Yorkright: Most welcome. I should get some more battles in, but time and all that...

monkeytroll: thanks; I'm gonna do a pimp daddy grot at some point I think, just to see how far I can push it

ph34r: Thank you! It's the little details that bring minis to life IMO.

For today, I give you fine gentlemen (and -ladies) a second finished doomchicken. Fast painting for me . I wanted him to look like he's peeking from behind the faceshield, since grots aren't exactly known for their bravery.

And I need to add bleached bone to his claws on his right hand.. oops. Nothing like seeing your mini magnified like this to spot every little mistake .

Now I'm off for a birthday weekend of booze and BBQ, so I'll see you guys on the other side of the weekend!

Theophony, Dr H: Thanks!

Camkierhi: Thanks Cam, good to see you posting again!

So, my birthday weekedn was great fun, and one of my more devious friends decided to gift me the Battletech computergame... And I kinda fell in love . I've always been a fan of the battletech universe, andthis game really captures the feel of it all.If you like turn-based, definitley agame to try out. Addictive though. very addictive to be honest. So, in an effort to do other stuff beside turn in to a meatbag behind my pc, I decided to paint a bit. Well, and work in the yard, clean up the garage, you know, activity other than staring at a screen.

So, some small progress: the grot with the glasses had his remote finished, and I did some more work on the two doomchickens:

Not much, but it's a start. I can get pretty addicted to video games, so some other stuff to do seems like a smart idea See you guys around!

monkeytroll: 5 days and having to work . Thanks!

So, quick piccies today of an actual army! Yorkright said he'd like to read a batrep, and since I'll be playing a 1500 pts battle vs orks, I figured I'd do a batrep. I'll be playing against a green horde (if my guess is correct) with an unoptimized army, but orks vs orks (codex-wise) should be fun. You can see my army (and list) in the piccies:

partial shots:

Don't look for duplicate grots amongst the grot units, because there are none

Still some unpainted stuff in there, but since I'll be facing the dreaded grey ork klan, I don't feel too guilty . Dakkajet and the doomchickens unit are PIP, KMK and big trakk even need an undercoat, and my dakkagrot is standing in for a second big mek. This gives me a brigade for lots of shenanigans to pull off. Building this list also made me realise how horribly overcosted orks are compared to my imperial guard... If you don't go boys, you're basically shafted. Still, we'll see what we make of it, and burnaboyz, the burna big trakk and the dakkajet should give my opponent's infantry some pause for thought - I just wish I could've found points for some meganobz.

Meer_Cat: thanks! Hiney was kicked

Yorkright: You're welcome! Andyep, no two grots look the same. It was one of the goals I set myself. Well, two metal ones look the same, but I'll change one up at some point.

So, Batrep Time! basically, we played a fairly standard batle bewteen two new guys in 8th. The great Mouchakka having had to spend some time studying, and me being more of a modeller these days, we'd decided that gently rolling back in would be nice. Since we have some extremely talented player sa tour club, that meant playing each other .

You can see my list above, but repeated here for convenience:

HQ:
Warboss in mega-armour (in BW)
Big Mek with KFF
naked big mek (brigade tax + vehicle repair)

Troops:
6* 10 grots

Fast Attack:
2* 3 bikers
a warbuggy

Elites:
5 tankbustas, bomm squig, (in big trakk)
runtherd
10 burnaboyz (in BW)

Heavy Support

1 battlewagon w/ deffrolla
1 big trakk, supaskorcha, 2 regular skorchas
1 KMK

Flyers:
1 Dakkajet, 6 supa-shootas

His list consisted of

HQ:
3 warbosses

Troops:
2*12 boyz in trukks, 2*20-ish boyz, 2*10 boyz

Elite:
3* 5 nobs

fast attack:
2* 3 bikers

heavy support:
1 battlewagon
1 KMK
1 traktor kannon

We rolled up the 6 objective mission where one was worth more points, which after rolling for it, turned out to be in my opponent's deployment zone top left on the deplyment pic). And we go the length-wise deployment. Joy

Deployment pic:

First turn,we both advanced and shot a bit, me focussing on the trukks and BW, and removing one unit of bikers, while he started plinking away at my BW and grot screens:

