Yes they really are, it's handy to mix up both the bolter and chainsword units to make them both more diverse.

Gwyn chan 'r Gwyll wrote:A very dynamic squad, great work!

Thanks, yes I wanted to go for movement. Glad you liked them.

Been tinkering a bit more with these heroes..

Built a nice tactical rock for the Medic to stand on..

Thinking of adding the little chainblade to his wrist al la the old Narthecium thingy..

Nearly built now, all but the backpack is done. I'm not sure about the second arm on top, it's got the little magnifiers on it ATM but don't know if it's just making it all too busy?

Trying a different head out, can't decide if it's better..

There has been some painting too, plugging away at the 5 bolter huggers to finish off the above squad, more on them sooner or later..

The extra arms might be a little much, but if you want Doc Oct, you need 8 arms.

I liked the old yelling head on the gravis guy better. But both work.

Yeah I think I do too, the old heads are a bit smaller, seemingly at least..

Better with bionic eye? (Isn't everything?)...I also added some place holder hair. I have been looking at the new kits and there is a nice pointing arm in the Eradicators box and a couple of HBR arms in the Heavy Inters box that would be great for this guy, I'm now hitting refresh every 10 mins or so on my preferred bitz retailer...

Probable final version of my super medic. He'll just have to make do with 5 arms instead of the required 8.

I've started to work on his Octopus array and began by cutting off the ammo hopper from the Gravis backpack, he won't be needing it anyway..

I drilled out the centre and added a magnet in there, I think it will make it easier to store and I think it could denote him being a standard Medic or upgraded to the Chief version...I'm adding a madnet onto his backpack next..

I wanted this guy to be an objective marker so started the conversion on that too..

I added a bunch more rubble to look like he's trapped in a collapsed building sort of deal..

I've pretty much finished these guys now and will post up some finished pics next/soon...

Thanks! bases and faces etc. Sorry for my lack of updates but the Steam summer sale beckoned me into temptation and I accidentally bought Battlebrothers and have been really enjoying it, a mix of a lot of games I've enjoyed. Still, I finished off the 5 other guys for my ABR Inters...

Ta Da!

These guys were done a bit more quickly than the first 'hero' 5 but as I improve with edge highlighting they are looking ok I think..

I like the chunky box mags, it's like a squad all with SAWs...

Pseudo Sargent, for when combat squadded or running them as 2 units of 5...he got another minor injury on his head...

I'm happy with them and even happier to have them off the bench, Yay another unit down....I could easily add 5 into my CRUSADE! roster too..

The whole bunch of them, I'd like to have them running up a flank backed by the ABR Lefty, a Chaplain would make them heinous too as he could give them +1 to wound in shooting (the nearest target)...

I'm going to focus on the Medic next, I think he could get a magnetized head to go with the magnetized mecha-dendrites so he could be used as a normal Medic with helmet and Chief with tentacles and old man head...I'd like to make a start on my Bladeguard with their attendant LT and even the Eradicators might get a seeing too...thanks for looking!

I've been working on my Medic conversion over the last few days.

I decided to magnetize his head as I like both versions..

I managed to sink a magnet into his neck....

That I covered with GS, I (after this pic) built a roll behind his head to help guide the head into the right place...

Both heads sat on magnets, I covered the sides in GS later...

So i can have both versions...

I added a little arm, made from the spare backpack arms, to the mechadendrite hub thing so that when it's sat on the backpack it will be in the right position, I sculpted a bit of cabling to tie them together..

I covered his backpack magnet and added some little flanges...

I GS'd the dendrites into place...

So it all goes together like this, I tidied the arm connection points later...

I also added the syringe and drill bits...

So he can be 'basic' Medic or....

Chief version! Head position not perfect here and I did clean the connections for the drill/syringe...

So he's off to be undercoated now, I'm toying with doing the torso, thighs and upper arms in blue and the extremities and shoulders in white, probably with a red tabard, any thoughts?

Since I had my GS hat on I've been building my Bladeguard, more on that project soon..

Well, traditional Ultramarines is white, with the left-pauldron being blue with a white Upsilon, and the right being the Apothecary symbol in red, on white. Silver details/fittings, no pauldron trim.

