Today the local GW store held a 1500pt tournament to reseed their fantasy leaderboard and try and jump start some more participation. There were 8 players in all and each player played 4 games. I took the Chaos list that I had posted previously and here's how the day went

Game 1 - vs Bretonnians

Mission - Flank Attack - You split your force into two parts, your opponent then chooses which part starts on the field, the rest moves on in the remaining moves part of your first turn. Standard VP

Army List - He fielded - 8 x Grail Knights w Full command

2 units of 8 x Knights of the Realm w Full command

                                          8 x Knights Errant

                                          3 x Pegasus Knights w Banner

                                          Paladin (General) with Grail Knights

BSB with knights of the Realm

Damsel Lvl 1 with Knights of the Realm -Master of stone

Damsal Lvl 1 on foot - Beast Cowers

Report -  It was an open table with lots of ruins scattered about making charge lanes tight. I started with a chariot, one unit of hounds, one units of marauder horse and the chaos warriors.  I pushed the hounds up the left flank and brought the second unit of marauder horse in there to assist. the warriors advanced up the centre supported by the chariot, the right saw another unit of marauder horse supported by the second unit of hounds and the general's chariot. The Marauders marched on in the center and really didn't do much all game but spin from one way to another looking to get in to combat but never really being able to. I unleashed a torrent of magic in the first two turns - from fireballs to green fire to fiery blast to red fire, all of which accounted for exactly 1 grail knight. I ran down his damsel on foot with my screamers in the second turn and hit his Kinghts of the Realm on the left with hounds from the side, Marauder horse from the rear and a chariot from the front. They broke and I over ran into another unit of knights along with the general and the warriors. His right flank was blocked by terrain and a unit of marauder horse which prevented him from maneuvering.  It was basically a game of dance around the edges of his knights with my fast units to distract him and then hit him with the chariots and a flank charge. At the end of the game all he had left was one unit of Knights of the Realm who had spent the game chasing a unit of marauder horse around the table.

Result - massacre, good scores for comp, sportsmanship and presentation

Game 2 - vs Empire

Mission - Pride of the Enemy - you gained double vps for any enemy standards that you captured.

Army List -  This game was against a fairly balanced Empire army, he fielded

8 x Inner Circle Knights w full command

5 x Knights w Full Command

5 x Knights w Full Command

25 x Swordsmen w Full Command, 8 x Free company detachment

10 x Handgunners w 5 x handgunner detachment

2 x Cannon

Captain on Peagasus

Mounted Warrior Priest

Mounted Sorcerer w Rod of Power

Report - Deployment was Marauder horse and hounds on far left, warriors, the two chariots and Marauder foot in the middle and Marauder horse, hounds and screamers on the right. This game went extremely quickly, the hounds on the right faced the handgunners and were wiped out first turn, marauder horse charged the detachment and lost two to a stand and shoot reaction. Screamers ran down cannon crew. On the left the hounds were charged and beaten by the pegasus Captain who persued off the board, marauder horse charged a unit of Knghts beat them and ran them down slamming into another unit of knights in the flank. In the center the chariots pushed forward, both his cannons misfired and were unable to shoot for two turns, the warriors took a large hill in the centre and the two chariots charged and ran down the unit of swordsmen. His big block of knights charged and massacred the warriors sending them fleeing and then running them down. The marauder horse on the right lost to the detachement!, fled and the detachment persued of the board. The screamers hit the handgunners and were eventually beaten and failed their instability test. The second cannon balsted the General with a str 10 grapeshot which was deflected by the Golden Eye of Tzeentch (thankfully!) By the end of the game all that was left on the table was my two chariots and the marauder foot, He had the inner circle knights, a detachment and the pegasus captain. Other than the stand and shoot reaction, shooting played no role and neither did magic. It was quick combats and lots of overruns.

Result - Marginal Victory due to two extra banners and a table quarter. This was one of the most enjoyable games I have had in a long time, my opponent was a great sport and the batle went back and forth with both sides having very few models left at the end.

