Ah, the ladies- God bless 'em!
Love the details you did get added- it's all the little things that you add, the fine details, that make your pieces really unique. Very few things in real life (let alone anything a Grot or Ork came within a country mile of) are smooth and unblemished.
This build is looking great!

The fog is because of micro-fuzz. You might be able to fix it with a coat of clear nail polish or epoxy. Maybe. Test on a scrap piece before trying, because it might also melt the plastic.

Meer_Cat: Most definitely. A loving and understanding wife makes the hobby a lot more pleasant. She's very creative with fabric, so knows what it's like to be 'in the zone'. And I have to agree: it's the details that bring builds to life. Thanks!
Yorkright: Thanks!
Anvildude: I'll give it a go, thanks for the advice!
Theophony: Now there's a nice compliment for a grizzled old greenskin Thanks!
Captain Brown: I can see a family resemblance, yes. Nice catch
So, did the turret today! While I liked the top hatch idea, I didn'it want to add more height. Also, Anvildude's excellent and poetic comment made sense. Some unbalance added to symmetry makes things interesting. Finding some chimera hatch bits offered me the solution: I could recess the top hatch, quick and easy. After dremeling a hole in the top plate to make the doors fit, I was good to go. I added lots of detailing on the side, including a gun-cam, to dd some assymetry, though I may have been a tad conservative in hindsight.
Anyway, judge for yourself:
And a top view to finish it off:
Now, it's time to add sponson weapons, and detail up the rear/underside. Getting there slowly but surely!

Nice detailing work.
As to fogged windows; there's a lot of advice out there about clearing them, such as polishing paste and/or various varnishes that people swear by. I've not used anything that has helped me yet so I'd advise looking about the 'net and see what grabs you.

Basically, to make something clear, you have to do 1 of 2 things to it. Fill in the gaps and make a smooth surface, or grind down the peaks and make a smooth surface. Polishing does the second (on a microscopic scale) and varnishing does the first.

Meer_Cat: Thanks!
Dr H: Thank you!
Anvildude: Thanks for the explanation! Tried some polishing, but I pushed a bit hard on the dremel - still need to experiment a tad more.
monkeytroll: welcome back! The waagh was on a 4-year hiatus, but I got back into things end of 2017 - and I'm happy I did
So, finished the big trakk! Well, I still need to do the odd bit of gs work, but that doesn't really count . The main thing to finish were the sponson weapons (skorchas for now, because there's no such thing as enough burninating). Quite easy, since I had two lying around - just a matter of mating them to the sponsons.
I also realized I hadn't posted up a pic of the driver (which still needs a gs arm):
The console is from a dakkajet, and the angled front means he looks like he's sitting once the 'floor' plate is installed into the trakk:
Window is still a tad fogged, but I'll experiment a wee bit more, I'm sure something will come up to get it right. I only tried polishing so far, so I can still experiment with clear varnish.
Just need to gs in the odd gap, give the driver an arm and- oh, paint the damn thing. I knew I 'd forgotten about something

monkeytroll: A bunch of over-excited grots and some skorchas, what could possibly go wrong?
Flinty: Oh yes, autohutting is lovely for greenskins . this thing is probably our best AA option
Meer_Cat: I'll get there slowly with the glass, some experimenting is always fun. i'll cosnider the name once I start adding graffiti
Theophony: Nice idea as well, thanks! Oh, and all my vehicles are converted, had to make this one fit in as well
For today, I decided to let the big trakk rest for a while (plan to do a big gs session this weekend), and get some paint in. Since I'd been experimenting with the doomchickens, I figured I might as well pull through and continue on them:
The one on the left was done with the instar not-macharius-solar-orange, which matches deliciously but doesn't cover quite as well as GW paint, the one on the right was done with jokaero orange, a flesh wash, and a red wash. less hassle to get an even coat, but as you can see the colour is quite a bit off when compared to what it's supposed to be. Still, I might be overreacting; I'm curious how the people that said a few point sof hue difference don't matter feel about this. To me, the difference is too big anyway. I've got a cheap airbrush coming in, I'll see if I can get it to work with the instar paint. If it does, bingo If not: several thin coats while cursing Duncan
Oh, and I also did some work on the handlers:
Both the chickens and the handlers are PIP, obviously, I hope to post a finished pic somewhere this weekend!

Love the doomchickens, perfect for for the waaagh.
To me the difference in hue isn't an issue, minor changes throughout the force are down to age, re-paints, weathering, storage and how many grots fell into the paint mixer as it was being prepared. But if it's too big a difference for you it's a moot point - your army, your rules. Hopefully airbrush helps you sort it.

monkeytroll: Thanks! Still waiting for the airbrush, and I'll aim for a cvertin unformity of colour, but after a few nights' sleep I've also decided not to worry about it oo much. Your explanations were too fun not to use
Dr H: thanks! and after building a lot of drivers for the squeaky waaaghh, you learn a few tricks- I used to build them all exactly like you described, which van be a very time-consuming process. Recently, i found the squattign pose old models have a godsend when it comes to modelling drivers.
Meer_Cat: Thank you! As for the MOS: 'grot that got his grubby claws on the remote' kinda sulms it up
Yorkright: that's the idea. Not to mention the AA-effectiveness of flametrowers in 8th ed.
For today, I give you guys a finished doomchicken. I was a bit worried when painting that there wasn't all that much colour variation, but once I added the grot controller, it dawned on me that I'd only been looking at 'half' the model. The grot adds a lot of colour to the mix, balancing ot the blue/orange on the chicken.
Pics:
Hope you guys like it!
