A reiver helm could work, but it’s always nice to see the chaplain screaming.

Good detail work on the builds. Coming along nicely!

Yes I quite like the screaming too especially with that pose. Still I have an inbuilt need to not build my stuff like everyone else.....and it means I get to continue the 'Reivers aren't Useless' meme only I find funny...

Speaking of doing things differently...these guys got finished!

Ta Da. I'm pleased with these guys..

Sarge. This is an EtB guy I swapped the arms on. The EtB models have slightly longer shins than the 'proper' ones...I think the 'hard to build?' ones take into account the length of the feet plate thingies but look a little stumpy, these guys look like their tip toe-ing...

I did some upward streaks in inks and contrasts (brown and black) but it's not very noticeable. I did a bit more damage and mud spatter than the other squad...

Insignia. I made this squad 11 as companies are 'allowed' to exceed 10 squads now, so modern.....

Hard to build guy, note short shins, I can't unsee it now...note spent brass on his base.... I think I diluted their look by having the rusty metal bits ending up basically the same colour, means they get a bit lost...

I also did some slight weathering on the guns...

Made the turbines a bit dirty...

EtB guy, I regret having both versions of this guy (the other is in the other sqaud) both having the 'pointing 2 guns' arms, makes them too similar...

Don't see myself ripping them off however...

See what I mean about the orange rust and brass casings, they look the same...

This is all of them crammed together....nice little drop threat..

I'm happy with the units, I look forward to putting them on the table in maybe mid 2021?

I also started the last unit for CRUSADE that I'm doing, Mephistoned's Libby Dread...

I like it like this, it's like it's a B&W photo, very arty. It's just black contrast used as a quick basecoat, I'll do the red next, again probably just as a quick way of getting good coverage...

Hope you like, more on the dread next.....

Laaarvlay! It's great that your painting style continues to evolve even after all these years. Really nice sharp highlighting and the weathering on the feet etc. is already more effective than that of the plasma batch you did before.

I was putting off commenting on these Inceptorz until I had come up with something sufficiently witty to do with them basically being better and more cost-effective versions of Crisis Battlesuits, but the more I thought about it the more bitter and twisted I became. Eventually I reached acceptance and I'm glad I waited .

Re the Chappy - I think we'll all need to see a preview of each head option.

Well done on starting that Lib Dred - it's relatively fiddly compared to the other BA stuff we have done for Mephistoned.

It's really easy to import a 2D image (e.g. photo) to a card standee token in Tabletop Sim. All we would need to do is photograph every single model in the CRUSADE armies, crop/magic tool them in Photoshop, clearly label them and then...

On second thoughts let's just wait for this mythical 'herd mentality' I keep reading about in the news.

Yes I'm hoping Herd Mentality will save me too.

Thanks! Yes I think I can see the improvements as I continue learning how to 'thin my paints', it's gratifying to see and one of the reasons I wanted to do another company, some of the painting is pretty ropey on the old stuff.

I'm sorry we stole Crisis Suits and made them better, they did look fun to use. I expect XV8s will get 4 wounds in the next book.

Here are the finished shots of my Crusade Force...

I took these at night so the lighting would be either dim or glarey, I went with glare...

Mostly 'Classic' dudes..

Mostly 'big' guys...

Mostly Phobos...

Mostly big stuff...............mostly

We also 'played a game'. MLCS got some nice pics and a BatRep may happen in the next 6 months or so. Here my Captain is hiding in a tree as we rolled the 'Assassinate' mission.

I also discovered the best thing in the UM Codex is the name generator and I named up my roster which follows.....

Erasman Cassamir
Captain, Storm Bolter, Power Fist, Sanctic Halo, Adept of the Codex, Paragon of War

Coriolanus Optimar
Phobos Librarian, Tarentian Cloak, Hallucination, Soul Sight

Squad Theldar
Tacticals x 5, Combi-Plas, Power Sword, Plasma Gun

Stalwart
Razorback, Twin Lascannon

Squad Decimus
Tacticals x 5, Combi-Melta, Power Axe, Melta Gun

Saviour
Razorback, Twin Assault Cannon

Squad Geminus
Intercessors x 5, Power Fist, Grenade Launcher

Squad Caltor
Reivers x 5 (not a typo), Grapples

Squad Tyration
Inceptors x 3, Plasma

Squad Agorian
Eliminators x 3, Bolt Sniper Rifles

Brother Trogdor
Dreadnought, Multi Melta, Heavy Flamer, DCCW (and a bad attitude)

That's 60 power. We gave ourselves a bit more power for LOLs.