Game 3 - vs Empire

Mission - Order of March - your armies meet on the way to the battle, you had to create an order of march and each unit was deployed starting on one edge and moving towards the other

Army List

Game 4 - vs Empire

Mission - Treasure hunt - Objective is to kill or force to flee the table the most expensive magic item that your opponent possessed, doing so earned an additonal 250 vp

Army List -

So at lunch I was 2-0 and looking good in terms of generalship, comp, sportsmenship and presentation. After lunch I continued to face the empire (there were 4 Empire armies of the 8 players!)

Game 3 - vs Empire

Mission - Order of March - your armies meet on the way to the battle, you had to create an order of march and each unit was deployed starting on one edge and moving towards the other

Army List - Another balanced Empire force more focussed on infantry
5 x Knights
25x Swordsmen w Full command, 5 x Archer and 9 x Free Company detachments
25x Swordsmen w Full command, 5 x Archer and 9 x Free Company detachments
25x Spearmen w Full command, 5 x Archer and 9 x Free Company detachments
2 x Cannon
Warrior Priest
Lvl 2 Wizard
BSB

Report - This game was interesting only in the order of march scenario that we played. My opponent simply sat and waited for me to march across the field at him. I killed one cannon with the screamers and ran them down then slashed the wizard who was wandering around before slamming into a detachment with them, a chariot, marauder horse and eventually the screamers demolished on block of swordsmen who held for one turn thanks to a BSB reroll but were crushed next turn. Magic blasted one unit - green fire and conflagration of DOOM! the general got in on the action along with some hounds and crushed the spearmen unit with his general, they lost, fled (even with a reroll) and were run down. His knights did nothing all game until it was far to late. Frustrating game because my opponent had a list that could have caused me problems but he allowed me to dictate everything and allowed me to get all the charges I needed along with flank and often rear charges. His army basically crumbled from left flank to the right. I lost a total of 7 models the entire game and left him with maybe 5.

Result - Massacre, after the game I gave him some hints and advice for using his forces more aggressively and not letting his opponent dictate the pace of the battle.

Game 4 - vs Empire

Mission - Treasure hunt - Objective is to kill or force to flee the table the most expensive magic item that your opponent possessed, doing so earned an additonal 250 vp

Army List - Yet another empire army, again balanced
5 x Knights w Full Command
5 x White Wolf Knights w Full Command
5 x Pistoliers w Outrider musician
18 x Spearmen
20 x Swordsmen
19 x Halberdiers
Cannon
STEAMTANK!!

Report - this was a cracking game the hinged around a massive battle between the warriors, some hounds and the steam tank in the middle of the board. While this combat raged for four turns, the General, Marauder horse and screamers killed and ran down first the swordsmen, then the spearmen (with his general) Marauder horse killed and ran down the cannon on the left. On the right, Marauder horse tied up his white wolves with march blocks, other unit of knights fled a charge by hounds and marauder horse then rallied and ran off the hounds. In the middle I caused lots of wounds on the STANK but he wouldn't fail and armour save. Eventually the hounds were destroyed from behind and the stank and other knights killed the warriors and ran them down (Should have had my sorcerer leave the unit BEFORE they charged the steam tank, I just gave him the 250 bonus VP, but as I killed his general they bonuses cancelled out) The General and his chariot eventually crushed the halberdiers and at the end I held a quarter and contested the others.

Result - Marginal victory. Only 50 vp away from a solid victory but I gave away too many points unnessesarily. My opponent was another great sport - even charging his halberdiers into my general on the final turn just for kicks!

At the end of the day I stood at 4-0 and after all the points were tallied up I came first (but only by one point! The Empire list I faced second came second only because he got screwed in comp, sportsmenship and presentation in his final game) I was really happy with how the day went, I played four great games with three good and one learning opponents. Now I'm sitting atop the challenge board waiting to take on all comers.

Thanks for the report Papa, always nice to see new fantasy batreps here on Dakka. Well done against all the Empire armies, and congrats on taking first place. Glad you had at least a couple fun close games

Thanks Boss,

Still need to work on my reporting I think, there was lots of stuff that happened that I simply couldn't remember. Would have had pictures if the camera hadn't run out of batteries. Arrgghh! Yes two of the games were very close and all were a joy to play (course its more fun when you win), I would have preferred a little more variety in opponents but that didn't happen.

Cheers