However, recent GW schemes have thrown that out, and gone with just a red-on-white right pauldron, and everything else standard Ultramarine, with gold trim.

You're thinking something like this? https://imgur.com/gallery/237ojgU

That's interesting that it's a HH era thing, I didn't know that. I'm still not sure, the (probably) red tabard will change how it looks too. I don't want to get 45% of the way through to want to change it...

Sorry for the late reply too, I wanted to have something to show and I've got these guys done now...

I've built my Bladeguard, woo...this guy was a simple change, just a head swap and slight arm reposition. I'm not a fan of Mk III type helmets they have, Mk III being the most unlovely of the SM armours to my eyes...this helm is off the Primaris UM upgrade sprue..

This dude also got a different head, an old SM from somewhere with a bionic eye as he's a Vet. I tilted him backwards and gave him a 'tactical rock' to stand on to change his posture, too 'closed' otherwise...

This guy got the LT Flat-top head from Dark Millennium and a re-angled arm....

I wanted a squad of 4 and find the Standard bearer to be weird looking and quite expensive (5 PL compared to a squad of 3 BGVs also at 5 PL) so I decided to convert him into the Sarge..

He's standing slightly too forwards so I tilted him backwards a bit, I swapped out the OTT Mk III helm with halo thing for a more sober Mk X one (with skull!), the Neo Volkite arm is the BG LT's obviously but a BG Sarge can equip one too...I chopped the left arm off the tilting plate (the whole arm is attached by the tilting plates peg into that chest hole there) and got rid of the derpy skele hand. The sword blade I replaced it with is from the Black Reach Captain (so 5 editions ago! I never throw any parts away)....

I filled in the gaps in his funny cape/tabard thing...

I built up another tactical rock out of cork...

I got the stowed chainsword from the new Inderptimus Ass Inters sprue and chopped off the pommel, I also dug out a DW Storm Shield TM and chopped off the hand gripping it...it's about the same size and will be facing away from the viewer, I'm not bothered enough to Bitz order one or blag someone into 3D printing it...

Here he is fully assembled, I think it's better this way. I replaced his massive tilting plate that has the super long purity seals with the standard one off the Inters sprue to help differentiate the model from the stock one..the shield is 'mag clamped' to his backpack at a jaunty angle which helps fill in an odd space (in silhouette) under his sword arm that makes him look too thin to me...

I like how they've turned out I look forward to painting them (well I look forward to them being painted which isn't the same thing really) but will start the Medic first, he's sat there undercoated but I don't find myself painting him...soooon...

Nice work on the BGVs. I found it a really fun bunch of models to work with. Both the Indomitus ones and more so the full kit. I need to paint mine, but sooooo much bling and details.

Yes the spectre of painting these guys is stalling me out of painting altogether. I've the Medic I've still not decided on the painting scheme of and then 4 BGV and a BG LT, it's basically like painting 6 Captains in a row.

Then I'll have to do my Captain too. I'm still looking for a few of the new arms to finish (or start) my build on him. I want the pointing Eradicator arm and a reloading Heavy Bolt Rifle arm, the Bitz site sold out in 30 mins when they last restocked them and the eBay guy selling 1 of the arms I want is asking £3.50 for the arm and £3.10 for postage? There is someone selling both parts for a quid or so each but the postage from America is like £12 each!

I will keep my eyes out. School is about to end here so I'll be going away a bunch so production on here will be slowed/stopped....

Hello old friend.

After 9 months I've found the inspiration to start a bit of all this again. The lack of Primaris Lieutenants being released weekly has led to a decrease in interest in my SM. All the new Codices read like Fan Fiction and SM went from maligned for being OP to a pathetic joke in less than a year and the lethality train seems to have no brakes, the Tau and Eldar books are off the scale. 40k seems to be accelerating Codex Creep to unprecedented levels and all of this has dulled my ardour. MLCS, who is my regular opponent, got his new Tau 'dex and, understandably, would like to take it for a test drive. The chance of 'playing a game' enthused me to write a new list and I decided to make my first all Primaris force and the 1k list included my unfinished Medic. So I now find myself feeling like painting again. SM Codex 2.0 is probably 6 months off so I'd like to paint the old hotness before the new hotness obsoletes it.

