I actually feel sorry for GW here, they’ve stuck to the concept, they've maintained consistency in design, the models are really close to the current ones and they've been dumped on within a lot of circles due to the helms like it was some hideous new idea.

By reputation, reddit losing the plot over something minor is par for the course.

If you're happy about plastic Reapers, then I'm happy for you, honestly. From my perspective, though, v4 of an Aspect should have been a lower priority than a v2 (Spiders or Spears) or v3 (Hawks - given the wings, they'd really benefit from being plastic).

Thinking back on it, that applies to the Banshees as much as the Reapers. In both cases, it is good to see them move into plastic, but IMO other Aspects should've been a higher priority.

Potato-cam does tell us that v2 of Spears are happening, at least. It'll be interesting to see, when we can see them more clearly, which Jetbike kit they use as a base - if they are on the standard Windrider (with some alternative parts for Aspect controls and/or decoration), then I'll be even more mystified that they weren't released when the Jetbikes were redone.

Yeah the advent leaks (who predicted the contents of Eldritch Omens) said we'd get Spiders, Hawks, and Baharroth. That would put the Eldar release on at least 13 new kits.

Yeah, the Advent rumours/leaks have been pretty spot on so far, and they also mentioned Baharroth, Swooping Hawks and Warp Spiders to get an update. I think that would just leaves Fire Dragons, Striking Scorpions and a slew of special characters in finecast that we haven't heard anything about so far from a reliable source?

Dysartes wrote:Potato-cam does tell us that v2 of Spears are happening, at least. Considering the placements of the fins and intake on the new Spears I very much doubt they have anything in common with the Windriders. Especially considering how packed the sprues of the current Windriders already are and how little you'd be able to re-use of it; looks like at best the legs, engine nozzle, canopy and shuriken catapults.
If anything, the new Spears are closer to the new Shroud Runners, so that might be a dual kit or they might share a common base sprue.

Personally I'm hoping the new Spears kit comes with bits to make an Autarch Skyrunner, so we can retire the chopper jetbikes altogether and have army wide crotch rockets .

So long as the Spiders get seen to this year, and finally given a Phoenix Lord, then I don't mind the order in which this new Eldar roll out happens.

For me I'm pretty much done as I get to replace my old Craftworld from years ago, which was basically Ulthwe with Warlocks, Black Guardians, Banshees and Reapers. I was definitely lucky in how its happened.

That said, I'd love to get my mits on some new Warp Spiders as they remind me of an old episode of Sol Bianca, where space pirates use backpacks to zip through walls. While not going to be part of my new craftworld collection, I'm raring to have some for Stargrave and 5 Parsecs for some heist tomfoolery!

Why would anyone be elated by that? Why would I be happy that they made something I don't like just because it's plastic? Why should I be happy about models I don't like whatever they're made out of? That makes no sense. But no, it's not just you. There are probably many people who have the reaction NEW PRODUCT MUST CONSUME.

Personally I am happy to get these in plastic because:
1. The detail otherwise looks great and better than on the old models. I am extremely impressed with the more recent Banshee models and how crisp and fine the detail is in plastic and I expect these will be the same.
2. These are not finecast - working on some Hawks currently in that material and frankly it totally sucks - pinholes, warped parts etc.
3. They will scale better with the current line of GW miniatures; the old ones are kinda small at this point and proportions not holding up
4. Being plastic, modifying the mask to taste will be much easier as will just replacing it or using the alternate no helmet head. Again, this is just my opinion, but looking at all of the Reaper sculpts over time the head/mask has never been a strong point. Thankfully these will be super easy to change.
5. No one is saying you have to be happy with these at least that I have seen - there are just folks that are happy. I know being happy about something GW does on this forum is rare and upsetting to some but there it is....

Okay, fair enough. I suppose it actually does make some kind of sense that a new plastic model I don't like would be slightly better than a metal or finecast model I also don't like, because it will scale better with new stuff and by easier to fix the problems with it. I guess I was thinking more if you didn't like these, but you liked the old versions. I, for example, will just keep using the metal dark reapers I already have. There's nothing about these that would make me want to "upgrade".

I just found it odd, the attitude that you should be happy about them even if you don't like them, just because they are new and they are plastic. That's ridiculous. But the whole idea of trying to convince someone to be happy about something they don't like, or convince someone they should dislike a sculpt they like, is pretty pointless, but seems to fill up pages and pages. I'm not sure how you could have missed it.

I'd be happy for them in plastic even if I don't like them because

1) It shows GW isn't abandoning them as an army/option within the army

2) Its a nicer material than finecast and since they are so similar in style* that my feelings for both are about the same. So even if you don't like the new or the original at least its plastic so building and using them isn't as huge a problem

In the end every army has models you might dislike or not like as much or might want different ones of. It's rare for a whole army to be perfection for someone.
So you either ignore those units (build around other themes); use them in a limited form; use 3rd party; convert etc... There's a lot of options if you don't like a model to still work with it and to still be pleased that the model is within the army. That its been updated and those who do like and do want to use them can use them.

No?

I’m going in with an open mind, and willing to be converted. Good models and good rules can go a long way. But I’m a craftworld player. Corsairs, by definition, are not really part of that.

And with my wallet already begging for mercy, I might be able to resist.

Maybe…

Looking forward to seeing them, glad that they will exist for those who crave them, but not personally excited.
