Hi Guys

I just recieved my copy of the third edition Confrontation rulebook. I sat down to start reading and was a bit shocked at the almost complete lack of fluff!!

I was hoping to spend some quality time getting to know the different races and characters ( as I was thinking about getting into Confrontation ) and zip, nichts, nothing!!! Just a few quick general paragraphs at the beginning basically saying these are th good guys, here are the bad guys and heres some neutrals....then onot a thousand different stats and rules!

I realised then how important the fluff really is, without fluff its just a boring rules book for playing a wargame.....VERY dissappointing.

On the plus side, how far above GW miniatures are Rackhams. Now of course this is all opinion, but "bloody hell" I knew Rackham had some fantastic stuff going on, but their miniatures make GW stuff seem like is was designed and produced by infants.

It would be great to get the Rackham designers working on the WH40K setting, now that would be awesome. The biggest plus point for Rackham over GW ( other than detail, pose, etc ) is scale, yes SCALE......its bugged me for some time now, and seeing Rackham pull it off has been the straw that breaks the camels back. I'm sick of GW pushing out minis that are away from the fluff....Marines the size of Guard, etc.....

So, what are your thoughts, am I smoking something or do you agree? and why?

Not going to get into the comparison between Rack and GW.  But, if you are looking for fluff (being converted from 40K to Confrontation, I was surprised at the lack of fluff) the best two books to get are the Dogs of War book and there is a fluffy book that comes with the Ragnarok box.

But, if you wait until Sept., Rack will be releasing their first "army books'.  The Pres of Rack said that they would have alot of fluff and the rules and such.

Just giving you the heads up.

Most of the fluff is within the cards and the Cry Havoc, so I would go for the Cry Havoc if you want fluff, all back issues are still available.

And the best part about just getting the 3.0 rulebook?

They already have 3.5 up on their website, with some pretty drastic changes that people are argueing about.

Wait! It gets better. They have also announced that they are merging the Confrontation and Ragnarok rules!

Confragglerock 4.0?

I did the same thing you did. Sat down with the 3.0 book last week, started reading. Then ran into 3.5, followed by the 4.0 announcement. /boggle

But for fluff, the Cadwallon books is also a good source. Complete with really cool translations that still don't make any sense, but add an air of 'otherlandyness' to the book.

So the next time I want my posts to sound "otherlandy" I should
run it back and forth through the babelfish, eh?

Thus the next year do my posts "otherlandy want me they sound this babelfish, eh it should it handles with the line?

One of the guys down at my games distributor thinks that they ran the Cadwallon book through bablefish from French to German, and then German to English, to get the lovely result that is the final product sold in the US. Love the art and figures, wish they had someone at rackham that spoke English good enough to proofread their stuff before sending it off to the printer.

Mikhaila's post shows some pretty drastic changes in the
rules in a really short period of time.

Not really if you look at the release of the french edition. Three years ago 3rd Edition came out, after 2,5 years 3.5 was introduced that consists of exactly on pdf-page and Confrontatio: Age of Battles is announced for end of 2007, so we have nearly 4 years between editions.

Re Cadwallon translations, it was actually translated directly from french to english and to be honest, the french version is as bad as the english, since then a lot of work has been done with regard to translations. German version of AT-43 should be the best, followed by english and french versions on an equal level. German being the third language it gets translated to (and being at the same time translated as the english) allows to include a lot of FAQ issues into the text that improves the whole book.

If it was a direct translation, then they really, really, need to hire someone that actually speaks english. If the french was that bad, then they need to hire someone that got past 8th grade.