I picked 30 from the above to play our first game, good to get the rules down a bit and adjust to playing on the back of a box of matches. we used a 3'x3' mat which is about the recommended size and it was really tiny (that's what she said). Anyway more on that soon. Hopefully some other games too (unfortunately probably some on TTS). The BA book is out now and I've started on the Libby dread, the last outstanding model for Mephistoned's force so some completed pics of all that after Xmas we hope. The DG book will be next and we'll see just how bent that gets (spoiler, pretty bent by the look of things) so we all look forward to playing Dan's Smelly Boys (and his Death Guard).

Merry primary gifting season to everyone, lets hope the new year is lighter on the cataclysm.........

I tracked their kills against normal SM in a small game (several editions ago now) and I got 0 Lasgun kills, against DG they will do a whole lot more nothing. There aren't any weapons that are especially good against them too. The base powers are really strong but it's the buffs/auras/WT/strats that will kick those effects up to 11. Yay.

Hello.

So I'm starting up production again after the holidays, I've started a bit more building of various units and painting on a LT...

I've built these Bladeguard, I'm getting another Inters box and will replace all their backpacks to non Iron Halo ones as that's a Captain thing. I hate MkIII armour too so I binned off those heads and replaced with a basic helmet and 2 interesting bare ones...

These guys too, I probably won't use them much in the interests of keeping my friends, I swapped a head here too, don't like the giant respirator ones and used a Elim head instead...

Remember when these where considered OP? Simpler times, I'm painting these next, I'll probably proxy them as the heavy version as that could be nasty...

Seen here built and basecoated/inked...

This is my current project, my Primaris LT. He's converted from the DI standard bearer...

When I was inking the head for some reason it went super dark and I managed to blot out a bunch of detail trying to rectify it..

I fortunately had a spare (it's off the Repulsor sprue) so I just started again, thinning the ink loads this time...

He's nearly done now, I'll do some more pics soon...I'm awaiting a delivery of some more Inters I got off Amazon (I had a gift card) and I'll use them to build a 10 man Ass Bolter unit and a 10 man Ass Marine unit. They'll be objective grabbers and should be hard to stop and hit like a ton of bricks, The above LT can follow the Assault Bolter guys and give them some great (emotional) support.

More soon.

Nice building and paint.

I hear good things about the Bladeguard vets. They certainly look cool. I need to paint the ones I have, and get the full kit. It looks to be packed full of awesome.

I’m not looking forward to facing eliminators on the table. They do seem like the kind of unit that kills friendships on a 4+. The Boy, however will take what edge he can find to counteract my decades of experience, so I suspect once he gets his lazy teenaged self in gear, they will start to show up in my battle reports on his side of the table.

Always nice to see some Lts. We’ve got years of captains piled up, need to get twice that many junior officers.

Yes I think I've got 4 Captains (not including my RT stuff and lacking a Primaris one) and this is only my 3rd LT. Got the new BG one ready to go however...

My reinforcements arrived, Yay (saying that I've had the Medic for a while, a gift from Alex). These are the only models I've left to build (ZOMG) bar the 2 Repulsors which are low priority as they suck.

Work is proigressing on this dude...nearly there....

Still grappling with trying to get good pics out of my new phone but this is an approximation of what his head is looking like...

I couldn't decide what to do on his shoulder pad, I went with the RT LT insignia (obviously) and a row of stars (STAAAAARSSS) for his personal heraldry because it's easy. Slightly reminiscent of the old LT Commander rank badge too. I still regret not doing that on my Invictus conversion, if there's a chance of using him I may redo his shoulder.

'Skip to the end', typically, you won't get to see it as it's facing away and (after a dry fit check) obscured by his back pack..

Very nearly complete here...more soon!

Glad you like him, thanks.

Well he's done now!

Ta Dah!

Creepy milky injured eye.....probably awaiting bionic replacement but he's too busy slaying the enemies of the Emprah to take time out....

I gave him a silver Assault bolter to denote it's MC status.....

I wanted his to look like he's advancing leading troops forward. The rough idea is for him to shepherd the impending Ass bolter unit towards objectives.....

Rank insignia, obscured by backpack bleh...backpack also got a little ornamentation, I think of it as a trainee Iron Halo...

