Not necessarily... There are some games out there where you can multibase minis because the rules dont take into account individual minis... *Coughs*Kings of War*Coughs*

Because I wanted to buy one and replace some minis with wfb ones but then I saw it in RL. It turns out that I only want sumoneer and tzaangors, it so much reeks of AoS. I don't like the heroes except the barbarian a bit maybe, hipster dwarf is worst but all are busy and weird. Ogroid Thaumaturge looks like something straight from Warcraft etc.
Not buying.

I wanted to buy a thing, and then looked at it and decided not to buy it after all because I didn't like all of the things that were part of the thing because those things reminded me too much of a newer thing that they're part of but I don't like that new thing. Cool story, bro.

Thanks, I'm cool by nature. That's probably why I can't stand AoS btw.

Um, yes, sure thing. Not liking a game makes you a cool guy. Becauise that counts for anything.

The funny thing is that aside from the Sigmarine, the Aesthetic of WQST has incredibly strong visual and design ties with earlier versions of WHFB, particularly 3rd edition and (obviously, particularly) Realm of Chaos. My interest in WHFB waned over the years as it turned into HeroHammer and the background became much more PG-friendly and, well, heroic with big swords and bigger hats. Bretonnia as a hedonistic kingdom with dirty, diseased peasants and corruption just below the surface became a PG-rated Happy Honorable Arthurian Land. The Empire had a withered Emperor on the throne, at the mercy of advisors and political intrigue, rather than superrman on a grifffon with a big hammer.

So the return of Tzaangor, cultist marauders, chaos familiars, even the twisted goblins.. yeah, those are very much Warhammer.

No, I'm cool and that makes me not like AoS. You got it backwards

Yes wfb was getting progressively more pg friendly but AoS is even more. Yes they are reusing old ideas but that's because they are creatively weak atm. I mean don't get me wrong, I love genestealer cult return and can't wait for what's next for 40k, long live GW and all but familar and tzaangors don't make AoS into oldhammer or make up for fat guys in golden lycra sigmarines, christmas tree busy Archaon, power armoured dragons, LEGO horse dracoth, hipster dwarves or comical varanguard. There's no equivalent of old Brettonia in AoS either.

You say it has strong visual ties with old whfb, I say it has strong visual ties with Warcraft and the rest of Blizzard crap.

Yes it was a nicer, more cartoonish and comicbooky take on Warhammer, an inferior ripoff. GW ripping off its own, much worse ripoff is quite bad imo.

But they don't exist in isolation those things, do they. In the WHF case they're part of the whole setting, it's that context which helped make them appealing in the first place; they were the bizarre, colourful, magical contrast with the grimy, grim, violent reality of the more "mundane" aspects of the world drawn from history or less psychedelic folklore. In the AoS case there is no real contrast, everything's shiny supermen and magical acid trips turned up to eleven and fire-dwarfs riding giant salamanders injecting metal into their skin *guitar solo*; there's no grit there to make Tzaangors or spider-gobbos stand out.

And while WHF, like 40K, has undergone something of a tonal shift in recent years, at least in terms of the "front facing" armybook fluff, you can't really see the largely superficial changes to a few WHF factions and a move to implied rather than explicit dark adult stuff as being equivalent to the total setting reboot with fundamental(almost genre-shifting in fact) tonal shift between WHF and AoS - WHF-to-AoS is everything you disliked about the Bretonnia change but bigger, bolder, and applied to everything.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?

well, i am certainly looking forward to seeing what happens with the upcoming tree spirit army...
i love the look of nearly all of the new AoS models...

the new Orc Warboss is incredible, the Runemaster is probably my favorite Dwarf model to be released in years, and the Khorne Lord in the starter set has the best Fleshhound GW has ever done...
i have not been this excited for Fantasy models in years...

Silver Tower has made me even more excited for the future of AoS minis...
the scale creep has brought the character models up to being just the right size for the perfect painting canvas, and the way that the studio are designing and cutting the plastics has opened up a whole new era in poses and details...
if the Mistweaver is any indication of what we can look forward to for a future Elf release, i will finally paint up some pointy ears...

i've never played Warcraft, and don't know anything about it, but i am stoked with with the direction that things are going...
the new aesthetic, and round bases, really make me want to paint up some Fantasy dudes...
i always have preferred the look of round bases

bring on the angry trees!!!

cheers
jah

NEWS

Talked to my FLGS who spoke to the GW Rep.

FLGS can be in the campaign to "shape the world of AOS"

Our local one is. There will be missions to play, in a way like a league but every victory you get, the store gives you a card and a special code where you enter it on the gw site and paste your battle report. Who won, factions, etc

The book with points comes out July 21st. Stores who are participating gets a store copy 3 weeks early. Our store was told we would have it July 1st, and that anyone playing in the campaign thing can use it of course to build armies.

I'm absolutely cool with that. Can the next GW game set in the Fantasy/AoS world have it's own thread please though rather than being shoved into the wider AoS thread? WQST is no more AoS then D:O or Lost Patrol are 40k. Sure, there's overlap for both, but they're their own things, and the 40k spinoff games all have their own threads...

On topic if you ask me heh.

But yeah sorry for stirring the pot guys. I really wanted to say "hipster dwarf" no matter the context heh.

The positive bottom line imo is that I wanted to buy Silver Tower at first despite Knightor Questor Stormcastor inside, not really that much of a hater maybe when I'm ready to buy AoS related products and it's obvious that I'm trying to make peace with it. It's just that the style is really not for me and I doubt I can ever get over that, I mean seeing unpainted plastic GW models in person I usually warm up to them after the pictures with GW studio paintjobs, not this time though.

So yeah bring on the hipster wood elves and stay tuned for my comments on them.

That's good news I play in a GW store and it looks like they thought of a way to get the independents involved as well. I assume they are doing the code system to prevent any skewing of results.

Wasn't Silver Tower not given its own separate thread and therefore it's included here in this AoS thread for discussion?

If it had been at the time there would have been less cross conversation between what are obviously 2 distinct games; obviously the reaction to Silver Tower was much more positive than what AoS was receiving and provided it with a bit of a boost when it was released but including the two in the same thread has just broadened the scope of the conversation.

Anybody know if the Muster picture of the Minotaur is indicative of a new release for Beastmen??

The minotaur art is from an existing piece of art from the Godbeasts book featuring minotaurs, so I highly doubt it.

It may not have had its own thread regarding News and Rumors, but this isn't supposed to be the place for discussion.

I'm hoping the worldwide campaign is fun and influential. I haven't been in one since the Storm of Chaos, and while that fun, the Chaos forces were completely ineffective. They were forced to ret-con that out of existence because otherwise, Archaon would have turned into a spawn for his epic failure.

The guys at the GW I play at are working on a huge themed table about the realm of Ghyran as the campaign would be, in their words, based about the Nurgle invasion of the realm of Life. I don't know if specific shops have specific themes, but I'm quite hyped by that. Tomorrow will try to take a peek at the table. In the shop owner's words, the rulebook with the point costs and campaign rules will be released halfway through the campaign, thus in the last week of July.

So the "Muster" thing is just a global campaign, correct? And presumably new armies and such.

Well I guess this is the right place for this question. There was an alleged GW release schedule posted last week that mentioned "AoS Death" in autumn. Some people mentioned this possibly meaning a Death expansion for Silver Tower. Any possibility of this being new models for the Death Grand Alliance?

I think the point being that it really should have been given its own separate News and Rumour thread and really should have one in the News & Rumours section for future releases. That link is simply for discussing pros and cons of buying the contents of the boxset over discussions about expansions and future Silver Tower related releases
