Hmm I've got an assault squad and a few bikes primed and ready for paint. I want to focus on doing more infantry this year to even out my collection a bit more - I've got a ton of armour at the moment. Not sure though, nothing is written in stone and I have a few more knights and a warlord titan still waiting for assembly so who knows?

First completed models for 2017: Centurion Assault Squad. Started on the trio back during the Christmas break but didn't have time to complete them until a day ago. Since these guys are built using the close combat arms (fully magnetized), I painted their helms yellow which I've done for my assault squads and close combat terminators (my previous centurion devastators have blue helms). I know the BA don't really get to take these guys since they're not in the codex but still want to have a unit in my army for collecting purposes.

Stunning... as always. Little touches of green and the yellow helmets with blue eyes really sell it.

Really nice paintwork, Eggroll, and I like the use of the yellow helms.

On the other hand, not too keen on the sculpts - I'd've thought the assault variant would be a little more dynamic than the heavy weapon version...

Thanks Gits! Was quite pleased with how the yellow helms with blue eyes turned out and plan on doing rest of my assault squads with the same scheme.

Thanks Dysartes! I know what you mean about the sculpt and didn't like the unit when it first came out. However, after working on them it's really grown on me and think it still fits in well with the rest of the range.

I've never been a fan of the models, but seeing them in BA colours – including the yellow assault helms and black sergeant shoulder pads – and done with your style they actually look awesome!

What an amazing labour of love! I have been following along throughout the journey and continue to be impressed by your dedication and the tremendous consistency of your painting and basing! Each model looks great, but to see the whole (massive) force arrayed for war brings a fanged smile to my face!

5000 pts High Elves 4000 pts, Warriors of Chaos 4000 pts, Dwarfs 3000 pts, Wood Elves and Greenskins too

Thank you! Glad people are still getting enjoyment from this thread. Haven't had time lately to work on the models but hoping to turn things around soon and finish off more models. Stay tuned!

It's been awhile! Been dragging my feet the last few months with painting but as the new releases have been hitting the shelves, I've been finding more motivation to get things painted. SW:A recently inspired me to paint up some terrain pieces I had built and primed for awhile. I present the following:

Wall of Martyrs: Firestorm Redoubt

Promethium Pipes

Aegis Defence Line and Cities of Death walls

Also painted were a big squad of bikes and attack bikes:

And finally the limited edition terminator captain:

Egg,

Awesome to see another Vancouverite here, I moved down south to Ferndale WA.. Anyway fantastic army absolutely stunning!

Is there anyway I can persuade you to maybe update the way you do these guys on the first page? I know your using Duplicoat to base coat, but it appears some of the other process has changed.

I understand if you don't want to give away trade secrets but it would be greatly appreciated.

Seriously though man unreal work!

wow! Beautiful Angels.
The work on the chapter badge for that Terminator alone is almost enough to make me go home and rethink my life.

Thanks Primalexile! I will look to update the first post with my latest method. I have noticed when I place my newer models against the older ones that the new ones are a bit more "red" with higher contrast and saturation. Will be sure to update soon!

Always cool to see rare models with nice paint jobs.

Do some of your bikers just not have the TL Boltguns? Dudes with the right handed power sword and the power beatstick. Looks like they were Black Talon bikers.

Thanks Whalemusic. Yes, you always seem to scrutinize my models - they are missing the TL bolt guns...just didn't have any left since the Black Talon box some with plasma guns. Will keep it bare for now unless I want to game with them in the future and I need the extra 2 bikers.

Haha, I can't pick on the painting so gotta take my constructive criticism where I can get it. I do like the variety in the front fairings on the bikes that you have going on, makes them less copy/paste and more individualistic.

Hey Eggroll,

Been watching this thread for a long while and with the new Primaris stuff have decided to do some Blood Ravens and want to try to replicate your red for the base colors.

A couple questions-

1) What primer do you use? I know you mentioned Duplicolor Rust primer, but when I google that I can only find automotive primers. Is that what you are using? Where do you get it? Link (if you don't mind me being that guy)? The primer I have had in the past comes out too grainy and I wanted to try your process.

2) What psi do you run your airbrush at? I am a noob, but getting better. =)

Keep up the inspiring work!!

Hi Hida77,

Thanks! I've been meaning to do an updated write up about my new colour scheme...it's brighter than my older one. For now I'll answer your questions:

1) I've switched to using a black undercoat primer which I find to be faster for my painting workflow. I use Vallejo black airbrush primer for normal models and duplicolour black primer for terrain pieces. The duplicolour is a car primer so that is the correct one that you're referring to...it's usually labeled as sandable primer I believe. I got it from Canadian Tire (assuming you are from Canada). Just make sure you shake it well and prime in ideal conditions (not too hot/cold and hot too humid). Otherwise stick to an airbrush primer which is much harder to mess up.

2) All airbrush work is done at 20psi or below. Primer is thicker so that is shot at 20 psi...for normal paints it's around 15 and really detailed work like shading on small metallic areas are done at around 10-12.

Hope that helps!
