Hi,

I've been reading the site for a while trying to learn as much as I can about WH40k. I'm just getting into the hobby and have found this site very helpful. I was hoping to submit my first attempt at an army before I spend my money trying to collect it all. From what I've read, I tried creating a Mech Tau Army, since I like the idea of having greater mobility. Please let me know what you think and offer any helpful suggestions.

ELITES – 2 XV8 Crisis Battlesuits: 139 Points
(Team Leader: Plasma rifle, missile pod; targeting array; hard-wired multi-tracker.)

Thankyou for taking a look!

P.S. Sorry if anyone has any trouble reading the format of the army.

I used to play the Tau when they first came out, so there are some things in the newer codex I am not familiar with such as Vespid and Piranhas. I only played a few games with my Tau, but I never lost and my list was similar to yours. I wont tell you what to take out and what to put in, but I will tell you what worked for me. First off, Crisis Suits with plasma rifle, missile pod, multi-tracker are AWESOME. The ability to jump shoot jump is just amazing. I took 2 units of 3 crisis suits with this configuration. They will rip space marines a new one and really just about any other slow moving infantry squad. I took 1 team of 6 stealth suits and these guys were worth every dime. Unloading 18 S5 shots on a squad is priceless. The Hammerhead is a must if you ask me for any Tau army and having two is all the better. I ran two squads of 12 Fire Warriors with Devilfish just to get the maximum amount of S5 firepower in rapid fire range. Piranhas did not exist when I played the Tau and they seem fragile to me, but what speeder isn't? Overall I'd say you have a pretty solid list. I think the Tau are one of the toughest armies to beat in 40k because of their great firepower and incredible mobility. If played correctly, you can stay out of HTH with even the fastest of enemies. Just remember to concentrate your fire on the enemies fast moving units and to ALWAYS MOVE YOUR SUITS IN THE ASSAULT PHASE. This will save you, trust me. The few times I forgot to do this hurt bad, but didn't lose me the game, luckily. Well there is my two cents. Good luck serving the Greater Good.

I know a fair bit of tau, mine have been quite successful so here goes:

upgrading your crisis suits to have a team leader+ multi tracker is alright, but not necessary

3 stealth suits with targeting arrays is good,  6 without is better.

Each Pirhana should be in its own squadron of 1, and each should have a targeting array and fusion gun.
