Getting my broom incase there is shenanigans.

I was asked to post my list, so here it goes:

<strong style="">Elites [/b]

5 Striking Scorpions
1 Exarch w/Scorpions Claw

  4 Harlequins w/Kiss
1 Shadowseer w/Kiss
1 Troup Leader w/Power Weapon

<strong style="">Troops [/b]

10 Guardians w/Brightlance
10 Guardians w/Brightlance
10 Guardians w/Brightlance

8 Dire Avengers
1 Exarch w/ 2 Avenger Catapults and Bladestorm

<strong style="">Heavy Support [/b]

Falcon w/Starcannon and Shuriken Cannon, Holo-Field and Spirit Stones
Falcon w/Starcannon and Shuriken Cannon, Holo-Field and Spirit Stones

  4 Dark Reapers
1 Exarch w/Fast Shot

I ended up 4-0-1, and in game #5 I was on table #2 and scored a minor win. I took pictures of every turn of the GT, and I will think about doing a batrep.

  <strong style="">Commentary on the list: [/b]
The Harlequins where a big waste of points. Except in the game against Kesher, they did nearly nothing. When they went against marines they would kill a few with rending (3-4) and then the marines would then do about the same back to the Harlies. Not to mention the beat down that the Dark Eldar Wyches put on them when they hit my lines.

Best unit goes to the Dark Reapers. The combination of being able to be re-deployed by Eldrad, then Guided/Fortuned and made fearless by the Avatar was very good.

And if anyone is wondering, over the weekend I lost 5 Falcons

Y'know, I can totally see how Eldrad's redeployment power can make Dark Reapers into a much more potent unit. Definitely something to think about.

As for the Harlequins, don't go blaming them for your inability to roll sixes!

But seriously, the problem isn't with the Harlequins but with the small unit size. Neither Banshees or Scorpions are going to fair any better against the big units you were telling me about. The fact is, Harlequins aren't an uber-unit that can take on anything no matter it's size or strength. You still have to be selective about who and what you charge.

Getting my broom incase there is shenanigans.

Well, do to the nature of my army, (a some-what static shooting army) I needed some good counter assault.

The first incarnation of my army for Heavy Support I took 2 Fire Prisms and 1 Falcon to carry a squad of 6 Banshees. But I was really under whelmed by the performance of them. They looked really good on paper since they have the Banshee Mask, they go before even Harlequins, Genestealers, and a lot of the other nasty assault units out there. But with that strength of 3, they just could not beat their way out of a wet paper bag.

Then I stumbled upon Scorpions. With the shear number of strength 4 attacks, they not only did a good job against horde armies, but they killed marines as well. Add to that the Scorpions Claw, and I was sold on them. Not only can they dish it out, but a big factor with them is that they can take punishment in return.

I added the second Falcon and the Dark Reapers the Week before the GT. I just loved the Dark Reapers ability to shoot 48? that a lot of my army was missing, and nothing kills Marines like them. The second Falcon was also added since I was dropping one Fire Prism, there was no point in taking just a single one. Not only that, but if I was able to be out-shot, I wanted to try to get close to my opponent, and try to drop 2 assault squads on them.

So the question came up: What squad to take in it? Well, the Harlequin idea came about through peer pressure, and this board raving about them. I have never liked taking Harlies before because they seemed rather fragile for such and expensive unit. And as Yakface knows from our Adepticon Team Tournament genestealer experience, I can?t roll ?6?s.

So here are the problems I had with Harlequins:
#1. What often happened was that my Harlequins ended up assaulting large squads, and they killed a few and then they were crippled buy just the few attacks back. They only time they ended up doing well was against some small squads that I was able to nearly wipe out when they assaulted, limited the return damage.

#2. I was never able to leap out of combat after the initial assault, because then my opponent would just rapid fire them to death. So I was stuck in for 2 rounds of combat. On my opponents turn I was counter-charged, and harlequins lose a lot of momentum without the added attacks on the charge, and striking only with strength 3. With one exception, they were always wiped out.

#3. I have fought the foot slogging Harlequins before, and they always get shot to pieces before they can even reach me. Any semi-fast unit that can fire a lot of shots will tear them to pieces. From a Marine squad with a Rhino to drive up and rapid fire, to Land Speeders and Vypers, to just units like Dire Avengers to move forward and wipe them out.

So then the question is, if footslogging Harlequins get shot to pieces, and 6 in a falcon are not enough to do much damage, then how do you use them effectively?

Do you need to take 3 falcons all with 18 Harlies, or 30 footsloggers?

PS. I am posting this in tactics to see what everyone come up with on how to use them.

I like the list....I was planning on taking 2 reaper units with eldrad, and then moving them with his power.

I was also planning Banshees with an executioner on the Exarch.....Str 5 going first.....

Interesting list.

What would you do against a all mechanized army? I noticed you have 3 bright lances but barely anything else to take on AV 13+.

On another note. Was the tournament organized where the winners play on the lower numbered tables? When I was there it seemed the players who ranked lower were on the higher number tables.

Nice result !!

Please do a Batrep...

IB was there, planned to play in the tourney but got talked out of it by wife...

The top battle scores where on the top tables. I scored perhaps the second highest battle score, but painting had several guys leap over me. I think I finished around #5 with 157 total points. I know second place had 161.

Against vehicles I had:
2 Falcons with 4 Pulse Lasers
1 Eldar Exarch w/Missile Launcher
3 Bright Lances
Avatar w/Wailing Doom

How much more anti-tank do you want from and eldar list?

You also had rending harlies

I took 6 harlies also. They are pretty hit and miss. They were key in 2 of the games I won (took out a librarian+ 4 termies in one game, and a wraithlord that was pounding my Avatar in another) where scorps or banshees would both have failed to help.