Second and 3rd turn saw some maneuvring and me cleaning up the flanks, while his death-star BW (3 warbosses and 3 nob units) trundled up the center, my dakkajet flying around and causing lots of havoc:

Turn 3, I finally killed the BW, and blocked the passage of his units with the big trakk, while the burnaboyz and warboyz cleaned up his regular orks

This kinda clinched it. In desperation, he assaulted my burna trukk, which duly overwatched every single unit he charged it with to burny crisps. If he hadn't assaulted, it would have been real tight, but now, I could just move in and start mopping up:

He conceded bottom of turn 5, since he barely had units left and I was poised to take the 4-point objective next turn. Nice game though, and could've swung either way till that (rather suicidal) charge versus the big trakk. We made the odd mistake here and there (using too many CP each phase, and he was one FA short of a brigade I think), but we had good fun, and internal codex balance seems more or less OK. He might even paint some more models - and it's surely motivated me to finish my 1500 points list

A small rundown of how my army performed:

HQ:
Warboss in mega-armour (in BW): did some krunchin', so he did Ok I guess not too impressed with mega-armour though.
Big Mek with KFF: 5+ invul saves ftw
naked big mek (brigade tax + vehicle repair): cheap repair, kinda OK

Troops:
6* 10 grots: you get what you pay for (not much ); Still, there's a lot of units skedaddling around and needing attention, which defintiely helps out. When comparing them to my guarsdsmen though, point for point they feel like 5 year olds who wandered into a paedophile convention

Fast Attack:
2* 3 bikers: cheap and cheerful shooting. Nothing spectacular either way. No cc unit though, let's be clear about that.
a warbuggy : quite resilient, but too expensive; A shame, since I have 6 :(

Elites:
5 tankbustas, bomm squig, (in big trakk): do what they're meant to qo, and quite ok for such a small unit. Top notch right now IMO
runtherd: cheap-ass elite choice, probably more useful with bigger grot units. Birigade tax, basically, and hard to target since he's a character.
10 burnaboyz (in BW): a tad expensive and too luck reliant with only a d3 hits; should really be a d6 IMO

Heavy Support

1 battlewagon w/ deffrolla: expensive but solid. Defrollas rock
1 big trakk, supaskorcha, 2 regular skorchas: ridiculously effective when compared to a BW
1 KMK: did OK, but I think you need 4-5 (or 15 ) for them to shine. Work in progress!

Flyers:
1 Dakkajet, 6 supa-shootas: did quite OK: good maneuvrability, reasonably resilient, 18 4+ to hit shots is quite OK.

Hope you guys liked it!

Gitsplitta: thanks! I always like doing a unit rund-own, it's more useful somteimes than the batrep itself, and that way you grade units also shows how your playstyle evolves.

For piccies today, a 3rd doomchicken, becasue I'm a slow-ass painter with too many other hobbies and not enough time. I have three more PIP, but those will be for another day. Getting there slowly but surely.

Very nice! Maybe a touch more weathering around the leg joints? I know the grits do love to cover everything once they've finished fighting over who gets the brushes and sprays, but a touch of metal showing through on those moving parts always gives me a warm fuzzy feeling.

Hey guys, I'm back again from my usual summer hibernation . A combination of sweltering heat, holidays, a puppy, and lot sof other stuff have conspired against me to keep me away from my orange little fellows, but with the shiortening of the days and the fact that the hobbyroom is now back to an acceptable temperature, I decded to get stuck in again. Only to find half of my paints have been cooked of by the heat wave we had . Well, back to the FLGS it is I guess.

First off, some long-overdue replies:

monkeytroll: you just named my tankbusta nob

Dr H: thanks!

MeatShield: you're welcome!

Yorkright: thanks! If you want a tutorial on the lenses, it should be fairly easy.

jseverin: Thank you! I'm looking forward to orktober, hoping forn a fun codex.

schank23: especially since it's a glue bottle

Warlord_ky: Thank you! Feel free to loot, that's the proppa greenskin way

In the meanwhile, here's some PIPs:

Some progress on the doomchickens and a handler:

And the dakkajet PIP. I need to do something with the wing edges and add some weathering, and then finish the pilot.

I kinda like the blue flames, but they look a little flat right now. Suggestions welcome as always!