I added half a dread fist to his base as random wreckage...I'm pleased with how he came out, more interesting than the standard bearer he's converted from anyway...

I hope you like him, he's already graced the table in my 3rd game of Crusade and did well (survived)...I've started on the Hellblasters but not much progress yet, more soon..

Lt’s looking good!

I’ve been enjoying mine in crusade. He’s not the hammer that the captain is, but a great force multiplier. RRs to hit are easy to get, but not so much for to wound.

What agendas you picking? Is it just me, or is “Know No Fear” crazy good for leveling up units? And Marksmen Honours just a little too nice as an upgrade? Will be interesting to see what my other armies get access to when they get codexes. Marines get some solid options in theirs.

Thanks!

He was good in his debut game but I can't help thinking 4 Power is a lot. 1 more and I could have another Tack or Inter squad which would have been more impactful.

I banned myself from 'KnF' as I'm trying to play down a bit, most of my games are against T'pau so I'm trying to keep it fair. In the last game I was on the back foot as I did the SM thing of running around in the open getting shot whilst he sat in a big building pounding away (and shooting guns) but I leveled the playing field with an Orbital Barrage (it's the only way to be sure) which he decided to tough out. I killed a bunch of his army and gave myself a chance. In the end the disappearing objective thing favoured him and gave him his first win which was great.

I tend to just use reaper as it is easy and I don't have to think. Most of my force has leveled up now and I did pick the BS2+ for my Plas Tacks, it's pretty good.

Hello,

I've managed a bit here and there of the space mans painting..here's a bit of evidence..

I've been working on these guys, mostly because I own them, rather than because I want to field them, after 5 more Inters, I'll have finished all my pre-Inderptimas models (bar the tanks)...

I've endeavoured to do them nicely but quickly....

Here they are mostly done (mostly etc)...

They're pretty much finished now and after a few tweaks I'll try to get some glamour shots done..

I've also started building my 10 man Ass Bolter unit..

Here a few shots I took whilst building...I'm cutting off their massive holsters and will add them to the Ass Inters when I get round to building them...

I'm also toying with the idea of converting the BG standard into a squad sarge. I don't like the standard as a model and find it expensive in points, I'd strap a shield to his back and think it could work. Any opinions? I've tried selling him on eBay twice so maybe this is the best use.

Hopefully the finished HB will grace the pages soon..till then..

Here's a bit of Aliens; Another Glorious Day in the Corps, this is a Bug Hunt mission and you can see there's massive stack of bugs to the 'north' and a conga line of blips to the 'north west', we'd also lost 3 guys by this point...the card displayed was our last move....

Marines are looking good. I think the ancient might be a little too fancy to be a sarge, but would make a good Lt. Your conversion looks like a good start. I assume the sword will replace the skeleton hand? If you grab a SS from the BGV box, you can put that on his back and make for the same wargear as the indominus Lt., but different look.

I keep seeing that Aliens game popping up. Is it a kickstarter thing, or can you just go out and buy it? How does it play? I’m a sucker for the franchise, and it would not take a lot to push me into grabbing a copy.

I've got the Indom LT as an LT, I did convert him a bit. I don't think there's a 'too fancy' when it comes to BGV. they're already up to 11. Yes the sword would replace the weird hand bit. I have a similar shield I can add to his back, I've the old metal one from the OG 'Masters of the Chapter (Universe)' set or a DW one, they'll probably do as they'll be on his back. I could get a mate to 3D print one but don't think I care enough.

It's good! It came out as a KS but is out to buy IRL. We've only played twice; the first obligatory 'get a lot of rules wrong' go and a second 'I can't roll dice' game where I killed 3 of my Marines in 2 turns by being crap. A proper game will be next I'm sure. It's very faithful to the IP and is relatively straightforward, the endurance deck thing is odd but that's about it. Aliens even move 6 al la Space Hulk.

These guys got finished!

Sarge. I did a bit of heat weathering..

Sarge bars. I did these guys relatively quickly but I think the finish is good...still practicing with the new highlighting...getting better at it..

Troopers. I always see the mold lines when they're finished, sigh.

Aliens style motion tracker. "They're in the goddamn room!"

Glad to have these guys done. I've done a bit of building on the 10 man Ass Bolter squad too, more on that next..

Thanks dude. Yes I much prefer the darker tone, GW have been slowly catching up with me over the years, the current GW paint jobs are a far cry from the 'Fisher Price' looking powder blue UM from 2nd Ed.

