Hello,

I placed a pre-order for TO games day on May 5th and in speaking with the person on the other end, he informed me that Krieg releases are still not done in terms of vehicles or characters (even from what we saw at the open day).

He also said the IA6 volume would be much more Chaosy with lots of vehicles and characters and daemons. Hinted at storm troops for Chaos and Daemon engines galore.  Basically the runious powers slam the imperials and push them back at the end of IA5

The reaver will be ready Q1-2008. If it sells well, (as has the Tau Manta) a Warlord will be considered.

Wif a grain of salt of course, plan can change.

I do a happy dance and save my pennies for demon engine swarm.  No matter what happens to Codex: Chaos Redux this Fall, my legion of spidery / smashy / killy doom engines will wreck havok on both my back account and mega-battles everywhere

The Reaver news left me wedged under my desk, but a Warlord maybe?

Somebody actually bought a Manta?!?!??!

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

I think it was in one of the FW newsletters where they said they sold 200 (or was it 400?) Mantas. Hard to believe people put down that much cash on a single model but they do. Of course with the Manta I think you also get all the units that go inside?

I heard it was 20 mantas. But if they do a warlord you know it'll be out of scale. They woun't make a 5 foot model.

But what scale though? The thing about titans is nobody can seem to settle on how tall they're supposed to be. That said, an Imperator Titan might be 5', but I doubt a Warlord would be. Some fluff puts them at about 45 meters tall and assuming that the average 32mm space marine fig represents an appoximately 2.25 meter tall marine then a Warlord model would need to be  640 mm or just over 2 feet tall which is a reasonable height considering how tall DreamForge's short-lived Leviathan models were.

On the other hand, Mike Biasi made a Warlord which unfortunately never saw production by Armorcast or Epicast, that I believe was much smaller than my estimate.

Now since we're talking about Forge World, and since they've pretty much set the scale with their Warhound which is a little over 10 inches tall, and keeping in mind that Reavers are described as being just under twice as tall as a Warhound while Warlords are 50% taller than Reavers, I think we can look forward to the Reaver being 18 inches tall at most, and the Warlord being around 27 inches tall.

Then again, Forge World has said that the Reaver "won't be much taller than the current Warhound", so I guess we'll just have to wait and see. But I think it's safe to assume that a Forge World Warlord wouldn't have to be 5' tall to still be at scale.

What gives you the idea that Warlords are 50% taller than Reavers. If you look at the Epic models you will find this is not the case. 50% heavier I could go with, but that doesnt mean significantly bigger.

A bit like Battletech, light mechs are only slightly smaller than assault mechs, but are much lighter and less well armoured.

With a 10" Warhound you could get a proportioned Warlord about 24"-30" tall, including carapace weapons.

My brother thought I was nuts for buying the FW Space Marine back in the day. Buying a Warlord would make me super nuts.

Hopefully if it sells they'll make a Leviathan.

I wrap myself up in tin foil and jump around the table, kicking everything out of the way that looks like it will go "crunch" beneath my mighty heels.

I'm not pulling those numbers out my ass - those percentages can be found in some of the old fluff. And don't ask me for a bibliography - I've compiled what I've found regarding Titan scales for my own modeling projects, but I didn't bother with noting my references. Some other sources put Warhounds at 20 to 30 meters (60-90 feet), Reavers at  40-50 meters (120-150 feet), and Warlords at 60 meters (180 feet).

Epic scaling isn't any more consistant than 40K scaling, but I see your point. My post was to point out how a Warlord wouldn't need to be 5 feet tall. The 2 foot mark was a maximum height according to some old descriptions. Now if you're implying that a Warlord could be shorter than 2 feet, I completely agree, although even by Epic standards I think anything under 18 inches would be too small for a Warlord.

I think that would be reasonable for an Emperor class titan in 40,000, but back during the Heresy, titans may have been classed differently.

The Warlord would be between 24-30 inches tall. It would weigh a ton. Basically the guy from Forgeworld says the firm is interested in producing kits, while expensive, appeal to modellers and gamers alike. Add detail and spice to a vanilla looking army. I mean look at the Manta (they sold 25 worldwide since its release), th thing is the size of a real life military drone and people have plunked down $2000k US for it. It's not much of a stretch for someone to drop $2000 for a reaver or Warlord. Imeprator, well, we'd be talking over 4 feet, but if people can afford it why not?

Geez, and here I thought maybe I was overshooting the height!

As ridiculous as it sounds (even to me), I would gladly drop two grand for a 2-3 foot Warlord. After all, while Space Marines and Aspect Warriors reeled me in, it was the old Adeptus Titanicus beetle-back plastic Warlords that initially piqued my curiosity in 40K.

More power to Forge World, but what's ashame is how GW gave Dream Forge the IP greenlight and then somehow managed to railroad them once their $500 US Leviathans were in production. Thankfully a few folks managed to snag one before it happened:

And for some size perspective of what that $500 got you:

That's the Blockhead by the way. The Crusader (my favorite) had a head identical to the old beetle-back and looked like this:

2,000K = $2,000,000

That's gotta be some model!

(I think that's more than an actual real life military drone costs.)

Why are you surprised?  You know what's better than using your IP rights to prevent your competition from releasing models?  Waiting until immediately AFTER the models are released, and THEN making them stop, thus preventing them from getting any return on their investment and possibly bankrupting them in the process.  Smart business.  Dirty, but smart.

How did they even do it legally? I mean, if they got the expressed written permission from GW, how could they even get by the evidentiary hearing?

Here's an example of a typical license agreement: http://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1057232/000117091807000324/0001170918-07-000324.txt

Notice any potential loopholes or ambiguities? Think you might be able to find some if you were getting paid $150 an hour to spend a few days looking for some?

It's likely not as cut and dry as it seems, and GW likely included any number of provisions allowing them to terminate the agreement if certain conditions were met.

Considering the mindsets of people GW would employ for this purpose, these conditions were probably along the lines of "If we feel like it".