I'd finished the conversion on my Medic and undercoated it previously. I got stuck trying to decide the paint scheme but I just went for it and put brush to plastic...

This is the 'Chief Apothecary' version of the model, Doctor Octopus, he has 2 mechadendrites peeking round...but I like the alternate head so much I decided to magnetise it (and the dendrites) so it could be swapped over..

Thusly, now he's the standard Medic..I wanted to do a different scheme to just white and settled on the above...Braincj has pointed out this is actually a legion era scheme which is quite nice..

Ink washed...

Base coats reapplied...

I've also built the base detailing into a objective marker, I tried to make it look like a brother buried in the rubble..there is a (bad) Crusade Agenda where a Medic must get to the injured Marine, so this could be used for that too...

It's been really nice to do a bit again so hopefully the mood will stay with me and I can power through my gray pile just in time to get another when the next 'Indomitus' style box comes out...I haven't been totally idle and painted a Samurai for my Dad for Xmas and did a lot of building on my Medieval army and may cover those too...

Moar on this guy soon.

Xenos? In my blog? Never!

I’ve not actually faced the Tau’s new book, but if they are half as bad as people say they are, prepare for a rough fight.

I'll just call up the Commissars.....I know right (Re the T'au), but he's played against enough new SM books. I dread to think what they'll have to do to make SM worth it again, make all their save Invun? Bolters just doing Mortals? Personally I like the idea that SM can only die when it's relevant to the plot. Plot Armour has always been the SMs greatest strength in the fluff so it seems reasonable. After the last books nothing seems hyperbolic anymore. Wooooo balance.

This guy is finished now but here's the next batch of WiP shots....I've started the highlighting in most areas here..

More highlights and I've started filling in the details, lights and the suchlike...

The objective is also getting done...

With the body mostly done (mostly etc) I turned my attention to his heads, cursing my insistence on doing two...the helmet is pretty much done here..

Starting the bare head...Elf Flesh basecoat, Argax and Reikland shading washes, slightly thinned..I've started reapplying thin layers of Elf here...

Pretty much done...you probably need to click through to really see the detail...I've added final highlights of thinned Bleached Bone. The eyes where painted black and I dabbed white either side to create the pupil. The new Primaris heads have very realistic features and, as such, really fething tiny eyes, they're really difficult to get right and it's in the lap of the gods whether I pull it off or not..I added a super thin sheen of old Red Gore to his lip and went back and forth with argax lines in the dark areas and did a super thin Reikland targeted wash when it started looking over highlighted...

Anyway I've added the glamour shots to the gallery and will annotate them when I get the chance, In the next day or two.

Hope you like.

Doctor Octopus reporting for duty!

This is the 'Chief Apothecary' version of this model. I think the alternate paint scheme has come out well and is more interesting than the default...

I did a little heart monitor type thing on his wrist computer, didn't come out perfect really but I did want to stop painting this guy at some point...

I'm pleased with him and it was a nice project to come back to. Even though it was a full-on paint, as it was a single model, it was easier to get through...

This is the other configuration, your basic Medic. The angle of the head is slightly off here and could be further round. He's supposed to look a bit more standard with hentai tentacles removed and the emphasis on the silver rim, looking over the other shoulder puts the gold rim into view more (for the super boss version)...

Obvs as its magnetic, you can position the head anywhere...

Massive pistol, shoulder pad and bare head are from Ultramarine upgrade sprues..

And a bonus objective, it's supposed to look like a brother buried in rubble with some *minor* injuries....I'm sure he'll be fine....

I hope you like him, I impressed myself a tiny bit and it's enthused me to do more, I've started on the other massive log jam of a project, the 5 Bladeguard (inc. LT), which will be a big one. After them I've 6 Gravis dudes of various flavours, 15 Inters (again various) and 2 characters. Oh and 2 Repulsors (both types) but I'd like them to be good before I invest the time to paint them. So no breath held there then.

I hope you like, it was fun to do and nice to enjoy painting again.

Thanks! Sorry it took 3 months to reply! I'm really pleased with him too, came out better than expected (that's what she said).

I've started a tiny bit more painting....I think the rumblings of a IG Codex is beginning to stir my ardour again (and making me want to paint toys) and there's a big SM log jam on my painting table blocking any lasgun based fun.

