together, now. Gotta love that shine.

Yep, they’re so Shiney! (Singing the song from Moana in my head)

Lunchtime painting got the greens basecoated and washed with old Ork Flesh wash. I also remembered to get out some old Panthers to do their green bits too. I then spotted their helmet pipe work wasn’t painted, so they got the Leadbelcher and Nuln like treatment. Here’s the Prowl of tactical marines;

Spot the newly painted bits…

Yes, I got them off the display shelf to paint their armpit cables!

After doing a bit of work this evening I made great headway on the Leap too. All of their green bits were finished, i neatened up the shoulder pad edges, got some Zandri on the parchments and even did the bases.

As you can see even decided to stick their jump packs on

There’s not much left to do; wash the parchment, paint the base rims black, figure out what to add to their bases so they don’t look ridiculously dull! I think some more colour is needed and maybe the dirt needs to be lighter to better match the Prowl? Dunno, any ideas?

Thanks for looking

Maybe try adding rust or verdigris to the metal of the bases for that extra colour that you're after?
To be honest I think a drab non-metalic base would better to contrast the shiny armour

They look absolutely awesome Gobert.

As for the bases, you could try a red/brown wash to the metal to better contrast the marines?

Maybe a different drybrush colour to the dirt like on your other lads.

Nice work gobert!

Agree with the others: a good wash, maybe even thinned down, might give that needed contrast between the base and the marines.

Much respect for the pit cables. I think bringing the bases between Leap and Prowl closer in appearance is a good idea. It was nice to revisit the genesis of the chapter, too.

Thanks Guardling, I think you’re right in drab contrasting the shiny, but the first Panthers were from the Space Marine Heroes box with really cool bases so I’ve tried to continue the theme using the Sector Imperialis bases. I have repainted them and I think they’re a bit better now, let me know what you think

I’ve tried to recreate by drybrushing like on the old, not quite managed a match but not far off now I think. As a few have suggested I might have to throw in some rust colours too

Another vote for the wash, I might have to go back now!

Thanks youwashock, I too enjoyed looking back at where the Panthers came from, glad I wasn’t the only one!
Not Online!!! wrote:Nice, armpit cables are annoying, often one forgets them... for no reason at all and only realises later that one has missed them

Yeah, they’re very much pointless and tucked out of the way, glad I got them anyway!
Viterbi wrote:Leap nearly done and they look amazing with their jump packs on. And good to see you go back to older minis to paint missing stuff. I tend to ignore my mistakes

Thanks Viterbi, the jump packs make them look much darker and more sinister, quite fitting I suppose given their fate! As for mistakes I struggle to ignore them, unless it means completely redoing some thing, the odd touch up is harmless though!

You might not be able to tell from the pic but I did some painting tonight;

Admittedly the painting was mostly lightening up the bases, which are now much closer to the previous squads. I did also paint the parchment, badly as usual! Then I made a start in the jump pack engines, starting with Khorne Red, Evil Sunz Red and a bit of Fire dragon bright.

I started one Marine with some Yriel yellow but the Fire Dragon wasn’t dry so it mixed a bit

I think it’s got a decent glow and will look better when I add some white to the centre. It is a bit sloppy in places so I might try to do some darker edge highlights to better separate some of the elements. I’ll hopefully finishe them at my next painting session.

Thanks for looking !

Cheers youwashock, hopefully you like the finished engines, which I think makes these guys done

Today was my non-working Friday (hurray for 9-day fortnights!) so post chores I snook in a bit of hobby time. After a bit of work on the Blackstone Fortress play area organiser , sticking off cuts of felt into some of the recesses (helping my wife to reduce her fabric pile of shame too!), I picked up the paint sticks. I finished up the Yriel yellow, applying a wash to the central recesses aiming to leave a bit of fire dragon still showing;

I then mixed some white and Yriel yellow and applied that only to the base of the engine outlets. I then dotted some pure white in the middle of the main outlet. I tried to better define some of the edges by going back in with Evil Sunz Scarlet. To finish off I tidied up the external surface by painting a layer of Leadbelcher on it.

That’s them pretty much finished, just a few bits to touch up mainly where I was sloppy with the engines… which was most of the work I did on them! I’m also thinking the jump packs are a bit dull looking. Do you guys think I should add some freehand Assault markings or maybe a small chapter symbol?

Tomorrow night, COVID permitting, I’m hoping to play some Blackstone Fortress with some friend. I’ll try to get some pics of the board and the play area organiser. I’m also midway through printing a dice tower which we’ll use too.

Thanks for looking, and I’ll try to get some decent pics if I finish tidying up the Leap.

That's the stuff. Looks quite good. Props for taking the care to stick to just the openings and leaving the metal areas defined. I don't think the packs need more. The minis are already a treat to look at. The black makes a nice counter to the gold.

That bright dot in the middle makes all the difference, exhausts look great! And would also leave the jump packs as is. Maybe look at the minis after two weeks and if you still have the urge to add to them, then you should do it.

And good luck on getting the game in, organizer looks great on thingiverse, very interested in seeing pics from your prints.
