Love the Nephilim! I like the colour choices of the wing iconography, and where you've placed the highlights and shadows... If I might ask, how did you go about the masking for that (assuming you used masking!)?

A tip for the decals, no matter how big, make sure the area is really really glossy before you apply them with Microset. I find that if I brush-on (not airbrush) a few coats of gloss varnish until it's very shiny, I never get this problem. After the decal is set, a light coat of matte varnish with the airbrush makes it seamless with the rest of the model.

Thanks Luther! I did do masking on the panels though selectively...I'm quite lazy when airbrushing so I use masking tape sparingly...I try to use the angles of the model when spraying to pick out the panels without using masking tape as much as possible. Otherwise it's just mask, spray, mask spray

Thanks for the tip on the decals. I find sometimes it comes down to the age of the decal sheet...I have some old ones and new ones and the white frosting is sometimes due to bad adhesive which "clouds" up after applying. My most recent application clouded up even on a gloss surface. Ended up removing it with microsol and redoing it with another decal from a different sheet which went on fine. Either way I'm going to try and rely on them as less as possible and work on doing some proper airbrush stencils.

Stormtalon Gunship done! With this model complete, I have 15,087 points of painted Blood Angels spread across 240 models. This is all done after 6 years of collecting, building and painting (with a 2 year break). A mini-milestone which I'm very happy about - expect full army shots coming soon! For now, here are some pics of the Stormtalon (more on my blog):

Spent the last two days getting everything pulled out of storage and arranging all my painted models onto the realm of battle board. In total there is 15k+ points of painted Blood Angels. I'm still processing the pictures at the moment but here's a quick sneak peak:

Good show!

Thanks SL! Definitely was a surprise pulling out all the models and realizing I had something I completely forgotten - most of the models I had stored away for the past 3+ years. What's worse is when I do the same thing with unpainted models (what? I had already bought this baneblade?! why did I buy another one???) .

=====================================================================================================

So I spent two days doing the setup for this 15k photo shoot inside. Finding the space to setup the realm of battle board, lighting and boxes of minis was a challenge (ended up doing this in the living room). Had the TV in the background which I ended up covering up with some blackout curtains . All I can say is I'm glad I don't do this regularly as it was a huge pain to setup and teardown everything. In the end I think the photos were worth it.

First off...full army shot in full high res: http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/12/1/841890.jpg

I really like that you add models just because you like them. I feel like the process is just "You know what I want in my Blood Angels? A Dreadknight. And a Dark Angels flyer. And a IG tank. And a Titan. Yeah."

Thanks GiraffeX! Yup, it's been a few years since the last army shot and I've been steadily pumping out models this year. At this rate I'll have new army shots every year to do till I reach 40k points

Haha, thanks and yes, that's pretty much what I do think to myself when selecting models. If i can make it look like it belongs to the army I will paint it red and put it in there.

Haha not at the moment...the scout biker was a cool model to paint but don't have anymore to build/paint at the moment. He'll just have to be lonely for now.

It's great to see this army in all its splendour having watched it come together bit by bit. 4 years painting sounds a long time but it's actually a very impressive model count for that time (by my standards at least!) - especially painted so damn beautifully!

All I can say is give us moar!!

Man, that army is a joy to look at. Such an impressive sight.
And considering my own painting tempo, you assembled this this at warp speed, lol.

My only and only comment would be why you didn't paint the cockpit frames on the flyers? That really stands out to be honest.
But great shading with the blue tint, that looks awesome.

Thanks Meph. I skipped the cockpit frames since the blue tint involved dipping the whole cockpit in blue varnish which makes it glossy. It would be tough to paint over that so I skipped it.

Probably my last models painted for the year. Finished off 15 tac squad marines - all from the AoBR and Dark Vengeance starter boxes I had lying around. Will be trying to do more infantry the next few months as my army is a bit armour heavy at the moment.

Onto the pics:

I also managed to get some pics of my BA dice while I had the lightbox out. I have 2 sets of BA dice from Chessex with the BA logo on the 6 and the GW official BA dice with the BA logo on the red. Between the two, Chessex is easily 10x better quality - the GW ones are quite pathetic in both quality and feel. Of course, I've never gamed with these so it's hard say how well they'd roll.

Also included in the pic is the Munitorium dice from my 6th Ed Gamer Edition book. I repainted the servator skull dice holders to fit in more.

Quite happy with the progress this year as the total painted model count is 67 models (not counting the RoBB or terrain pieces). Approx total point count using BA and SM codices is 5232 (the knights and titans really helped boost this number).

Hope 2016 was as good for all of you as well and look forward to making a bigger dent on my model backlog in 2017!