My ABR squad has been progressing, here are a few final builds..

The sarge, was going to be an LT but got demoted for attitude 'issues'. He's got a head off the Repulsor sprue and a PF from yesteryear. I had to fill in a biggish space under his armpit to force the angles.

This guy gained an AGL in his final version. Looks like he means business. I chopped off all these converted Ass Inters massive, comedy holsters for the daft Heavy Bolt Pistol that's the same size as an OG marine's bolter..

This guy got a scabbard for his knife stuck over the scar of removing his holster (not really visible in this pic)..

These guys are pretty straight forward conversions using the Ass Inter bodies..I've saved all the holsters for when I make the choppy guys which will be the next project probably as I only need to make 4 new guys to finish that squad.

I'll see if I get anything done over the next few days, more soon (TM)...

Hello. I am still alive.

I've been out of the habit recently but find myself gravitating towards plastic space mans again. I've started working on my ABR unit and they are approaching being done but first I'd thought I'd share my most recent CRUSADE! game against MLCS's dirty T'pau.

This was the first game I've played IRL in ...............er ages? As such it had a festival feel. The mission was the breakthrough type thing where night fighting was a thing and we got points for leaving the table on the opponents side.

My left flank, the Reivers had to deploy as no one was allowed to Outflank or Deep Strike (as it would make leaving the board too easy). The Laserback is carrying the 2x Melta Tack squad. The Dread is hiding behind obscuring terrain.

The centre was held by some Inters and my Eliminators, the Captain is bravely hiding downstairs...to their right was the other Razorback (assault cannon flavour holding my 2x Plasma Tacks) and my new Phobos Librarian (not pictured)..

The Tau right (facing my Reivers etc), a few squads of FW and a Fireblade cravenly cower in some ruins. The centre is held by the Hammerhead and some Kroot. Above them on the gantries are some Marker Drones and a Marksman.

The big Tau attack, his left. So facing my Libby and Assback. The 3 suits have every upgrade and some shield drones, the 3 man Stealth team is just visible behind the wall. The 'Fish is loaded with 9 Breachers as well as 3 Sniper Drones and all of this is led by his triple MP Commander.

He's deployed everything, and I've my Plas Inceptors in reserve. I'll only be able to DS them in my deployment zone but I wanted a threat in reserve as that's one hell of a left hook coming at me.

I'll post up some more on this later, I've only a few pics but it's nice seeing all our efforts in having fully painted forces and terrain, a fair bit of each completed recently for CRUSADE! games. This was my first game using a full 60 PL force so I was getting to field a bunch of stuff for the first time in CRUSADE (and 9th), like my dread and a few units (like the Inceptors and Libby) for the first time ever! Apparently that means they get great luck.

Thanks dude! Yes I think it's much nicer in a darker blue. GW are slowly catching up with me.

Nevelon wrote:Good to see you alive, well, and smiting the xenos!

Yes I'm just about alive and just about smiting Xenos, speaking of which....

The T'au kicked off by pelting the Inters in the centre to little avail, the Reiver stepped through a hail of SMS with little effect too. The big attack ground forward but only managed to drop 6 wounds off the Razorback. Expecting to lose it I moved the transport forward to body block a bit and to blow up nearer to his lines. The Plas Tacks bundled out and held the crate thing, they caused little damage however. The Assback popped a few drones. The Libby advanced into the open so his smite would target the hated Stealth team, one super smite later and two of them lay dead, he also gave -1 to hit to the Suits, not bad for his first deployment ever!

*Fresh paint curse disproved*

The T'pau pushed again, rather foolishly as it transpires, the Commander contemptuously gunned down the Assback, which exploded. My Libby and Tacks took a few wounds but the T'au got the worst of it (pictured). His lone Stealth suit melta'd the Libby who passed his 5+ Invun from the 'Tarentian Cloak' relic.

Not to be denied the Tau did reduce the Tack down to just the Sarge who the Breachers unwisely charged, failed to hurt and lost a few to his Power Sword.

In the centre the dual between the Railhead and the Laserback ended when the transport disgorged the Melta Tacks who proceeded to knock off it's last 5 wounds. It obviously blew up and killed a few of the Kroot, Marker Drones and the Marksman, oops.