I did start on these guys after the Medic and then immediately ran out of steam...

Painting all 5 at once would probably send me loopy so I started on the 3 'normal' ones. The other 2 are a Sarge and LT. Seen here after a few ink washes..

This is much later, about where we are now, a lot has been done but because of the level of detail it's slow progress..

They are getting there, I will need to do all the fiddly heraldry bits soon (can't put it off any longer) not entirely sure what to do on them. Can Primaris get Terminator Honours? It's usually my go to for the first company but technically they can't fit in it? There was rumours of Primarisified TDA so maybe in the future (9th Ed 2.0 Codex is supposed to be a thing too)?..

I think I've got the impetus to finish these guys, these 5 dudes are a big old project (as they're all so fancy) and the only 'real' 1st Co. Primaris unit so far, so I feel like I have to do a good job.

Moar soon!

Good to see you painting.

I’ve got a pair of BGVs stalled out on my bench as well. Need to get back to them. If yours are in the way of the Guard, there are 2 classic ways to fix that. FRFSRF or a bayonet charge.

If they earned their TDA honours as firstborn, then crossed the rubicon to primaris, they still should be able to wear them. IMHO.

It's been nice to do a bit actually, with the donkey work done on these guys previously, it means I can just do the rewarding stuff now.

Yeah BGVs are a big time commitment to do justice to all the crap they're covered in.

I may do a few Crux Terminatus, does make sense.

After much thinking I went with a black background on the storm shields...these will get a bit more treatment before being done.

I've got 4 more of these tilting plates to do, answers on a postcard. I went with a simple one here, I like using red as it lifts the model a bit....

My 1st Co. guys tend to get the laurel wreath with the '1' in it as a badge of honour..

This guy is pretty close but I need to come up with some designs for the next two dudes...hope you like him, he's coming together better than expected!

Hi.

I've been slow with these guys again but here's a little update.

I decided to go with the Crux, here's some WiP shots of that..I always build them up in this way..

I've done a few of them by now..

Here I'm adding in the black lines and tidying up in general..

Typically this is a bit out of focus, my new phone is less good at taking detail shots which is a pain in the bum, especially when it's got 4 lenses. Where's the Space Marine lens? I've added in the gem and used a bit of Argax to shade the gold and given it a highlight..

I've actually finished these 3 now and I'll try to get glamour pics soon, I've made a start on the next 2, I'm getting gold trim fatigue back so progress is lowing again! I've also stocked up on Nuln Oil, Reikland Fleshshade and Argax as I heard the 'New Formula' versions soon available are a fair bit worse and 18ml for the same cost as the 24ml ones, YAY progress.

Here's the Sarge and LT basecoated, these guys are next.

Thanks dude. The crippling hot weather here has given me a bit more time to do bit of the old painting, here are the finished pics of the 3 completed dudes:

First dude has the Dark Millennium LT head. I also painted the blue in a different way. I started with the medic but there was no dry brushing like I normally do. Just a lighter base coat then 2-3 layers of highlight. I used Dark Templar Contrast to add shading. It's quicker and gives a more modern finish perhaps. I haven't tried it on a predominantly blue dude (like and Intercessor) but I think I will next. Hopefully not creating such a different look I have to start a 3rd Marine army.

My unofficial 1st Company logo...

I wanted to have a bit of red on his tilting plate to help lift the colours up a bit...

This dude had his standard helmet replaced with one from the UM upgrade sprue, I find Mk III helms (which they BG are basically wearing) to be my least favourite..

Termie Hons...

1st Co logo again..

Last guy so far, rocking an old SM head, on reflection it does look a bit small compared to the new ones...

Showing off he made it to the big leagues..

I'm happy with these guys so far and have been plugging away at the next 2 as well...

Thusly. Summer is creeping up on me which generally means hardly any painting as I'm back to full time dad and away a fair bit, I hope to finish these lads before the shut down, we'll see...I'm chuffed with these guys so far and look forward to seeing the whole squad. I think I'll do the Eradicators next, I want to power through as much of the SM backlog as possible before the IG release and the next load of SM (probably early next year). Be nice to be painting the new hotness whilst it's still hot for once.
