Guys I just recieved my copy of Infinity....OH MY GOD!!!! Its amazing, at $40 / £20, for a hard back book, full colour, and enough pages to cause some serious hurt if it fell off the table and landed on your foot! The content is second to none, this stuff blows WH40K out of the water ( IMHO ) with background histories and army details that leave you feeling as though you been spoken to as an adult by an adult! Each army has something to appeal to most players.....and did I mention full colour, cause if I didn't, here it is...FULL COLOUR BABY! In my collection I have the Rackham Confrontation, WH40K ( hardback ) and now Infinity, and Infinity wins. Guys, stop complaining about WH40k, its over, go out a buy this book, check out the minis.....( look out for the Bhodisattvas sorry about the spelling ) Incidently the minis are more expensive per figure than GW, but they are light years better in quality, and you need far fewer to actually play a meaningful game.

It's also supposed to use a lot of buildings for cover and maneuver.
Figs look awesome. They're a bit pricey, though.

Does anyone know where this book can be ordered in the UK?
Ordering direct from the Corvus Belli site is very expensive in postage.

Well, I'm based in the UK, I bought my copy from these guys! They offer free postage in the UK and serious discounts! www.arcaneminiatures.co.uk These guys also carry the miniatures at a discounted price....and they allow you to pay via Paypal, which gives you a measure of security!! Enjoy!

When you get the rulebook you'll realise theres still more miniatures to be made, they haven't even started with the Mercs yet, or AI Avatars and Resurrection figures....
The last nail in the GW coffin if you ask me!

Iirc weetoysoldiers has done a review on the Infinity ruleset as well as some excellent scale comparisons of their minis.

Having played this game a bit I'll tell you one thing; it's not a wargame. It's a skirmish game. Think Necromunda.
Over 500pts it starts to get topheavy with the rules. You'll need to make a table of scenery that is fairly low to the ground (or snipers with AD and TOCA win..) and appropriately dense (no more than 18" long corridors and no scenery more than 10" apart).
Nice skirmish game, but the game needs...
1) Missions: There's no real format to play within apart from 'Take a 4x4' table and fight'. 2) Campaign Rules: Something akin to Necro or DOW. 3) More Combine models for me to buy.

How tall do you recommend buildings to be?

We've settled on urban sprawl. Large buildings are about shoebox size and roughly 9 inches tall (and closed). Smaller 1 story buildings are maybe three inches tall and about the size of a small packing box (like the ones the Infinity stuff comes in, or a Warmachine Unit box).
Too tall and you give too choice of a field of fire (and a ton of AROs). With the amount of buildings and alleyways it almost looks like a Spacehulk table but with buildings repacing the workings of the spaceship.
We've also started looking at contemporary car kits and some appropriate scaled Anime vehicles to put in the streets. Think of this like the miniature version of Gears of War. Out of cover = dead.

See, while you're right in so much as its a skirmish game, I still feel it is a fresh alternative to WH40K.....but, you know, horses for courses. Looking at this section of the forum all i see is bellyaching over WH40K rules, pricing, quality of sculpts and finish, scaling etc...so, I feel this could definately provide a bridge to a viable alternative to being trapped by the GW machine.
Vote with your feet, who knows where Infinity could go with the same support that GW has recieved over the years, and who knows what GW will be forced to do should they lose sales left, right and centre!

uh no i play classic battle tech (since 87) as well as 40K. its a great game, it has a solid rule set, great minis, its cheep to get into ($50 and your entire army is on the table), lots of variety, its well balanced, you can do campaign games and mega battles and the 3rd ed rulebook(total warfare) is also in full color with an efficient index.

Talking about Classic Battletech, are the original first edition models still used (the Griffin, Battlemaster etc.) ?
I have a pile of them I would like to make good use of.

I have a pile of them I would like to make good use of. thats a most definate yes! unlike 40K you can legally play any era of CBT and the mechs and units never get removed I.E.ravenwing attack bike squadrons, because of a rules change. in fact depending on the era and faction you choose you could do different wepons loadouts on your battlemaster. if your looking to play the game again other than picking up total warfare i suggest buying the new version of heavy metal pro (6) software when it comes out. so your controll sheets for all mechs and vehicles are only a printout away.

Speaking of Battletech, the guys I game with are going to be re-starting it soon, mostly because we were talking about how we don't need / can't afford to start a new game, but we have all these old mechs sitting around ... I've never heard of heavy metal pro, I'll have to look into it rather than dropping the $$$ and time hunting down copies of the read-out books.

Sounds like a good game but its light years away from getting gw to lower prices. I have yet to see the models but saying they look better than confrontation models means thay have to be impressive. i do tire of gws "games" and price hikes. And also there boxing makes the game even more expensive so i do hope the gw monopoly will come to an end. But and IF this is the game they have alot of work to do as far as support and advertiseing. After takeing a gander the models are nice. And lets not forget how confronatation started as a skirmish game and went from there. So ill have to at least try it out. The Pan ocieana, nomads and Yu jing look sweet. Heck they all do.