The SM counterattack and the heroes pile into the blocking empty 'Fish ably supported by the Dread, who had hurt the Railhead and killed off the last Stealth guy with his flamer. The Inters charged into the Breacher's hoping to rescue the beleaguered Tack Sarge. Seeing the way the wind was blowing I resolved the attack on the 'Fish last, it obviously blew up to. Massive damage was dealt to the SM, the Libby would have died bar his Primaris constitution and regenerating granted by his Relic, the Captain and the Dread were down to 2 wounds and an Inter bought it. Oh and the Tack Sarge I was trying not to lose.

The Tau carried on pushing, trying to breakthrough my lines. The brand new Inceptors had dropped in and let fly at the suits doing a grand total of 1 wound...stupid PL games and shield generators on everything..

*Fresh paint curse confirmed*

The T'au suits causally erased the SM copies...

The remaining SM shot and charged the remaining T'au, the Dread, having a lovely time, punched out the Tau commander, killing his 3rd unit this game (he got marked for greatness and levelled up from this game alone). The Inters killed one and reduced the last Crisis to one wound.

That was about it. The little FW party in the corner killed the Reivers daftly running at them down to 1 guy, the Melta Tacks wiped out the Kroot and left the battle with the Laserback, winning the game for me.

It was a fun game, quite explosive. And a lot of vehicles blew up. It was great to play in person and to use a lot of units for the first time (ever: Primaris Librarian, Inceptors, in 9th: Dread, Assback) and to use my full Crusade Roster (nearly, I left out my Primaris LT). I've been enjoying Crusade, it's given me a chance to use new, freshly painted units and play smaller, interesting missions with leveled up units.

Recommended.

More pics soon on the ABR Inters soon..

I hope you enjoyed it. I was a fun game, and the first in looong time.

I've been sketching out some character conversions I've had lying around for a while now...

New Chapter Master! Biggus Headus. This was a random gift from Mephistoned, I like to think it's for painting half a CRUSADE! army for him..

Trying out this guy, Captain or possibly an actual Chapter Master (when Calgar is off sick), I'd lengthen the ABR to look like a Heavy Bolt Rifle...

I like the idea of a big sword too, covers up some of that weird belly, I'd call him Maximus Thicc. I think either bald or a full head of hair rather than a mo-hawk and, obviously, a bionic eye...I like the idea of a Grav Captain and don't like the load of the this default one and don't like the model (or price) of the new HBR Grav Captain...

Probably my next project, Chief Medic, I'd have to call him Dr Octopus obviously...

Current version, I'd swap the pistol, he's got a drill and a syringe on those mecha-dendrites, should make him fun at parties...I'm not having him standing on a Brother but may use that bit to make an Objective marker, would be great for the special Medic one in CRUSADE! but that Agenda sucks unfortunately...

I've just finished the first 5 of the Auto Bolt Rifle Intercessors, I'll do the glamour shots and post them up in the next day or so, I'm making myself paint the next 5 but will do them to a lesser standard as I'm not sure when I'll get to run the full 10 man blob..anyway hope you like..

Bristol!

Here are the glamour shots of my Auto Bolt Rifle Intercessors (trips off the tongue, NOT)...

Squad Sarge, I went with heraldry on the tilting plate and like the extra colour afforded by it. The head is off the Repulsor sprue...note shell casing on his base...supposed to make you think they've been firing lots...

Sarge Bars..

I've been practicing with simplifying the edge highlights which I think is giving a nicer finish..

Grenade guy..note blood above eye to make him look more action hero-y...

I did some weathering on these guys to make them seem tougher as they're supposed to be close to the enemy, capturing objectives...

Stabby guy, this guy always make me think of THAT guy from Mad Max II..."Road Warrior!"...

"We come here to kill!"

Bolter huggers making up the numbers...

I really like these running legs from Inderptimus, lots of potential...

Obligatory blurry pic...

Pics..

Squad so far, I've started on the next 5 to take this up to max size which will give me a nice option to push up the field and a nice big blob to chuck buffs on too. The companion unit will be a 10 man Assault Intercessors who are in the blue tacked stage at the mo..I've been tinkering with Dr Octopus so there may be some more build pics soon.

I'm pleased with these guys and like the poses, one reason why I painted them to a higher standard, it's easy to paint almost everything to character level standards with Primaris as there aren't that many of them in an army. Hope you enjoyed the photo-shoot.

Very nice. Those running legs were made for the auto bolt rifle guys. Gives you something other than the scope/mag to help tell them apart from the other types of bolters.
